Growing up in a small town in Arkansas called Hughes develops a great appreciation for the educational system. According to "Wikipedia" (2012), the median income for a household in the city is $18,333, and the median income for a family is $22,976. That means about 38.0% of the population were below the poverty line. This is unfortunate and short-sighted.
The statistics of my Arkansas hometown substantiates the need for adult education has never been stronger than it is right now. I believe education is the fastest and most effective path out of poverty and I want to be a part of the solution. I want to be in a position to help adults develop skills they need to compete in a challenging global market.
Parents who have achieved higher education are more likely to have children who pursue higher education and less likely to end up in poverty or in prison. Educated workers have more disposable income to spend on consumer goods, which is why I want to focus on adult education and training. What is true is that having a keener, more educated, and trained labor pool has a much deeper impact that statistics. It also improves self-esteem and generates hope for the future.
