What Value Really Means
Something that has value is usually seen as having some sort of worth. There are values with a big price tag, and there are values that are priceless. You probably value people with qualities like caring, compassion, good work ethic, responsibility, trustworthiness, etc. Also, you may put value in photographs, memories, heirlooms, and many more; these can be worthless to some and mean the world to others. To one person an object or memory could be priceless. Other values are objects like houses, cars, computers, phones, jewelry, and more. They come with large price tags and are considered universally valuable because of their status symbols. So, which value is more “valuable?” Pricy values are material objects. Diamonds and gold have value because they are rare; flat screens and iPhones have value because they are expensive. They both are symbols of wealth and status, which is why people strive to own the newest, biggest, and best. These objects certainly do have value; but in the end they’re just objects. They’re all relative to what society says is the best. Having valuable objects in today’s world may make people respect you more, and nobody would dispute that having nice things is better than having nothing. But in the end, are the homes and the cars and the money really even valuable? In dollars and cents, obviously, but in life, no. These material values can be taken away in an instant. True value lie in things that can’t be touched or seen, only felt. Priceless values could be memories, people, morals and more that someone would find valuable. The value isn’t in dollars, but in the joy and happiness they bring to the beholder. These valuables, like a picture or an “invaluable” family heirloom, could be worthless to one but could mean the world to another. Alot of people value morals as well. Everyone, to some degree, values morals like integrity, responsibility, creativity, courage, etc. In life you will be drawn to people who share, value, and possess the same moral beliefs as you. They shape who you are as a person, and everyone values themselves to some extent. These can lead us to finding people to share our lives with. Relationships and bonds formed with friends and family can bring you the happiest memories of your life; memories that you wouldn’t trade for anything. The true definition of value is left up to the individual and what they see as valuable. An individual would place the highest value on whatever brings them the most joy. There are valuable people, valuable memories, valuable homes, valuable jewelry, valuable paintings, valuable morals, valuable secrets, valuable friendships, the list could go on forever. Don’t value in the pricey, temporary objects. They are constantly coming in and out of style. The people in your life and things you hold dear to your heart are there forever. Family, friends, and the memories created with them are more valuable than the whole world put together.
