...Week 3 DQ 1: In my attempt to search for academic honest in higher learning using search engines, little was found. When I first said searching, I decided to use google.com and ask.com as my search engines. I decided to look for academic honesty in higher learning (in its entirety). I had more luck with my findings when I used google.com than when I used ask.com. I picked a few websites that sounded like they'd be useful when writing a paper on the topic. The first two that I chose to visit were findarticles.com and wiki.answers.com. Wiki.answers.com literally gave a one sentence definition of what is believed to be academic dishonesty. Findarticles.com gave a short and simple description on academic dishonesty in online courses and provided a few links to articles about academic dishonesty. Those articles gave very little information on plagiarism and other terms defining academic dishonesty. One of the articles only informed a person about using correct citations in a paper and it was only six to eight sentences long. As with google.com, ask.com provided many links to many different colleges and academic institutions. I'm looking for academic integrity, not links to colleges, or links to different colleges' guidelines on their ideas on academic integrity (although they could somewhat prove to be useful). One thing that I was hoping for were statistics (real case studies) on academic dishonesty in higher learning. I did a search using ask.com for statistics...

...situations, or visiting social networking sites such as Facebook. I could start working on my school work whenever I have time instead of wasting my time doing unproductive activities. I could answer discussion questions, read the materials, work ahead, or work on my assignments due at the end of the week. If I learn to use my time wisely it will help me avoid unnecessary stress caused by me wasting time. The second strategy that will help me the most in life and in school would be the eighth strategy. The eighth strategy is getting in touch with my emotions. If I get in touch with my emotions then I can understand them better. If I work on knowing why I feel the way I feel, and handling my emotions that I am feeling then I will be able to correct the negative thinking that is brought on my not knowing or understanding my emotions. If I can correct my thinking, it will be able to help me concentrate more on my schoolwork. Paul, R. (2000). Critical Thinking: Nine Strategies for Everyday Life, Part I. ...1. What is management? Why is management necessary? How do you think management has evolved? To me management is the motivation, leadership and supervision of a workforce or work group. It’s being able to build a team environment where can help develop my team and coach and mentor them to reach new goals. Management is necessary to deliver the visions, goals and missions from our Chief Executive Officers to our frontline employees. Also you are to ensure that the messages being delivered are clear and concise. According to our book we have different levels of management and it seems that all of these levels are important to accomplish our overall goals. However, I would say that one of the most important would have to be our frontline managers. They are the most important I feel because they are the first responders and motivators to our employees. These managers have to be very flexible and balanced. They get information and objectives from the top and also have the issues coming up from the bottom. They are graded usually on how well they can perform and meet the goals laid out from the mid-level managers and at the same time have to keep the focus of their frontline employees on track to meet these goals. This is where I feel that management has evolved over the past few decades. A mangers duty is no longer just to assign the work, set the deadlines and discipline the employees. They need to be good coaches and engage their workforce. Managers have to come up with new...

...Week 4 – DQ 1 DQ1. What are the Five Pillars of Islam? Why are they significant for the life of Muslims? The Five Pillars of Islam are creed (Shahadah), prayer (Salat), charity to the poor (Zakat), fasting during Ramadan (Sawm) and pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj). These five pillars of Islam are significant for the life of Muslims because its part of their faith and it’s also the basis of the Muslim life. The first pillar is the creed that they stand by and believe which is “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger” (Molloy, 2010, p. 431). This is a testimony of faith and it is the most important pillar. The second pillar is prayer, Muslims perform 5 prayer a day (before dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and nighttime) and they can pray almost anywhere because it only takes a couple of minutes. The third pillar is charity to the poor, in order have a more balance society Muslims are required to donate a certain percentage of their total income to the poor and in their everyday life they are expected to help out the poor by acts of generosity and charity. The fourth pillar is fasting during Ramadan which means that every year in the month of Ramadan all Muslims abstain from food, drink and sexual relations from dawn until sundown as a form of purification. The last pillar is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and it is an obligation once in a lifetime and the only individual that are not expected to do this pilgrimage are the ones that can’t afford to do so or because...

...PSY475 (Week 1 DQ 2) Compare and contrast reliability and validity? Going back to Plato’s cave wall of shadows, if we all held up mirrors and reflected a particular point outside the cave would we all see the same thing and further if we were to take another peek an hour later would we see the same thing (reliability). Second is the subject of validity. My second class at college was a critical thinking class. I loved it. I can remember studying syllogisms: All animals are big, all big things are slow, therefore all animals are slow. This syllogism is valid, but not true (i.e. the conclusion reasonable follows from the premises). The problem with this syllogism is that the premises are untrue. They are both global absolutes, which are almost always false or at the very least not completely true in all instances. It is the same with psychological testing: the conclusion must reasonably flow from the facts gathered during experimentation. It would seem that validity has to do more with the interpretation of test results, than the test results themselves. Referring to the hypothesis as an elucidation of causality, validity is the bridge by which the numerical quantification of numbers is verified as it is translated into causation. It is a hindsight mechanism. It is used to verify the applicability of the test results to the hypothetical conclusion of causation. Both are equally important I think. If not, then the test might give great scores one time and not the next or the results...

In fact, that is one of behaviors of transformational leadership. According to our textbook, “Transformational leaders influence, inspire, move, and literally transform followers to achieve organizational goals beyond their self-interests (Burns, 1978), thus initiating and bringing about positive change,” (Weiss, 2011, p.51). There are four behaviors of transformational leadership. They are idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. Idealized influence is the charisma that can inspire followers, (Weiss, 2011). They will want to be like their leader filled with charm and will likely follow him/her because of that charm. Inspirational motivation is exactly what it sounds like. The leader will be able to inspire their followers toward completion of goals. Intellectual stimulation excites followers by pushing them to think outside of the norm. According to our textbook, “Intellectual stimulation can include such leadership behaviors and practices as brainstorming, challenging the beliefs and norms of the group to innovate and be creative, promoting critical thinking and problem solving to make the organization better, and persuading and...

It is HRM’s responsibility to set out the organizational goals and strategies to each and every employee of the organization, but it is the responsibility of the HRM and line managers to work together to determine the needs of each of their departments. HR Planning and Strategic Planning should be integrated as one because in order to obtain the most valuable employees for the organization, HRM must strategically determine the needs in each department of the organization. There are six determining factors in the strategic HR planning process in order to “meet resource demands, examine and evaluate resource deployment, estimate capacity, and recognize and handle human talent” (Youssef, 2012). Her primary insurance coverage is Medicare, and her secondary insurance is Blue Cross-Blue Shield. She has had several visits recently for a variety of ailments. She currently owes the practice $250 for tests that were denied by both Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Her account is now 75 days old. You spoke to her approximately 2 weeks ago, and she said that she was not financially able to pay. She also stated, “I should not have to pay because it was the doctor’s fault for ordering all of those tests that he knew Medicare wouldn’t cover. Those tests didn’t show anything anyway, he was just trying to get more money from me.” She then tells you that you should call Medicare because, “They paid for the same test for my friend. You probably put the wrong diagnosis on the paperwork, and that’s why they won’t pay.” She denies ever receiving the first collection letter that you sent. What would your next step be in the attempt to collect on Ms. Sanders’ account? Explain your rationale. How would you address Ms. Sanders’ claim that Medicare paid for the same test for her friend? Which is more important: collecting the debt or retaining the customer? Week 7 DQ 2 Many people do not think of a medical office as a business. What is the purpose of a medical...
