5 Ways to Succeed in Today’s Technology-Driven World

I have learned some valuable considerations about marketing by leveraging technological advancements while reading the article “5 Ways to Succeed in Today’s Technology-driven World” by Bart Foster posted on August 6th on the website Mediapost.com. His article outlines how technology is changing the face of the healthcare industry by way of data digitalization, mobile applications, and self-service customer platforms. He argues that healthcare companies should pay attention to the importance of technology driven marketing not only for the benefits of aiding their clients/patients but also so they can ride the tide of the social media and data cloud technology. Conventional marketing techniques are becoming outdated and, according to a source of the article, chief marketing officers will be budgeting more for technology than Chief Information Officers by the year 2017. According to Mr. Foster’s article, healthcare companies must take full advantage of their technology by reaching the following five goals. First, professionals need to get technical with their understanding so as to ensure a full understanding of the possibilities of the benefits of technology rather than only relying on their technology department to serve in this capacity. Secondly, executives need to embrace collaboration. Chief marketing officers and chief information officers are working more and more together in a daily operational setting with other parts of the organization benefiting from the gained information fostered from their close union. Thirdly, everyone from the Chief Executive Officer to front line employees need to lead the charge in maximizing the benefits that technology can provide in reducing the gaps between departmental areas. The fourth goal is to prove business results are improving by looking at the direct increase in revenues. Lastly, Foster states that companies need to enhance customer experiences because everything we do as a company should be focused on making the customer experience rewarding and beneficial. Foster referred to the merger between Publicis Group and Omnicom Group as an underscoring of the changes in today’s marketing and technology systems. These two companies have joined forces to become the world’s largest advertising conglomerate. The new company known as Publicis Omnicom Group will spend most of their resources focusing on growing their data analysis capabilities to service their clients. This merger provides an example of the technological expansions that the business world is making in order to better serve clients and potential markets by turning data into meaningful analysis. Companies who work hand-in-hand with their clients/patients to deliver better services developed from mining their own data are creating more effective and efficient ways of delivering the best bang for their buck Reading the article one cannot help but realize that the digitalization of the world has created a huge benefit to the companies willing to invest in their technological capabilities. However, to fully receive the benefits that technology offers companies, they must go beyond just improving their data systems. They must also transform the way their business units interact by transforming operational strategies, company budgeting, and the underlying importance of each of their employees, continuously developing their ability to understand and utilize technological resources. Only when businesses change their culture to one that is inclusive of technology in all facets of the organization from human resource management, operational activities, and client support can they fully receive the benefits of their investments. Further, being aware of the changes that are occurring in societal functionality, governmental regulation, and the global infrastructure with regards to technology will benefit organizations who intend to get ahead of or ride the ever-changing tides each brings to their business efforts. In general I would say the article spoke well to how companies can reduce the gap between branches of their business caused by technology and a lack of knowledge by those branches. However, I would have liked to have seen something from Mr. Foster to discuss actual strategies of employing technology advancements and how specifically these changes could be used in the healthcare industry. Mostly his article was conjecture and fundamental information anyone with basic business acumen could comprehend or speak to.
