Mrs. Turner was an odd character who did not seem to have much impact on the novel’s plot. A fellow mix of White and Black origin, she is a Mulatto with disdain for all things African and worship for all remotely Caucasian. Her exclusion would not impact the novel much other than losing a basic caricature of bigotry among fellow African Americans in which the belief of White Supremacism is held true. However, she stands well as a foil to Janie, the story’s plucky protagonist who is proud of her color, has a loving husband, is secure in her appearance, and doesn’t care about getting dirty. Mrs Turner is primarily a more proper wife of a husband who doesn’t care if she gets her hands crushed, and she, unknowingly, berates “all Janie has been
