...30 June 2009 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8127705.stm British Airways seeks pay freeze British Airways wants staff to accept a two-year pay freeze, according to documents seen by the BBC. The company had already announced it was looking for 3,000 redundancies among crew and administrative staff. Talks between unions and management to agree on cost savings were adjourned earlier and should resume on Wednesday. BA is struggling as the economic downturn continues to hurt its business. It recently asked staff to work for nothing to save money. BA is also pushing for significant changes in working conditions. Reconvene The Unite and GMB unions said the talks with BA on its financial situation would reconvene at 1000 BST on Wednesday. They said they were seeking "a mutually acceptable way forward which protects the long- term interests of our members, loyal BA customers, investors and the company". British Airways has said 800 workers volunteered to work for nothing for up to a month, following the airline's request to cut costs. Another 4,000 employees are taking unpaid leave, 1,400 people have volunteered to work part-time and a further 740 overseas workers had also agreed to the cost-cutting measures. The airline had put the proposal to 40,000 staff. BA chief Willie Walsh has already agreed to work unpaid in July, forgoing his month's salary of £61,000. ------------------------------------------------- Unions said asking staff to work for nothing...

...Abstract All eyes are fixated on the country which boasts of the highest levels of democracy and the ‘champion’ of human rights in the world. The United States of America is at a critical stage in its historical development poised between political regression and economic decomposition. The year 2014 was marred with a myriad of African-American shootings, incarceration of protesters and other deplorable acts of police brutality. It is my view in this paper that these incidences are much more profound and anchored in historical aspects the most astounding being racism and oppressive legislation proffered since the days of slavery and Black oppression. I will deliberately use the ‘Black and White’ epithet so as to traverse my arguments. The years in between the Occupy Wall...

The process of European integration started later there. European identity is difficult to describe. Distinction between east and west means post-communism (eastern). Central Europe: Czechs feel like being central Europeans (since they don’t want to be part of eastern Europe.) → idea of central Europe is based on Austrian-Hungarian-Empire + parts of Germany eg Bavaria. The link is also the way of making decisions, working, doing things, tradition, waking up early (Franz Josef) → many similarities. Labour’s Reforms o The constitutional reforms initiated by the Labour Government elected in 1997 together promise to transform the institutional structure of the United Kingdom. ▪ The Scottish Parliament and the Welsh Assembly are the most tangible signs of this transformation but other constitutional reforms are either in being or well under way …… ▪ including the Human Rights Act of 1998 (incorporating the European Convention on Human Rights), ▪ a directly-elected mayor and assembly for London, ▪ a reformed House of Lords ▪ and Freedom of Information legislation. ▪ Although reform of the electoral system for Westminster now seems a somewhat distant prospect, the 1999 elections to the Welsh Assembly, to the Scottish Parliament and to the European Parliament were all conducted using electoral systems very different from the traditional first-past-the-post method. ▪ Referendums have been widely used, and more promised o Lecture by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine of Lairg, to the Constitution Unit, Westminster. 8 December 1998 o No other Government this century has embarked upon so significant or wide-ranging a programme of constitutional reform as the New Labour Government...

...Surely it won’t be all that difficult to defeat the enemy nations fighting alongside our allies! August 10th marked the day I made the terrific decision to enlist in the army, after seeing the huge posters reading: “Your country needs you! Will you answer the call? ENLIST NOW and enjoy the army life you have been dreaming about!” I’ve always wanted a life full of adventure and travel! Quite like the stories I’ve read about in books of far way and exotic places, and now here’s a jolly good chance at freedom. The dream of my big adventure along with my best mate Tommy...I can hardly contain my excitement! Bad form the recruitment officer said, that’s what it would be, almost a sin to turn your back, ignoring the call for help and defend democracy! The Australian headline read: “Britain Battles to Maintain Control over the European Region.” The Sydney Morning Herald had two bold words “THE HUN”. Germany and its allies had to be defeated, once and for all! Mother will most definitely be proud of me when I return home at Christmas, because as a soldier I earn 6...

...though the Chiefs of police are not in the field, they still have to use discretion in making very important decision that affects the department and the community as a whole. In the DC Sniper case, Chief of Police Charles A. Moose use discretion in the investigation by deciding what information should be shared with the public. As the Chief of Police one of his most important duties is to reassure the public of their safety. While trying to keep the public informed without causing panic, Chief Moose limited the details of the investigation in order not to alert the snipers. With this being one of the most tumultuous killing sprees within the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, crucial decisions were made by Chief Moose in an effort to save lives. At the crime scene of the eighth victim a tarot card and a note were recovered as evidence with a specific message directed to law enforcement. Chief Moose decided to use his better judgment and not release the latest finding at the crime to the media. His reasoning behind his controlling...

Course Description: China, the most populous country, is an excellent "laboratory" for the social scientific study of political, economic and social behavior. The Twentieth Century alone has seen many changes in China's fundamental institutions: from imperial courts to military regimes and single-party police states, from rural households to international stock-holding companies, and from foot-binding and slavery to mass movements and democracy protests. The latest development in the last decade has led to the calling of the twenty-first century as “the Chinese Century,” which suggests the possibility that the 21st century will be dominated by China, similarly to how "the American Century" refers to the 20th century and "the British Century" refers to the 19th century.[1] The phrase is used particularly in the assertion that the economy of China will overtake the economy of the United States as the...

...Bastian Steppin March 24th 2013 000111821 Dr. Reimers CIS 300 Research Paper ERP systems The world’s economy moves fast, indeed it moves so fast that businesses need to be ready to change their strategies and market scope in the blink of an eye. To catch up with the rest of the world companies need to transform their whole resource management system away from old fashioned management consultants up to ERP systems, which operate faster, more effective and more precise. The key to run a business with success is to be innovative and use resources as efficient as possible. Many players on the competitive market make big mistakes on calculating their revenue and expenditure. Unfortunately most of the time the calculations neglect to take all expenditures in account. The human resource department for example often forgets to include the salaries paid to freelancers. Instead they only put the salaries of their permanent employees. Thus they only look at their fixed cost, but not on their real expenditure. The real problem about these relatively small mistakes is that they usually never come alone. Such miscalculations can be seen as cancer, whose metastases crawl throughout a company and make small damage in all the different sectors. Now take the whole company and the small sums ad up to one great deficit. The answer to all these problems is called ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). Thanks to the digital revolution, which started in the early 1980’s companies...

Local groups often have different foci, but among the movement's prime concerns is the belief that large corporations and the global financial system control the world in a way that disproportionately benefits a minority, undermines democracy and is unstable.[8][9][10][11] The first Occupy protest to receive wide coverage was Occupy Wall Street in New York City's Zuccotti Park, which began on 17 September 2011. By 9 October, Occupy protests had taken place or were ongoing in over 95 cities across 82 countries, and over 600 communities in the United States.[12][13][14][15][16] Although most active in the United States, by October 2012 there had been Occupy protests and occupations in dozens of other countries across every continent except...
