...evaluate an organization Innovative mission. Beautiful website. Lots of revenue. It can be easy to be impressed by a nonprofit, so how do you determine if an organization is actually doing what it set out to do - and does it well? The process of examining an organization before deciding whether or not it is worthy of your donation is called due diligence and we’re going to guide you through performing this important step. Impact Impact can be defined in broad statistics: 200 youth enrolled, 5,500 meals served, 72 puppies rescued, but what do the numbers mean in the context of the organization? This is when we call in the Theory of Change model. This framework is a cause and effect statement used to articulate how an organization’s intended impact, or mission, is achievable given organizational and financial resources. Not all nonprofits use the theory of change framework, so it might take a little bit of detective work to find all of the pieces. Here are five basic questions to answer about an organization and where to check their websites to find the information: Why: Why does the organization exist? (see Vision or History) Needs: What does the organization want its impact to be? (see Mission) What:What does the organization do to achieve its mission? (see Programs or Activities) So What: What are the short-term and long-term impacts? (see Goals or Outcomes) Who: Who is on the organization’s staff? What is the board composition? (see About Us or People) ...

...apartment building in which I reside. I am married now 3 years, have no children – just a fur face Manchester terrier named Louiee. My previous educational background consist of one semester at Daytona State College in 2001, as a Business Major. I have found that sometimes in live – one’s world can change in an instant and the course of the live that you had planned – suddenly changes. And looking back I believe this is what happened to me, as after one semester I chose to drop out and become involved in the local Daytona Area Music and Club scene. The results: A failed musician and a bloody nasty drinking habit. In 2004 I entered Savannah’s Hospital and completed the 28 day program. Since then I have 8 years without a drink. Woot! I love to share my experience, strength and hope with the newcomers, as I have stayed very active in the A.A. program, and most recently I have begun to teach the local Step Study Meetings for the “Celebrate Recovery” group here in town. “Celebrate Recovery” would be considered the Christian based A.A. program, with literature from author Rick Warren, (writer of “The Purpose Driven Life”) What I’ve found is a wonderful life beyond my dreams – and most days it is a joy to be alive! And when it’s not – every day is another chance to get it right. As the Economy here in Florida continues fail, and especially with the future closing of the NASA Space Center here in Titusville, Florida, I have decided that the time is perfect for...

...Introduction Amazon.Com is a leading online retailer company, offering for sale different items such as books, music, DVDs, videos, toys, electronics, software, video games and home improvement products serving almost 22.5 million customers over 150 different countries. This company was founded in July 1995 by Jeff Bezos in the state of Washington USA. Jeff Bezos now 37 years old, received his BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University. His professional career started at Bankers Trust Company in 1988, where he became Vice President in February 1990. At the end of the same year he moved to D.E. Shaw & Co. a Wall Street investment firm, becoming Senior Vice President in 1992. In those early years for the Internet retail business, Mr. Bezos noticed an important opportunity on the online commerce. He made a list of possible products that could be sold on line, including books, magazines, music, among others and finally he decided to start selling books. The main reasons of his choice were because there are more books to sell than music titles and also because the book publishing industry is more accessible than the music industry, mainly controlled by half a dozen of big record companies. With a dream in hand he quitted his job in June 1994 and moved to the West, choosing Seattle as starting point because its proximity to a major book distributor, Ingram’s Warehouse in Oregon. This is how the company that took its name from the river with the...

...AWS Self-Service Reporting Infrastructure Tool Evaluation Introduction Ease of use of the AWS data warehouse is one of the key tenants of the AWS DW team. Currently AWS DW customers connect directly to data warehouse databases (RO & Primary) and use SQL to extract the data. Providing a general-purpose and self-service reporting infrastructure significantly reduces the effort spent by data warehouse customers to exact data and subsequently build metrics decks and dashboards. Oracle Business Intelligence (OBIEE) and Tableau are being evaluated for their suitability for our AWS data warehouse customers. We are recommending Tableau. We have determined that it provides the best self-service experience for general purpose reporting needs and for more advanced data analytics and data visualization needs of the users of the AWS data warehouse. Problem Statement AWS data warehouse customers build and maintain SQL’s to extract data from the data warehouse. Once the raw data is extracted, it is often combined with custom data for individual services. Metrics on excel worksheets are then generated/updated. These excel worksheets are circulated to service team members and leadership for analyzing the usage and revenue of their products and also for identifying opportunities for operational improvements. Most tasks that involve creating the metric desks are manual, consuming significant effort of the data warehouse customers. The manual efforts are typically error prone and associated...

...Chaucer portrays the Wife as a very unconventional character which becomes more evident throughout the text as she voices her opinions on things such as marriage and sex. ‘’Thoroughly selfish ‘’ indicates that the Wife only cares about herself and is in no way altruistic. It could also be argued that she is ‘unlikeable’’ as she seems to portray her views in an anti-feminist manner due to her lack of support for women as well as her deceitfulness and using her sexuality to manipulate men. However, this could be a result of being in a male dominated society, and despite the negative stereotypes that she embodies she does stand up for herself albeit it is in a contradictory vulgar manner. On the other hand, Giovanni can be considered ‘selfish and unlikeable’ due to his manipulative nature. He manipulates Annabella by lying and trying to justify his incestuous feelings for her. Although, it could be suggested that he is not entirely ‘unlikeable’ because his charm is evident throughout the text and it could indicate that he does love Annabella even though he possesses impure thoughts. The Wife’s manipulative and deceitful nature may portray her as a selfish and an unlikeable character, those characteristics are evident throughout the text. She justifies her autonomous lifestyle by using biblical exegesis, and although she misinterprets it for her own benefit it still portrays her as an intelligent woman which in turn manipulates the audience. For example, she validates her sexual...

...consumer electronics retail sector with companies such as Staples and Office Depot, which offer a small selection (compared to Best Buy) of competitively priced electronics and accessories. Other competitors, particularly in the areas of laptop computers and televisions, include retailers such as Costco and Wal-Mart (Funding Universe). However, all brick and mortar retailers are facing increasing pressures from online retailers, which given their comparably lower operating costs, can accept much lower profit margins on each item that they sell. Amazon is by far the most formidable player in this market, given that it has assembled a massive global network of highly automated warehouses, acquired successful online retailers like Zappos and Woot!, has struck deals with parcel carriers to offer 2-day and overnight shipping at very low prices, and cultivated a reputation for offering products at low prices with particularly lenient and understanding customer service. These advantages have helped to cultivate a considerable brand affinity for Amazon among consumers. Additionally, Amazon has carved into the markets for media that big box stores like Best Buy have depended upon for revenue – Amazon offers a large catalog of digital music, as well as an ever-expanded catalog of movies and television shows that can be streamed,...

...Amazon Inc. SeifAllah Marzouk – Ahmed Fadel – Mohamed Hajaij Introduction Amazon is the global leader in ecommerce. It directly sells a huge range of diverse products. Ranging from books to music to other physical goods and, their specialized asset, Kindle e-book. The company attains their high value-added differentiation by customer-focused information services such as holding online customers’ preferences and providing customization. One of the main competitive advantages of the company is unique bundling of several recourses such as service and distribution. Amazon was initially an online bookseller that directly shipped orders to customers; however, the company grew substantially and soon established a distribution network through which it could ship millions of items to customers all over the world at the lowest costs possible. Operating 10 websites in more than 45 countries now gives Amazon a strategic advantage in its diversity. Amazon was founded in 1994 in the state of Washington DC, USA. It strategically competes internationally by attaining the lowest prices amongst its competitors. With regards to book selling, Amazon’s biggest competitor is Barnes and Noble. While Barnes and Noble enjoys the spoils of selling in the physical world and online, Amazon is stuck in the cyber world (which evidently keeps costs down but doesn’t help with the sales)...

...five Great Lakes: Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. The town did not have a lot of things, just the necessities: a grocery story, a diner, a gas station, a bank, a post office, and a school. Though, the crown jewel of the town, not to mention the county, or even the state, was the diner. People would travel from all over just to eat at this diner. This particular establishment was well known across the state, but not because it was fancy, but because of the Fishy Fry Burger Sandwich. The fishy fry burger is the well-known menu item in the state of Michigan. It consisted of toasted buns, fried fish sticks, a patty, lettuce, and secret sauce. I know that doesn’t sound very appetizing, but people loved it. Jack Johnson was the owner of JJ’s Woot, Hoot, and Eat (the diner). His father’s father, had a brother, whose grandfather, J.J., invented the sandwich and owned the diner, which was passed down through the generations, along with the name. The Johnsons were a respectable family, appreciated by everyone. Johnson’s eatery consisted of him and two other people, Chutzpah Jones and Texas Cleveland. Chutzpah earned his name by, just simply being a bold person. Then there was Texas Cleveland, a tall guy that looked like he was from Texas. Now these two employees were the finest help in all of Michigan, though it wasn’t because they worked hard, but because they worked for little pay. They’d always refer to Johnson as “Captain”, but nobody knows why, probably because he wears a captains...

...Groupon: Helping Consumers with Purchase Decisions University of Chicago graduate student Andrew Mason was in a rut. “There’s so much to do in Chicago,” he explains, “but I found myself going to the same movie theaters and restaurants.” To help people like him try new places, Mason started a website that offered coupons to large groups. The result was Groupon, a company that offers “group coupons” in deal-of-the-day offerings for local or national businesses. Consumers love the concept, buying everything from restaurant certificates, to yoga lessons, to tickets to a museum exhibit. “We think the Internet has the potential to change the way people discover and buy from local businesses,” says Mason. THE COMPANY AND GROUPON CONCEPT Mason started with a website called ThePoint.org, which was designed to organize campaigns, protests, boycotts, and fund-raising drives for important social issues. ThePoint was not successful but it provided the concept of making offers that are only carried out if enough people commit to participate in them. With that idea Mason launched Groupon in October 2008 with a two-pizzas-for-the-price-of-one offer at the Motel Bar, located in the same building where ThePoint rented space. The concept quickly grew in Chicago and Groupon expanded into other U.S. cities and then into other countries. Today Groupon is available in 375 American cities and 48 countries, and its subscriber base has grown from 400 in 2008 to 200 million today. In its fourth full...

...1. What does it means to have the mission, “the earth most customer-centric company”? How well is Amazon achieving this mission? The concept of customer-centric and its benefits has been discussed for more than 50 years. Drucker (1954) wrote in his book, The Practise of Management, that “it is the customer who determines what a business is, what it produces, and whether it will prosper.” Levitt (1960) proposed that firms should not focus on selling but rather on fulfilling customer needs. Gavan ( 2012) further elaborate that customer centricity doesn’t mean doing everything customers want. It means focusing on what they value most, in line with overall business strategy and brand promise. For example, the most important thing for a budget airline customer is price. While passengers might like extra leg room, they don’t want it at the expense of low airfares. Danish (2006) summarised the characteristic of an organisation with customer-centric as below:- Basic Philosophy | Serve customers; all decisions start with the customer and opportunities for advantage | Business Relationship | Relationship Oriented | Product Positioning | Serve customers; all decisions start with the customer and opportunities for advantage | Organizational Structure | Customer segment centers, customer relationship managers, customer segment sales team | Organizational Focus | Externally focused, customer relationship development, profitability through customer loyalty; employees are customer...

SNS websites like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Flickr, LinkedIn, Google’s g+, etc. have opened a new era of innovative techno-entrepreneurship which has immense potential to sustain growth and unfold business opportunities. The prowess of these websites can neither be ignored nor underestimated as this would mean restricting the business to a limited sphere in a seemingly limitless world. Social networking sites allow users to share ideas, activities, events, and interests within their individual networks. The main types of social networking services are those which contain category places (such as...

...The founder Jeff Benzos has been under heat lately for his company buying up smaller companies and destroying their competition. Since the creation of Amazon in 1994 the company has bought several subsidiaries. These include Audible, Create Space, Goodreads, Woot, IMDb, Zappos and The Bottom Line. With these companies in different market shares, some may say that amazon is becoming a monopoly. If that hasn’t proved my point, Amazon has stated that they wish to be the number one online retailer. As Carnegie, and Rockefeller bought up companies to build there brand to make the most money possible so is Jeff...
