As is known to us, although the concept of equality between women and men in society is widely recognized, but the phenomenon of the " glass ceiling " is impeding women obtaining top jobs . Most of the female staff engaged in low-level jobs in many large companies, very few senior female proportion, the proportion of men and women up to 10:1. And 95% of senior management is male, female managers earn on average only 68% of the males of the same level. In my opinion, that is still inequalities of women. Many excellent career women and female researchers are careful thought, patience and endurance, good communication and coordination. They have many advantages and senior management or scientific research need them. There are some examples of women have success in the top jobs. The first example is Meg Whitman who is currently the president and CEO of Hewlett-Packard, eBay former CEO. When she served as president and CEO. Of her successful leadership, eBay has become a global online marketplace for the world's number one consumer e-commerce sites. And she help grasp the direction of the eBay companies in the new economy, and the company has cultivated a truly global market. Also she become the most powerful women in business of U.S. "Fortune" magazine in 2004.The second example is in the politics. She is Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher who was dubbed the "Iron Lady" of the United Kingdom and is the first female leader of the British Conservative Party , is also the first female Prime Minister in British history , create reelection third term of office the 11-year-old record female Prime Minister. Her lead Britain out of the economic difficulties and help to increase the United Kingdom's international status. While there was some advance in relative women’s pay as indicated by statistics on the ratio of female to male pay, in around 1994 the ratio leveled off suggesting an end to progress (See Figure 6.1, McCall 22). The differences in pay are widespread and pervasive applying not only to female-oriented jobs but to any jobs in which men and women both engage. Only at the bottom of the wage scale do women’s and men’s pay tend to converge because of the effect of the minimum wage. Statistics from 2005 show women earning only 0.77 of what men earn (Weinberg 26). Research has brought out many factors that seem to be influential, such as number of hours worked, experience, and differences in employers (Weinberg 26). However, such explanations do not offer much hope for improving the situation so as to make equal pay a reality. The recently passed Ledbetter Bill has closed some loopholes, but it is unlikely to have a significant effect on ending pay disparities (Erbe).
