...Continental AG - Making a tough call (A) Abstract The international management program IMP was found to challenge individuals, working in a community. These challenges, projects of importance which require high amount of attention were designed for participants as first business experience. This cross-national working together is guided by a mentor. The program is designed to take about seven months in addition to the regular work. This article deals with the key difficulties present in the International management program IMP 2000 project group consisting of three Continental AG workers, Meier, Winkel, and Caldwell. This case study consists of analyzing methods of the performance of the IMP team with management theories. Team leadership and development and how the theory of shared leadership explains the difficulties managed by the group. Tuckmans linear model, including the five stages of team development, forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning will play an important role in explaining the teams failures in a more structuralized approach. Furthermore advisees addressed to Dammermann and the teams management group, attempting to settle the failure of the IMP project group. Focusing on improving communication, team building, and the utilization of a moving system to increase team and individual focus. ...The IMP-2000 software team is a disaster because of the free-riding nature of its team members, the failure to engage within their team and with other IMP participants, failure to diagnose task objectives, and failure to establish functional team norms. The IMP-2000 software team fails to establish a successful team environment resulting in free-riding by team members. Caldwell contributes the most visible effort to the collective output of the team. He is the only software team member that presents during each of the Modules to the other IMP participants and facilitation team. It is unclear if Meier and Winkel present during any Modules. Most notable, during Module 4, while recommendations and implementation strategies are the primary module component, Caldwell discusses his interviews with managers at Texas Instruments and Teves. While the presentation in Module 4 fails to show any preliminary conclusions, it illustrates Meier’s and Winkel’s lack of team participation and failure to exert little/no effort in the collective success of their team deliverable. As a collective, the IMP-2000 software team also fails to engage in formal and informal interaction within their team and with other IMP participants. Though Meier and Winkel were of German decent, as members of a global organization and the selected IMP members, it was imperative that their business acumen and cross-cultural communication skills were tested with their colleagues. Meier and Winkel fail to engage in sports...

...Have you ever been in a very tough life or death situation? Brian had a lot of aha moments through the book Hatchet. There were good ones, and there were bad ones. The good ones were crucial for Brian to survive, and the bad ones were tough. I picked the two aha moments Brian had that I thought were the most important to survive. One was very crucial to getting out of the wilderness and the other was an important wilderness lesson. Now, I will be talking about the fist aha moment I found. A one about wisdom. In chapter 18, the text says, “The hatcher. He might be able to cut or hack with the hatchet…” This aha moment was so important because without it he probably would not have been able to get in the sunken plane. Then, if he did not get...

...Alexander Team B discussed the decision making that the CEO of Xerox had to perform in the beginning of her tenure in order to get the company to where it is today, stable and competitive. I think that we all agreed that when she first took the position that she had to make some tough decisions by cutting departments which in turn meant cutting jobs which is always going to be a hard thing for any manager to do within any company. In the state that the company was in when the CEO took it over hard decisions had to be made in order to keep the company out of bankruptcy. She closed down the desktop printers division and focused on the commercial printers to give the company a boost in sales and it worked. Fast speed color printers are something needed in almost every company, Xerox just has to stay competitive with HP and Brother in order to keep the company running in the right direction. We also found it very interesting and noble that the CEO keeps the company to have a family fell to it. At sometimes one of the team members felt that this could be a downfall due to keeping a family orientated environment would cause a manager or anyone with an authoritative position not want to make the tough calls when needed closures, layoffs etc. The team also found it interesting that a former CEO that had left the company had been asked to come back and basically handpicked Anne Mulcaly to be his successor. It turned out to be the best move for the company and immediately began to...

...Bithja Laurent MGMT6213 Desperate Air 2/14/16 The hypothetical given in Desperate Air mimics the scenario displayed in the “How to Make Tough Ethical Calls” article written by Jeffrey L. Seglin. In hindsight, the easiest possible answer is to avoid disclosing matters that are non-material. The Florida law does not require disclosure of hazardous substances on commercial property so long as there hasn’t been a fraudulent misstatement about the condition of the property. In retrospect, good ethical practice does considers that if there is the faintest question about whether or not to disclose an issue to potential buyers, avoid the potential for liability and tell all. (NOLO) Generally, a seller is responsible for disclosing only information within his/her personal knowledge. (NOLO) So what is a person to do in this case, where Nash was informed about the toxic waste on the property but was instructed by a DAC lawyer that it is not required to disclose? Let’s first consider the facts before a decision is rendered. As mentioned, the Florida law does not require a disclosure. However, I believe there are different factors at hand that may overrule that law. One factor to consider is conducting negotiations under good faith. This rule requires parties to act honestly. During negotiations, Nash provided Fledgling with a copy of the full environment audit report that was conducted 6 months ago. By providing that document, it demonstrated that Nash began the negations under good...

...middle school through freshman year in high school. Until one person, an ROTC instructor that I met freshman year his name is Chief Master Sargent Butler we call Chief. Apparently he knew I had potential that I could do something in the program and life in the future. This person inspired me in so many ways he also motivated me to do something with my life so he made a very big impact on me for many reasons. The first reason for why he inspired me is because he taught me to never give up. In the beginning I used to give up all the time even in academics if I could not understand something I would give up. One day I had the courage to try out for the Armed Drill team in order to make it on the team you have to have a drill evaluation by your commander which to me it was easy but the second part it was the 30 min physical training session also known as the PT session or the Slayer as we used to call it as Cadets. When I did my session it was very difficult I gave up so I did not make the team I left the practice early and apologize to Chief who was the coach he told me to stay he wanted to talk to me after practice. He told me that I have so much potential that I could make it to the Crimson Knights which it was the elite armed drill team, he said but it all starts here with the basics. When I tried again of course it was tough I was sweating and cramping I was at the verge of giving up again he yelled at me and said “don’t give up Gamez pain is temporary if you give up it lasts...

...The emphasis on knowledge, service, and information in the new economy creates space for more new firms to emerge, and exerts pressures on existing companies to hire employees with higher level skills in order to compete successfully. The increased demand for a highly skilled workforce has contributed to the rising importance of obtaining a college education. However, recent studies indicate that newly hired college graduates do not excel in these higher-level knowledge and information based skills at the level that employers desire. Entrepreneurs have also indicated that the shortage of highly skilled workers inhibits the growth and development of new entrepreneurial firms. In response to this there have been multiple calls for educators at all levels to recognize the challenges and opportunities in today’s economy and to ensure that students develop the “21st century” knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) they need. A closer look at these 21st century KSAs alongside research and data on entrepreneurial competencies reveals a meaningful overlap between the two. This overlap can be developed into a useful heuristic to determine appropriate outcomes for assessment of undergraduate entrepreneurship programs. Sample outcomes and program assessment processes are illustrated and discussed. INTRODUCTION As the “new” economy of the 21st century continues to develop around knowledge, service, and information based activities, a company’s ability to create and commercialize ...

...doctor, lawyer, or whatever, everyone goes through tough times. Ever since, we can remember, health care has been the main focus for an individual having anything that is wrong with them, such as an illness or a disease, that isn’t preventable. People like this go through a rough time. They face a lot things, especially expensive medical bills, for any treatment. The worse thing about this is that the government is making it really hard for people, like this, to obtain any kind of medical insurance, which is very tough, because people, that can’t get any kind of insurance, doesn’t have a chance for any treatment, which everyone needs. In the following case study, I will explain the different situations that people face, every day and in this case, I will determine what a doctor, any medical personnel, or even a patient should do in any kind of health care situation. The following case is about a man named Jerry McCall, which is a doctor’s assistant. He has training as an LPN and a medical assistant. He has an issue and a decision to make. He is the only one in the office at the time and a man calls and wants a refill on some Valium, because he is leaving really quickly to go somewhere and he needs it. Well, since Jerry isn’t a doctor, he, still, has the training. This means, that with his training, he can work under the orders of the doctor and, sometimes, he does clerical work and this would allow him to be able to call in prescriptions for the doctor or, even write...

...Case study on ‘Two tough calls’ Summary of the case background The reporter of this case is a twenty seven year old woman (let’s call her ‘Susan’) who is the program manager for the soft goods at an online business firm(let's call it ‘ABC Groups’)that sold large varieties of consumer products. The ABC Groups was started by ex-Microsoft employees and right now they are facing a budget freeze. Susan's gives a better picture of the company’s existing culture and policies from her point of view throughout this case. Susan explains how she was disliked by other senior managers when she got promoted to managerial position from technical lead in just six months. She clearly states her distastes towards the egotistic attitude among the management and how she faced many push backs from other managers. The company has a performance rating policy according to which if an employee scores below three out of a highest scale of four, then he should attend a performance improvement plan (PIP) which is certainly the first step towards firing that person. Susan clearly states she wasn’t a fan of PIPs because she felt it was condescending. The bottom line of this case is the ethical and practical issues that Susan has to face in making a decision to terminate two poorly performing managers, Terry and Phil working in her group. Terry had worked previously in a company as an engineer on turbine design and was not hired to the company through the normal hiring process. Even though...
