...communications and electronics staff NCO of the 99th Infantry Battalion. You are replacing SFC Sharp, as a result of his selection for promotion to MSG and departure for a new assignment in two weeks. SFC Sharp impressed you with the welcome you received and all he is doing to ensure that you get off to a good start. Your soldiers appear well trained and your admin sergeant, SSG Day, seems to know just about everything. You know you have big shoes to fill when SFC Sharp leaves because everyone seems to like and respect him. You’ve heard people say that he knows more about infantry operations than most infantrymen do. SFC Sharp has cleaned out his desk and tells you to make yourself at home. Later this afternoon he will receive an award for his service to the 99th. His farewell party is this evening at the NCO club. As you are setting up your things in your new desk, you discover some papers wedged between the wall and the side of the desk. You pull them out and discover that they are pages from a communication security book and marked “SECRET.” You attach a cover sheet to them and go into the security vault to talk to SSG Day. SSG Day checks the inventory and destruction certificates and discovers that SFC Sharp certified that the book these pages came from was destroyed two weeks ago. Both you and SSG Day search the vault and the outer office for any other pages, but you don’t find any. SSG Day turns to you and says, “I don’t know about you, but the way I see this...

...1. Safety is and will always be a top priority. Soldiers will ensure all missions and tasks are accomplished within the safest means possible. This includes making sure everyone is properly hydrated at all times, equipment is being properly PMCSed and always mission-ready. Everyone is a safety officer and can stop an unsafe act at any time. 2. Effective communication between all echelons is the basis for an effective and efficient organization. Through the use of the Chain of Command, not only communication but also the leadership role will be strengthened. It is vital to the success of an organization that the Chain of Command never be broken and followed at all times. Leadership cannot be an effective entity unless all echelons are linked and utilized appropriately. One break in the chain can lead to the breakdown of effective communication among these channels. Therefore any jump in the Chain of Command would compromise organizational communication and success and will not be tolerated....

This process would eliminate weeks of back and forth between originators and approving officials thus shortening the time between submission and approval of the award for the service member. Brief Company Background (Navy, 2013)The following chart presents an overview of the organization of the Department of the Navy. The U.S. Navy was founded on 13 October 1775, and the Department of the Navy was established on 30 April 1798. The Department of the Navy has three principal components: The Navy Department, consisting of executive offices mostly in Washington, D.C.; the operating forces, including the Marine Corps, the reserve components, and, in time of war, the U.S. Coast Guard (in peace, a component of the Department of Homeland Security); and...

...you were successful in terms of backorders as well as levels of inventories? We were the retailer of group 12. At first our customers only ordered 4 items every week so we decided to only order 4 for 2 weeks, and then, in order to cut down our stock price, we decided to cut off our orders to 2 and one week to 0. Right after, the customer demand rose from 4 to 8, and we had a lack of product after the second week and therefore had a lot of backorders, which rose our costs. We decided to order a high amount of products to our wholesaler, but because of the leap time of 4 month, our backorder kept rising and so did our costs. Furthermore, by the time our orders were expected, our wholesaler didn’t have enough stock. As a result our costs rose even more. Once we got all our orders delivered, we managed to sell all our stock and to contain our costs. We think that all in all we were quite successful, except for the few weeks when we had plenty of backorders, we managed to sell everything we ordered, and keep our costs as low as possible. Check out the results of the other players in your supply chain. What are your observations? Are there importances differences? If so, how would you explain these differences in a supply chain where players all depend on the very same end-customers? We can see that the actors of the supply chain that spent the more money are the distributor (1442,5) and the wholesaler (1013). It can be explained by the fact that they depended a lot on the retailer...

Failure to pay your bills and writing bad checks will not only destroy your credit rating, it will get you in deep trouble with the state of North Carolina and you can and will be punished under the UCMJ. 3. Accountability: It is Platoon policy that you report to all formations 10 minutes prior. You must be at your appointed place of duty on time all the time. Your leader must know your whereabouts at all times. If for some reason you know you are going to be late, notify someone within the chain of command, platoon, or squad in advance so that you may be properly accounted for. Keep your leaders informed of all your appointments in a timely manner. 4. Sick Call: Normal sick call hours are 0600-0730 at Joel Clinic. It is the right of every soldier to go to sick call; however it is wrong to abuse this right. You are encouraged to go to sick call as soon as a problem arises but do not use it as an excuse to get out of PT. SFC Sharp failed to shred secret documents that he personally marked as shredded. SGT Day is trying to cover for SFC Sharp and is encouraging me to look the other way. 2. Employ applicable laws and regulations. The unit commander and the unit’s standard operating procedure will determine if the documents were mishandled. SFC Sharp recorded the destruction of the book theses pages were from but the commander and proper personnel can determine if misconduct occurred. My responsibility is to report any questionable or unsafe acts. 3. Reflect on the ethical values and their ramifications. ...and the division with the output being standard. Let’s narrow this to an example of a naval vessel structure. On a ship it is broken down into several different departments which are divided into divisions within the departments, depending on the task of the department. First, we would have to start with the organizational charts which consist of: The Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, Department Head, Division Officer, Leading Chief Petty Officer, Leading Petty Officer and Work Center Supervisor. The Commanding Officer, who is often referred to as the CO, is overall responsible for the entire ship. The CO establishes the policies and guide lines for the ship and has final approval on all documents and programs implemented at the command. The responsibility is absolute...

...Week 3 Assignment 1 1. Functional structure in business works best for smaller companies and is the most common type of structure. Smaller companies that tend to have one product or service and one leader such as an owner or president. Advantages of a functional structure include having a single authority, employees with similar knowledge and a defined chain of command. It is a vertical structure with a hierarchy where information flows to the top of the chain (Daft, 2013. p. 318). Disadvantages of functional structure include things such as being more Bureurocratic and employees tend to overlook the larger picture of the organization. Daft explains that because these type companies are divided into departments, communication and coordination are slow and decision making may be poor (2013). 2. Another structure is the divisional approach. As opposed to the functional way, there are several teams across the same level that works on their own single product or service. Each of these teams has their own leader or manager. Pros of the divisional approach allow teams to be more focused on their own product or service. This allows them to be flexible and more reactive to changes (Daft, 2013. P. 320). Cons of this structure include higher overhead since it takes more employees to make up the teams and there may be a rivalry between teams due to competition. 3. The matrix is a combination of both functional and divisional (Daft, 2013 p. 321). There may be multiple higher leaders...

...this interview was Maggie Negrete. Maggie is an Executive Team Leader for Consumables at Target. As a Consumables Team Leader, Maggie deals with all operations of groceries and fresh produce at her store. Her team consists of four sales floor team members, two backroom team members, and two produce assistants. Maggie is in charge of making sure her grocery and produce department are fully stocked with merchandise and making sure that it is constantly rotated to minimize expired products on the shelves. When she began her new position at Target she walked into a department that had been scored red, according to Target food safety regulations, and quickly turned into a green scored department. She has been working for Target for a little over 4 years and was given that salary-based position as an entry-level manager after she graduated from college. She graduated from California State University of Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration of Management. What common mistakes will new managers make? After asking Maggie the first question, she did not hesitate to respond and immediately answered that poor communication was one of the most common mistakes new managers made. I asked her to elaborate on her response, and she said that new managers do not take the time, or simply do not know how, to establish a foundation or relationships with their new teams. She used herself as an example and stated that when she started as a new manager back in...
