A cooking experience
I love to cook, but unfortunately with my school, work and homework I don’t have the time to do it as often as I would like to. But when I do have the time I love to spend a whole afternoon in the kitchen cooking. Most of the time I manage to make something good, but sometimes it doesn’t go quite as planned.
My favorite dish to cook is meatloaf with baked potatoes, carrots and onions. It’s a very tasty and also easy dish to cook, and after making it so many times I really improved and by now I’m able to make it with no flaws.
I remember my first time making the dish. I found the recipe on the internet and assumed that we had all the ingredients needed. In the recipe it said to start with mixing the meat with salt and pepper, but to my big surprise I found out, that we were out of salt. I couldn’t just overlook such an important ingredient as salt, because I knew for the fact that too much salt in a dish can completely ruin its flavor, but so can lack of salt. So I had to run down to the nearest grocery to buy some. I had to hurry, otherwise I wouldn’t be finish at time.
When I arrived back home, I added the salt with the rest of the ingredients into the dish, and placed it in the fridge for about ten minutes. Meanwhile I peeled the vegetables, and cut them in halves and then placed them on a baking sheet. The next step was to take the meat out of the fridge and shape it to an oblong ball, and after that to place the meat on the baking sheet next to the vegetables, and then to place the baking sheet in the oven for 45 minutes.
While the meatloaf and the vegetables were in the oven I went out of the kitchen to watch television. I don’t remember what I watched, but I got so caught-up, that I forgot all about my meatloaf in the oven.
All of a sudden I could smell something burning, and I jumped out of the couch and ran out to the kitchen.

...Childhood Cooking Beckie Wakefield ITT Tech Childhood Cooking Think back to childhood years and those few things done at home with mom or dad that seemed so small then but have come to be a favorite memory. Of all the aspects of my childhood one of the most influential and memory filled was cooking in the kitchen with my mother. In addition to cooking being a favorite memory for me I believe it is a great activity to do with children, it is a useful lifelong skill and it is relaxing and enjoyable. I am grateful that I was taught how to cook and how to enjoy cooking as a child. It has filtered into my life as an adult and my family now. I can recall the wonderful smells of the traditional fall time cooking, apple crisp, whoopee pies and my favorite fresh chocolate chip cookies wafting through my little house in the woods of Maine. I am happy to be able to include Makenzie in the joy I get from cooking. I remember how thrilled I was to come home and see ingredients set out on the counter and know that mom had a new recipe project to do. I can now repeat those projects with Makenzie, it is so satisfying to see her get excited to learn from me and do something we’ll both always remember. Cooking is a great bonding time for a child and adult it is fun and children can be inventive and not realize that what they are being taught will follow them through life. Besides the nostalgic aspects of learning to cook throughout childhood and growing up into an adult it has come to...

Observational Learning: More Than Trial and Error

...More then Trial-and-Error Calvin Smith, Jr. Middlesex County College PSY-123 3/6/2012 Introduction Observational: based on observation or experience. Merriam-Webster (2012) Learning: A systematic, relatively permanent change in behavior that occurs through experience. King, L. A. (2010). But what is Observational Learning? According to Albert Bandura, observational learning, also called imitation or modeling, is learning that occurs when a person observes and imitates behavior. King, L. A. (2010). This process, in theory, simplifies learning and eliminates the potentially hazardous and tedious trial-and-error periods in other forms of learning. I have found this to be very true in my own life in the constant teachings of my 8-year-old son. Summary of Theory Bandura’s Model of Observational Learning applies 4 elements to effectively achieve learning; Attention, Retention, Motor Reproduction and Reinforcement. The belief here is that through these elements a person can essentially be given the experience step by step and hence learn from observing someone else’s actions and advice. The first process that must occur is attention. In order for a person to be able to imitate an action they must attend to what the model is saying or doing. For example, if you attend a cooking class and find yourself texting through the beginning instructions you are likely to miss key information which will ultimately keep you from learning how to...
