Epoxy is a substance that is formed from two liquid components; a hardener and a resin. When they are mixed, they begin the curing process, its’ end product is a solid and permanent bond. They form an adhesive, glue, filler, paint or other material made from synthetic thermosetting polymers that contain epoxide groups. Epoxy is made from epichlorohydrin and bisphenol-A. Then it is mixed with a hardening agent to make it stronger. When they are mixed, they make a polymerize, which is a long chain of molecules. (eHow) Epoxy resin characteristics- firm, or flexible, hard, rigid, thick, clear resistant to heat or chemicals. They can be bought as powders, or yellow liquids.

One component systems use heat curing, which is used to make the drying time be cut down. (smoothon) They are suppose to be stored in cold temperatures to ensure a long shelf life. One component epoxies are used to fill gaps and bring together large surfaces in the aerospace industry. They are very high performance, have excellent strength, fatigue resistance, and temperature resistance. (globalspec)
Two component systems are harder to be used because they have to be mixed together and used within a set time frame, it could be hours or just minutes. They are made to bond almost all substrates. They too are very strong adhesives, chemical resistant, and are very durable to last a long time. (globalspec)
Epoxy doesn’t dry like most glues do. They don’t shrink after they have dried, either. They are excellent for filling holes in wood, repair items that are uneven, bond two different materials together, like bonding wood with metal. When the epoxy is fully cured, it can be sanded or …show more content…
It isn’t actually a floor it’s just lots of layers of epoxy resins on top of each other that are applied to the surface. It is said to be one of the strongest floors coatings out there. They have many advantages including, durable, neat, slip resistance, and easy to maintain. It also is sold in many colors including clean white, grey, silver, and slate. It comes in patterns like stripes, flakes or even a checker board. It is super easy to apply, you yourself can even apply it within a day depending on how large the project is. If it was quite large I would recommend hiring somebody to do it for you.
