How often do you make bold, risky actions? Once a day, month, year? Some people decide to avoid any unpredictable outcomes overall. Taking bold actions in life is something everybody should do. Making speculative moves is better, especially when it can lead to surprising results. To better understand my position, it is significant to see what happened to Scoot in Theodore Taylor’s “Rogue Wave”. In this short story, Scoot is on a birthday celebration with her brother, Sully, an offshore cruise in a cutter-rigged sailboat called the Old Sea Dog. During their trip, they have a perilous encounter with a rogue wave, a monstrous ocean swell. Scoot could’ve remained trapped in the small kitchen, but she decided to escape, even if it meant losing her life: “Almost out of breath, she quickly pushed her body through and the Old Sea Dog released her.” Her actions of risking her life show why you should make bold actions because you never know what might happen. This also shows why you should make bold actions because it might lead to good results. Scoot was unaware whether or not she would make it out of the galley, but she took her shot and she made it out alive. Furthermore, Stephen Dobyns’ poem of “Icarus’s Fight” also validates that taking bold actions is something everybody should do. In the poem, Icarus does what everybody believes is flying too high, with his wax wings carrying him, but in reality, he got a taste of something nobody else could have without pushing themselves to…show more content… Don’t let your dreams be dreams.” Taking his words into context, you should go out and accomplish whatever goal you have in mind. Don’t wish, dream. Wishes are for people that have given up on whatever they want to achieve, but dreams are for people who take any shot they have and turn it into something big, something great. Make your fantasy into your reality. Take your opportunity and make something out of it. Whatever you want to do, just do
