...The Way Children Learn The upbringing of a child is a complicated process and as the parent you need to find the right methods of dealing with a child in order to develop a good personality, and not to harm the growing person. However, many people argue the many methods out there of teaching and upbringing. Which method is more effective and should be used in your practice? For most people, they feel that a child learns best by copying the behavior of adults. Children start to learn the day of their birth and their teachers are their parents. Parents show their children how to behave, listen, eat, play, talk, and walk and so on. The parent shapes the child’s behavior, thinking and opinions. As the child, they look to their parents and observe them doing things like helping them cook, clean, etc. This helps them to learn. Actions like this are argued to be the best ways for the child to learn. Nevertheless, a child observing their parents also has some disadvantages. Children are like sponges, soaking up everything. They not only mimic the good behavior, but they also pick up the bad. Looking at it from this perspective makes this method harmful and possibly damaging. The children can copy bad habits such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or become argumentative by watching conflicts between two parents. Seeing these behaviors can cause the child to repeat the process when they become adults. Many parents try to keep their children out of conflicts, but the child is still...

...Different Ways Elementary Children Learn.docx Different Ways Elementary Children Learn Elementary school students obtain information in many different ways. There is not a right or a wrong way to learn, just different methods that work in a unique way for each person. The basic strategy to better learning is to assess each method and consider which style will work for each student and help them improve their own individual study habits. During the elementary school years a child’s critical thinking becomes more complex and advanced. They begin to absorb logical reasoning, and they are able to concentrate on more than one part of a concept or a situation at the same time. Teachers can help students become mindful of their own learning style by presenting different lessons using processes that can reach any kind of learner. There are many different learning styles but some of the most common learning styles can be categorized into three groups: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Visual learners need to have a clear, definable picture in their mind to understand the material. They process new information by seeing either by reading, looking at graphics, or watching a demonstration. While visual learners can usually grasp information shown in a chart or a graph, they sometimes grow impatient while listening to an explanation (Graham, 2008). Auditory style of learning is the ability to learn by hearing...

...Ford raps the competition with a surprising customer experience by Kevin Stirtz on September 2, 2009 A powerful way to increase customer loyalty is to give your customers a positive and memorable experience. Some days it’s easy. Just be nice, attentive, listen well and be helpful. But other times you might break out of your comfort zone and give your customers something they’ve never seen before. This Ford dealer clearly went beyond the usual and expected when they decided to treat their customers to the “A-B-C’s of the Ford Focus”. It’s not something every business would do. And it might even annoy some customers. But you have to give them credit for trying. What could you and your team do to offer a better, more memorable experience? I’m not suggesting you sing to your customers but there are ways to make their experience better. If you’re unsure, observe what other companies do – both in and out of your industry. ...Do you think that the best way to learn a language is to study abroad? Nowadays, many people feel a deep need to learn English with more globalization; for example, some Japanese companies made English the official language. In other cases, some companies require a certain level of TOEIC scores for promotions. Though all of us strongly feel that we want to improve our English skill, most of us are struggling with it. I think one of the reasons is we don’t have much opportunity to use English in our daily life, so we feel awkward when we use it with someone. However, using the target language as frequently as possible is essential to master it. Once I learned German when I was a university student, I experienced the same. I took one-on-one lesson with a native teacher once or twice a week at a language school. After six months I finished the basic course, so I planned to go to another branch school in Germany. However, my first trip to abroad was full of troubles; airplane delay, missing a chance to my host parents at the airport, and getting panics with no idea how to use pay phones. I totally lost confidence with my German because though I studied so hard, no one word or...

...Homer wrote about the Odyssey around 850BC and I think it reflected the society of that time greatly. I think the biggest idea of The Odyssey was the suffering. Since in Book 19 page 403, it revealed that “let his name be Odysseus… the Son of Pain, a name he’ll earn in full.” We could tell that throughout the whole book, the ultimate purpose of Odysseus’s adventure and suffering was to return home. He endured so much pain which lived up to his name and matured through all that he overcame. So that through suffering, he became the hero the ancient Greek admired and advocated, but he still remained a flawed being. The principle thing Odysseus learned was that God can control fate and he was destined to go home. In book 12, Odysseus’s crewman ate the cattle which disobeyed his orders of not eating the cattle while he went off to pray. They later died of eating the Sungod’s finest cattle since the crewmen at the same time disobeyed god. (Page 281-282) And what was interesting was that God put Odysseus to sleep while the crewmen ate the cattle. So God gave the people free will to decide what to do, but at the same time let it happen while Odysseus could have saved them. So I may say that the God made the crewmen die. The end of the book was the most amazing part to me. When Odysseus and the avengers for suitors were fighting, they only stopped fighting because the Gods would be angry. They were not actually in peace but pretended to be in order not to enrage Gods. I think...

...hire employees to make his department like a business. Then he created the piece-work program, which incentives employees with more freedom. The program, however, faces a serious obstacle concerning the difference of two types of employees-the clock-punches and the go-getters-. In this process, Soderbey discovered that discipline could not motivate the employees and improve production, while he wanted to get more from employees. Money is the central factor to incentive the employees. So he created the Shared Savings Program having nine primary features. Briefly to say, “ Do not give them more money on a silver platter and they have to have a vested interest.” Luckily, Donato, city manager, regarded the Shared Saving Program as an effective way to survive financially and do the kinds of things socially and physically for our community. At the same time, Donato mitigated the risk that the program might be seen as giveaway of public funds to response the argument about the program. Obviously, the implement is difficult because many employees did not trust Soderbery’s management. Moreover, there existed the tension between Shared Savings members and...

...Experience Paper People learn things in many different ways. Some people learn easy and some people learn in hard ways. The thing is that anyone can learn something. I will share an experience that I learned while I was growing up. My Learning Experience I was young when my father taught me to hunt. I really liked hunting because you had to be quite and still to see something to shoot. My father taught me by classical conditioning. I learned to hunt by doing it over and over. Hunting is a skill that has to be learned by making mistakes and learning how to do it better when you make a mistake. I learned by conditioning myself to do the same thing over and over to get a kill. Classical Conditioning Classical Conditioning is a process by which we learn to associate stimuli and, consequently, to anticipate events. This type of learning is the most common type of learning for some people and dogs. The way you learn this way is being able to associate something like a click with good behavior in dogs. The dog does something good then you click a button and then the dog associates the good behavior with the button click. Some people learn this way also. (Spielman, Dumpter, Jenkins, Lacombe, & Lovett, 2014). Operant Conditioning Operant Conditioning is when a person learns to associate a behavior and its consequence. This type of learning can consist of a reward/punishment method. This is the most preferred method for people to learn today. This method is the...

...MSL 1020 | Learning Preferences | What is my learning style? | | | | Learning Preferences Learning is something that I was always taught to be essential to become successful in life. My learning preference is multimodal, which means having several different ways of learning. People who have the same learning preference as me might take longer gathering information, but as a result we often have a deeper and broader understanding. I am a horrible procrastinator but this is because I take longer to make decisions and studies show that this might be better because of breadth. I learn easily by looking at pictures, listening to music and seeing examples of what I am being taught otherwise is hard for me to just hear a professor or anybody just talk and not show examples. When I first came to this country I had to take ESL classes in order to be able to take other courses, these classes helped me with my learning style since I had to look at a lot of pictures to learn what it meant in English. I had to confront my fair of speaking a foreign language. When I am in my classes I barely pay attention if they are not pictures of what I am being taught except if is math or ITEC but other than that I feel like there is no eye entertainment in the classes that can influence me into learning the subject. It might sound as a bad idea to listen to music while studying or doing homework but it actually helps me a lot while for others is disturbing. Though I rather listen...

...People are different and therefore do things differently, such as how they learn. How does one assimilate information the best? In this paper, this writer will discuss how to figure out a person’s learning style, different styles of learning, and how to accommodate the different learning styles. By understanding one’s individual learning styles, people can change the way that they teach and study in order to increase the knowledge that is retained. How to Determine Learning Styles There are multiple ways to figure out someone’s personal learning style. A person can look at ways that they study best for clues. Does an individual need to write and read everything, watch videos on the subject, must learn by doing, or a combination of these? A person could also take a questionnaire and based on their answers, come to the conclusion of their learning style. One of the most popular ways to learn one’s style of learning is to take a questionnaire created by VARK (VARK, 2014). Different Styles of Learning According to VARK learning questionnaire, the populace fall into five categories. These different sections are visual, aural, read/write, kinesthetic, and multimodal (Vark, 2014). Visual consists of learning best by studying with diagrams or pictures. Visual learners, while studying written words, should find that highlighting information useful ((Blevins, 2014). Persons that are more aurally inclined learn better by listening to information. The aural learner, while studying...

...encouraged to learn in a way that interests them so they have the same equal opportunity to be just as or more intelligent to book smarts who benefit from school in a different way. Back in the 1950’s, you had to choose whether you were a “hood” or a “clean cut” boy. The culture the students grew up in forced them to pick whether they wanted to be book smart and be made fun of, or impress the hoods by being physically and verbally tough. Graff did not agree with this. Graff Believes that schools should want all students to learn efficiently on something that interests them. He argues that street smarts could be equally smart if schools would allow them to learn off of something in their interest. Graff benefited more from playing on the streets and magazines because he was interested in what he was doing. Book smarts enjoy reading schools books, so it is beneficial to them. Gerald Graff’s essay “Hidden Intellectualism” is a critique on how schools are missing out on the opportunity to encourage street smarts to learn in a more effective way. To inform schools and universities, Graff was driven into the writing of his essay from the frustration of street smarts not being able to receive a beneficial education at school like the other students in the 1950’s after World War II. His personal experience growing up motivated him to argue the point that schools should give equal opportunity to both book and street smarts. Graff’s argument is to prove how street smarts can learn off of sports...

...tongue”. And it will help people’s life. Conversely, rivals believe that students should learn Chinese in a more lively way and university students are mature enough to learn Chinese in daily life. In brief, this action both has advantages and disadvantages and brings out different opinions. According to the followers, attending Classes in Chinese is a good way to improve Chinese’s language level. At present, Internet slang is popular with teenagers and foreign languages like English are put on an important place while Chinese is neglected more and more by students. As a result, many young Chinese cannot speak or write properly. Worse still, even some CCTV presenters usually make some mistakes in a program, which reflects the worse status of Chinese language level. Thus, it is necessary for students to attend Chinese classes. What is more, there is much wisdom in Chinese culture and philosophy. People in modern society are all busy with work or study and do not have enough spare time to learn traditional Chinese and philosophy carefully. Furthermore, most of Internet slang and pop culture have brought too much freedom in Chinese language. As a result, attending classes in Chinese is a good way for people to get traditional Chinese wisdom so as to improve their life in the modern world. On the other hand, opponents think that students should learn their “mother tongue” in a more lively way. In their...

Many parents enroll their children into karate lessons that include the event of sparring. They do this so their children can learn how to work hard, be tough, never give up and keep fighting. Those are all essential characteristics that a child needs to learn. In the quote from Golda Meir, he says that adversity is the best sparring partner. Just like sparring can teach children and adults many things, adversity will teach the most. It is inevitable and is the best way to learn. Often there is no escape from adversity and...
