This week we finally returned back into the classroom. As I previously mentioned in my other journals, we had been preparing for this moment for weeks and now the time had finally arrived. During the drive to the preschool my team members and I rehearsed our plan for the day and how we discussed how we would transition from one activity to the next. We all agreed that the best way to transition the children to a new activity would be by singing songs. For example, our first task was to read Oonga Boonga to the children and my team members and I agreed to sing a song called “it’s time to put the books away” to signal to the children that it is now time to end story time and to begin a new activity. These centers include writing, reading, dramatic play, painting, and puzzles. This week I was responsible for the writing center and my job was to supervise and manage the writing center. I was assigned a table and I needed to encourage children to participate in my center. I said “Hi, welcome to the writing center. Here in the writing center, we will be drawing pictures of our families like the family in Oonga Boonga (the book we previously read). Would you like to draw a picture of your family?
During my time at the writing center, I witness something that I was not expecting. For instance, I was explaining to a group of children, including a particular boy name Evans that in the writing center we would be drawing a picture of our families. I showed them a drawing of my family and I explained to them each member in my family. Evans looked down at his paper and began to draw. I gave the children a few minutes to draw and then I tried to
