...drawbacks for the state if it should open its border to an inflow of migrants. If it is seen that the impact is probably negative for the state, then he or she would openly accept “the second best-goal of achieving limitation and balance” (Romero 317). This is what separates the Christian realist from the Christian Welcomer, the former’s willingness to concede to the state at the expense of the migrant. The Christian realist is willing to accept the law of the state with an understanding that the brokenness of humans needs to be curtailed and the organization of the state and its laws are methods of keeping this brokenness in-check. Protecting borders and conserving resources for citizens first both demonstrate good stewardship of limited gifts. As argued by James Edwards, the Bible recognizes a special obligation to one’s family, community, and nation (Romero 338) and therefore offers support for the position of the Christian realist on an immigration policy that is not most welcoming to the stranger. But aren’t Christians called to welcome the stranger? To be gracious to their neighbor? The following section offers the views of what I call the Christian Welcomer who is more welcoming to the stranger, and looks to offer an understanding welcoming being a position of providing for the good of one’s own people and the good of the strangers. ...

...history of Christianity, specifically covering the eras of Christian missions, pioneers of the Christian movement and strategies to reach the lost. We were taught that as Christians, we needed a paradigm shift that included being World Christians, that each of us has an expressed role or duty in the fulfillment of The Great Commission. As Christians, we should lead purpose-driven lives, by using our strengths and talents to reach those that have not yet heard about Jesus. The basic roles and practices of World Christians include being “goers”, which are the physical hands and feet of missions and ministry; being “senders”, which are those that financially support individuals, ministries, and Churches that are doing the ministry; being “welcomers”, which are those that show hospitality to international visitors and being “mobilizers”, which help to inspire others to action by realizing their personal responsibility. Lastly, the objective of Apologetics was taught. We had the privilege of hearing first hand from well-known apologists of our time, such as Ravi Zacharias and Josh McDowell. In this course, we were trained with practical ways to Biblically defend our faith from atheists and skeptics. Topics for this course included the authenticity of the Bible, the deity of Jesus, salvation, miracles, and human suffering. The basis of this class was to learn that we are not “apologizing” for our faith or belief, as the term apologetics might imply. Rather, as Christians we are...

...Small business social responsibility: Expanding core CSR theory Laura J. Spence Abstract This paper seeks to expand business and society research in a number of ways. Its primary purpose is to redraw two core CSR theories (stakeholder theory and Carroll’s CSR pyramid), enhancing their relevance for small business. This is done by the application of the ethic of care, informed by the value of feminist perspectives and the extant empirical research on small business social responsibility. It is proposed that the expanded versions of core theory have wider relevance, value and implications beyond the small firm context. The theorization of small business social responsibility enables engagement with the mainstream of CSR research as well as making a contribution to small business studies in scholarly, policy and practice terms. Key words: corporate social responsibility, ethic of care, feminist ethics, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), small business, Carroll’s pyramid, stakeholder theory. Correspondence: Laura J.
