In the story “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston, Janie had to deal with a traumatic experience that brought her the realization that she had fulfilled her spiritual journey all along. The love she had for Tea Cake played an important factor to her quest as well as his death. Through his death the author is able to demonstrate that not only was Tea Cakes’ death horrendous but needed for Janie’s quest to end. Janie truly loved Tea Cake.
