...The Process of Water Sustainability Looking down on this planet from an outsiders perspective, it would be appear that Earth is composed mostly of land. However through years of research scientists have discovered that Earth is actually primarily made up of water. Approximately seventy one percent of the surface is covered by water, with only three percent of this being fresh water. This small percentage is primarily seen on the surface in snow banks and ice caps. While water has primarily been viewed as a definitive renewable resource for much of human history this new understanding that roughly one percent of the total water on all of planet Earth is both accessible and fresh usable water. One would think that because water is such a vital resource that almost all of the life on Earth depends on; more people would be aware of how it is used and recognize there is not an unlimited supply. However, like other natural resources, it is becoming a precious commodity that is being abused and over used. Thomas Fuller once pointed out, "we never know the worth of water till the well is dry," perfectly describing the current water crisis. With the rapid growth of populations combined with the nonchalant mindsets of many individuals, an even greater problem is stemming from the distribution of water amongst the planets ever expanding populations. If the problems from harmful pollutants, limited education and general misuse of the global water system continues to be neglected and overlooked...

...Sustainability Related to New Water Technologies Name Class Institution Date Earth has provided us with various fossil fuels and natural resources that we need to live an adequate life. However, as fossil fuels dwindle and the human population continues to grow, the livelihood of humanity is threatened. Furthermore, the use of fossil fuels has several negative impacts on society. For example, fossil fuels pose a serious danger to the environmental through climate changes and global warming. Additionally, as fossil fuels become more scarce the prices will significantly increase. One way to alleviate the negative impacts of fossil fuels is by investing research and development into sustainability. Sustainability refers to the use of renewable energy resources to sustain the current processes of society and the economy. Sustainability also encompasses the idea that any developments should meet the requirements of the current society without affecting the capability of future generations to meet their requirements. As water supply systems continue to dwindle, new sustainability technologies have emerged that will allow society to overcome the challenges of scarce clean and fresh water. There are several ways in which to define sustainability. In essence, sustainability refers to our ability to sustain our current needs without negatively impacting future generation’s ability to meet their needs. However,...

...Value of Sustainability Coca-Cola’s Mission statement is “to refresh the world in mind, body and spirit, to inspire moments of optimism and happiness, to create value and make a difference.” This statement is very broad and only addresses general differences that they want to make in the world. Their vision for the company, on the other hand, addresses the planet, stating the company will “be a responsible citizen that makes a difference by helping build and support sustainable communities.” Their sustainability report discusses their main framework called “Me, We, World” and the advancements they have made in these areas. They show their many goals for themselves, for the people of the world, and for sustaining the world. Their goals for sustainability in the report include improving water efficiency as well as recycling and treating water. Although Coca-Cola is very big on sustainability now and has been for the past few years, Coca-Cola has not been without some issues with sustainability. In 2008, Coca-Cola through the actions of its subsidiary, Industria Nacional de Gaseosas, was fined $110,000 for dumping its industrial waste in Columbia’s sewage system. Coca-Cola has also been fined and punished in India for excessive water use and toxic pollution; they were forced to close down a bottling factory. Despite all these previous issues, Coca-Cola has been more active in sustainability efforts. The Chairman and CEO, Muhtar Kent, penned a letter on the topic of Coca-Cola...

At the present time, it is an important topic, as it is being realizing by the people that individuals and businesses have full impact on the environment. Environment sustainability is related closely with making responsible decisions that are objected towards minimizing the negative impact of business on environment. It is not just about reducing the amount of produced waste and use of less energy, but is also associated with processes being developed which will lead to business in the future (Esty et al.,2005). In the present situation, the concerned group claims that these materials are causing an environmental hazard that is seeping from a local landfill into a nearby stream. An environmental group, SafePack Materials Pollute, has sprung up and has launched an Internet campaign geared toward compelling fruit producers to stop purchasing our packing materials. The situation at hand raises environmental issues that relate to the Clean Water Act and the Solid Waste Disposal Act. The Clean Water Act develops the basic structure to regulate discharge of pollutants into the waters of United States and regulating quality standards for surface water. These environmental impacts are not always as positive as economical one. It is important for hotels to help their communities by reducing their carbon footprint. It is for this reason, that many hotel chains have created environmental sustainability strategies. In this essay, I will briefly discuss agenda 21, and other sustainable management initiatives. ...Assessment 1 Develop workplace sustainability Questions What are the sustainability issues? Unsustainable activities have led to changes in our environment, or have been identified as having the potential to lead to future changes. The types of changes that are occurring or are predicted to occur form the key issues for sustainability. The following Table 1 provides a summary of the key issues. They are related to changes to the physical and cultural (being the way we live) environments, which in turn relate to the economic environment. What does sustainability mean? Every day we hear the term ‘sustainable’ or ‘sustainability’ being used to describe a large number of issues and news items. There is the ‘sustainable economy’, ‘sustainable agriculture’, ‘economically sustainable’, ‘the need to be sustainable’, ‘sustainable work practices’ and ‘sustainable water supply’ to name a few. The Brundtland Report, Our Common Future, is seen by many as one of the first global reports to address sustainable development. This report defined sustainable development as: “…development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Brundtland (1987) National strategy for ecologically sustainable development Sustainable Development is defined by the Australian Government’s National Strategy for Ecologically Sustainable Development as: “…using, conserving and enhancing the community’s resources...
