Weirup's Influence On A Play

It was the end of my eighth grade year when my music teacher, Mrs. Weirup, determined it would be fun to do a play and force everyone in the eighth grade class participate in it. At first, I didn’t see it as a big deal; I had figured I would just be a background character anyway. It took what seemed like forever for her to decide what play to put on, but she finally pronounced we were doing The Wizard of Oz. We all had tryout, but we couldn’t audition for a certain character because she knew none of us wanted to be one of the primary characters.
A week after we auditioned, she gave us our roles. This had to be one of the worst moments of my entire life because I had obtained the part I absolutely did not want. She decided to make me the Lion. …show more content…
Weirup determined that we weren’t even close to being ready so she pushed the date of the play back. I was extremely disappointed because I was hoping that the play would have been canceled completely.
A few weeks went by and it was the week of the play and we had only learned about three scenes out of about ten. We were way behind and we had to rush through learning all the scenes. So the play seemed okay for the first few scenes, but it all went downhill from there. To make matters worse I hadn’t been given the chance to practice my song so I asked her when I could and she had everyone watch me while I learned the song. We finished the rest of the play and we all took a bow and exited the stage. The whole time all I could think was “please tell me no one recorded me singing my song”. As we were going home Mrs. Weirup was telling us we did a great show and she was proud of us, but as soon as we got to school the next day she told us that we should have worked harder at it so I’m pretty sure she wasn’t too happy with the way it turned out. Later I found out that my parents did record my performance and they decided it would be funny to show my entire family and their friends. I absolutely hated it when my dad would show the video to people because I never wanted to relive that moment again. Luckily my dad broke his phone and had to get a new one so the video was lost for
