This learning segment incorporates many supports for students with specific needs. Each lesson incorporates visuals and drawing in order to be more accessible for ELLs and Students with learning disabilities. Because of Winn Dixie is a chapter book so there are not pictures in the book, however, visuals from the movie and clips from the movie are used throughout the learning segment in order to aid students in comprehension and making connections to what they are reading. The gallery walk with visuals of disney characters is one example of the use of visuals during this learning segment. The gallery walk strategy is also important to help students because the are allowed to collaborate with the other group members at the same poster as them. The combination of visuals and group work during the gallery walk make it effective for an introduction, where the teacher is looking to assess the students background knowledge about character traits. Also, the teacher would learn key vocabulary that relates to each lesson in the student's native language and recite them every time that she says that word in english to the class. However, struggling readers, students with disabilities, or students with impaired vision, may benefit from using worksheets written in a bigger font, less words written on each page, and more space in between words/problems/answers. This may even make the classwork/reading come across as less challenging or less work for the students. Students may feel overwhelmed with the length of the lessons or amount of work that has to get done, but if they are shown the lesson in mini steps, they won’t have to worry about remembering what to
