Abstract For our experiment, classical conditioning was investigated. Our participants were (N=181) lab virtual rats. Our study was investigated by pairing a light with a shock and see if our lab rat (Sniffy) showed freezing behaviors. There were three conditions to our study acquisition, extinction and spontaneous recovery. During the acquisition stage, Sniffy’s freezing behavior increased when the light was paired with the shock. In the extinction stage Sniffy’s behavior declined since the light

at the sight of food, the unconditioned stimulus (US). Unconditioned stimulus (US) produces an unconditioned response (UR), a response that does not require learning. In Pavlov's dog experiments, immediately prior to presenting the US (the food), Pavlov introduced a neutral stimulus (a ringing bell), which normally does not elicit a response (salivation). After pairing the two

2. Behavioural Learning Theories Also called stimulus-response theories: Based on the premise that observable responses to specific external stimuli signal that learning has taken place. Classical Conditioning Pavlov: Conditional learning results when a stimulus (unconditional stimulus: food) that is paired with another stimulus (conditional stimulus = bell) that elicits a known response serves to produce the same response when used alone. Optimal conditioning:

The Placebo Effect For years, scientists have sought to find an explanation for the placebo effect. Although many hypotheses exist, there is no one reason defining why or how the placebos work. Some researchers argue that the phenomenon doesn't even occur; that the placebo effect is merely random mistake and that any improvement said to be caused by a placebo is only a spontaneous recovery in the patient's condition. Other scientists argue that Pavlovian conditioning supports an explanation

In: Philosophy and Psychology Reflection Paper The “Little Albert” Experiment was conducted by John B. Watson and Rosalie Raynor. Watson was interested in showing that emotional reactions could be classically conditioned or learned in people. He based his research off of Pavlov’s research with dogs. The participant in the experiment was “Albert B”, as Watson called him, but became known as Little Albert. Around 8 months, Little Albert was placed in a room and an experimenter stood behind him

In addition to my experience in September 2012, another event that influenced my career choice was Hurricane Ivan. Several years ago, this catastrophic hurricane devastated the small island of Grenada. My grandfather lived there and he lost everything he owned. It was amazing to visit the island, and see firsthand the damage created. My grandfather's home built
