Mitosis is a process where cell division takes place equaling into a different phases where the cell is being replicated into two identical groups. Interphase, Prophase, Prometaphase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase are nuclear division including cytokinesis that supports the cell division in the cell cycle. Meiosis is similar process to Mitosis but its more special, which segregates one cope of each homologous chromosome into new gametes, which contains a single copy of chromosome. Each cell after cell division has half the number of chromosomes as the original parent cell.
“What wasps can tell us about Sex” by Christoph Vorburger
Researchers found out that wasp that can reproduce asexually and sexually in the course of evolution. They came up with various theories that explain the problem of comparison. The modes of Reproduction in wasp are different both in genetic difference and individual difference. “Females develop from fertilized eggs and makes from unfertilized eggs. I n sexual populations, females only produce daughter without fertilization” according to the Science Daily article by C. Vorburger. Using cross experiments, the traits that are inherited are recessively and traits that act like a single genetic factor. Asexually reproduction genetically happens over a short period of time because there is o genetic mixing and adaption conditions are difficult to adjust to. I thought this article was interesting because not only do they reproduce in one way but also they reproduce both way, Asexual and Sexual. Wasp of all insects has different techniques of adapting to nature’s reproduction cycle. “No Sex Please, We’re females” by John Stublar
Henry Doorly Zoo in Nebraska found evidence that female hammerhead sharks reproduce sexually but recently found that they could be mated asexually by an unusual method known as “Parthenogenesis” is where growth and development of embryos occur without fertilization of a male. Studies stated that whether the female store sperms from a last reproductive mate that she encountered. She gave birth to a healthy male hammerhead shark that is perfectly fine. They did test on the baby shark just to make sure their results were corrected and as proven, there was no lead of male DNA that was found, but could tell who its mother was. CO-AUTHOR Dr. Shivji, stated that females sharks can switch from a sexual to a non-sexual mode of reproduction if there isn’t no male species are around. The specific type of method that a female go through is called ”automictic parthenogenesis” that have less diversity that a regular sexual reproduction. Un-fertilized egg that contains half of their mothers genetic diversity from a normal fertilized egg or it could be identical from a sister polar body beside the egg. I find this article vey interesting because thinking about sharks, I get scared and to know that they are so much facts that people done know are important and cool. Sharks not having sex over a period of time impregnate themselves and gives of an offspring.
