...Views - President’s Message Spring has sprung in Southern Ontario and my mind races onward with ideas that I want to implement both at work and home. And what a better way to explore these ideas and develop some structure around them, than by hiring a person that is motivated, energetic, and able to acquire current knowledge easily. Yeah I know you are asking “Where do I get in line for someone like that?” Well what I have just described is a co-op student. I have my usual 2 co-op students already reserved and they will be starting in 3 weeks time. And let me tell you my whiteboard is filling with initiatives and ideas for these two to deal with. And with two facility management related college programs in the area (at Humber College and at Conestoga Collage) there are co-op students looking for jobs in the facility management field. If you want the contact information use the membership CD just sent to you and on the opening page are the hyperlinks for both of these institutions. This is the third year that IFMA Toronto has produced the membership CD rather than published a membership roster. There are, of course, issues with this year’s CD as there have been with every membership roster created in history I believe. Some of the problems are related to getting updated information about member. As an example when people renew their membership and if it is tardy the membership listing we acquire from Houston does not contain all of our known members. Other issues like which sponsors...

...Facility Planning – Considerations Elizabeth Theodorides February 23, 2015 Intro In this paper I will go over the topics of what is the regulatory requirtement and their effects on the design and equipment and colors sections and noise issues. Also the types of equipment needed examination of budget planning and cost estimates, and description of the role of stakeholders in facility planning and development. Regulatory Requirements Hospitals are among the most regulated of all building types. Like other buildings, they must follow the local and/or state general building codes. However, federal facilities on federal property generally need not comply with state and local codes, but follow federal regulations. For many years the health care system has experienced a continuing decline in the number of beds required for inpatients. As inpatient care is reduced, there is a corresponding trend toward increased outpatient health care. An outpatient clinic is less expensive to build and operate than a hospital. Space need not be devoted to "hotel functions" (the typical nursing units of hospitals), (WBDG) and the extensive dietetic and housekeeping areas that accompany them. Fire code requirements are considerably less demanding and mechanical and electrical systems can be simpler. Multiple shifts of staff are not required, since the building is usually closed at nights and on weekends, and housekeeping can take place after it is closed to patients and most staff, rather than...

...Ericka Maxa Wilson WR 122 November 13, 2014 Causal Analysis Final Draft Online Classes Have you ever taken an online class? Well, I have and personally I think they are amazing. They work out for people who have to keep a job full time and have the dreams of a college degree, because not everyone can make it to a lecture hall 2 or 3 times a week for lecture. Online classes give you so many opportunities, you can be the mom or dad you want to be, provide for your household, spend quality time with your family, all while you are doing are getting a degree to better yourself. Right now, I am a freshman in college and working part time. Online classes are helping me because when I am getting ready for bed I can crawl into bed, pull out my laptop, and do homework that is due that night or whenever. It gives me the opportunity to keep my job at the hospital and also work on getting a degree for my dream job. In my eyes, online classes are amazing and a true blessing for this world. I know there is a big difference from sitting behind a computer screen and being in a lecture sitting in front of an instructor, but, I believe that the quality is just the same. One major topic going around right now is, is online classes take over and replaces the traditional classroom settings, which are interesting because would we really get rid of all the teachers the United States has? Online classes give more people to opportunity to get the degree that they need or want to better themselves...

...planning. Every year over three million women, men, and teens visit Planned Parenthood associated medical centers to receive health care such as routine gynecological exams, breast and cervical cancer screenings, contraceptive services, abortion care, sexually transmitted infection/disease testing and treatment. According to Planned Parenthood, one out of five female Americans pays a visit to a Planned Parenthoodcenter throughout the course of her life (Planned Parenthood, 2014). Because Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization, it relies heavily on government funding to support its broad mission and programs. At the end of the 2014 fiscal year, it was revealed that Planned Parenthood health centers were recipients of $528.4 million in government funds. These funds were the largest source of income for the organization followed by private donors, charitable foundations, and non-government sources. With this being said, federal funding is absolutely essential to ensuring that Planned Parenthood’s program operations are successfully executed. Opponents of Planned Parenthood have rallied against federal funding, calling for a halt while Congress investigates the organization for its alleged practices surrounding fetal tissue extractions post abortion and their subsequent sale to research institutions. They are urging Congress to redirect current...

...their pregnancies. Yet, even four decades later, many women are still unaware that abortion is legal. Even access to safe abortion centres is severely restricted, especially in rural areas. As a result, there is a great mismatch between the number of abortion seekers and MTP-certified providers and centres. According to a 2008 study in Contraception journal, nearly three-quarters of abortion-certified facilities are in the private sector. Add to this the stigma and discrimination that women seeking abortion face, and it is not surprising that a large number of women still turn to unskilled providers to perform abortions using unsafe methods in unsuitable settings. In 2010-11, over six lakh abortions took place in government-approved institutions. The number of unsafe abortions taking place every year is not known. According to a 2008 WHO report, about “two thirds of all abortions” that take place in the country are outside authorised health facilities. As a result, abortions cause an estimated eight per cent of maternal deaths in India — a majority of which are due to unsafe procedures — according to the Registrar General of India’s data. To complicate the situation further, the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1994 meant to prevent sex determination to avert female foeticide can work at odds with the MTP Act. It cannot be denied that selective abortion of girls has been increasing in India. As per 2011 census data, the sex ratio of girls...

...I. Introduction 7 Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. In January 22, 1973 abortion was made legal. Many states made abortion illegal unless if it was to save a woman's life. That is why many women resorted to doing illegal abortions around that time. Abortion was finally legalized, supported by the right of privacy in the fourteenth amendment’s concept of personal liberty. Abortion is most often performed during the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. This research paper is about the benefits of abortion, it will analyze:eligibility, different options for abortion, and the number of women who abort; how it affects the mothers and the baby. II. Who is eligible to abort? 8According to www.bbc.co.uk “The important...

...Debate over Abortion in India Abortion was illegal in India until the Central Family Planning Board of the Government of India formed a committee to examine the subject from the medical, legal, social and moral standpoint. The committee was formed due to the fact that several Indian women were dying while attempting illegal abortions. An article from Time magazine states that in 2012 over 620,472 abortions were reported, not all of these were from women out of wedlock and it is said that every 2 hours a woman dies from malfunctioning abortion attempts. Many of these married women died in attempt to abort due to lack of finance, a means of transportation or because of stuff going on at home, also from not having access to sanitary facilities or the certified staff to conduct such procedures. The department of Public Health campaigns safe sex and contraception in order to prevent these unwanted pregnancies, but not everyone has access to these methods or because of age are embarrassed or don’t have the proper knowledge on the subject to even know exactly what to ask for. As of April 1st, 1972 India’s abortion laws were changed, it became legal to have them only by qualified doctors under stipulated conditions. India’s abortion laws fall under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act which was enacted in 1971. The act states that a pregnancy can be ended, or aborted, with the following qualifications; the women’s physical and/or mental health are endangered by the pregnancy...

...a few different differences and similarities between the small, medium, and large facilities when concerning the organization of patient records, charts and files as well as how they may handle loose reports. I seem to have noticed that most facilities including most small, medium and large facilities prefer that all of their loose records are to be permanently anchored within their patient charts so that they may be able to reduce the risk of those loose reports becoming misplaced and/or lost, which seems to make the most sense to me since this would be the best idea to prevent the loose reports from being misplaced and/or lost. However, the different sizes of facilities tend to organize patient files differently according to each particular facility’s policies. The most popular methods of organization that I have seen include chronologically, form numbers, report type, category and most recent. During my review of the interview threads, I have noticed a lot of similarities and a lot of differences in how patient files are organized between the many facilities which is leading me to believe that every facility has their own system. A system that may work for one facility does not work for another facility, especially when many facilities specialize in different medical areas. A small orthopedic facility may organize their patient’s files by last names where as a large hospital facility may organize their patient’s files by a numerical system they prefer and find to be...

...environment. One major area that arose from the Classical School of Thought is productivity and efficiency in the workplace [http://www.cliffnotes.com/study_guide/topicArticleId-8944,articleId-8851.html]. Managers were so much inclined to assign workers to areas that best fitted their expertise. This was in order to increase their productivity and efficiency in their various responsibilities. A facilities services provider, ISS, uses a system that effectively manages its workers and all facets of a worker’s responsibilities by placing the right people in the right positions, based on their qualifications (BOOTY, 2008). This is also evident in Faceo FM UK, according to its Chief Executive, Chris Kenneally. In his words, “Our focus has been on the sustainability of our customers and putting the right people in the right positions to deliver what the client wants, as evidenced in a turnover of £40m of the £250m made by its parent company in France, where the bulk of the business is” (PFM Journal, 2008). Bureaucracy is another important aspect of the Classical School of Thought (DAFT, 2005). Facilities management and Organizing go hand-in-hand, as the former cannot function effectively without the latter. A proper organizational structure gives room for...

...Assignment 4: Data Tech, Inc. Case Study BUS 515 August 31, 2012 In the real world of facility management (FM), an overabundance of activities fall under the facility manager’s responsibility, causing common lapses into a rash mode in order to respond to all the requests, orders, regulations, deadlines and demands of the organization. Facility managers know that the need to become more proactive and strategic is important, but finding the point in time to dedicate to strategic planning is often a struggle. Strategic facility planning recognizes that every decision made in business planning has a direct impact on an organization’s real estate assets and needs. The purpose of the SFP plan, therefore, is to develop a flexible and implementable plan based on the specific and unique considerations of the individual business. The company of Data Tech, Inc was started by Jeff Styles. Data Tech is a business that transfers hard copies of documents, such as invoices, bills, or mailing lists, onto CDs (John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 2010). As other companies move to a paperless environment, the placing of data on CDs was the wave of the future. Jeff had started the company in his two-car garage three years earlier by purchasing the essential software and signing of two large corporations as his first customers. At this point, he was about to sign on two additional corporate customers. All of a sudden what was a small garage operation was turning...

...Facility Management Name Institution Facility Management Facility management (FM) as an interdisciplinary field that is devoted to the coordination of space, people, infrastructure and the organisation aim at providing professional specialised services to the other units in the organisation. Facility management can be summarised as creation of the optimal environment for the organization's primary functions by taking an integrated view of the customer infrastructure that is used to deliver satisfaction to the customers. Facility management has developed to become a thriving business sector and a professional discipline in many countries (Zeithaml, Bitner & Gremler, 2009). The facility management has therefore become significant to various organisations and important in increasing the customer satisfaction with the management of supporting services. When it is well managed, it enables the business to function in a very effective and efficient manner by adding real value to the core business. Facility management has been elevated and is seen as being of strategic importance to the organisation by contributing to the business success or giving the business competitive advantage in the marketplace. The process of Aligning organisations Units When there is effective alignment between the facility management and the different actors in the primary process, the facility services provided will provide real value to the organisation's core business (Lexi &Joanna, 2009). They conducted the research to the best of their ability and worked very hard to perfect the research as well as possible. Their merits are thankworthy. ABSTRACT Our research was carried out to investigate the attitude of HUCFL Second- year English students toward the school facility protection and some solutions for school facility maintenance. Due to the important of school facilities in the cause of HUCFL’s education- training and its status quo, we carried out the small- scale research to examine main causes of HUCFL’s facility damage. We delivered 20 questionnaires randomly to the Second – year English students and we thereafter analyzed the data collected from those questionnaires. Based on the research findings, we had the clear understanding about the concerned reality of HUCFL’s school facilities and the close relationship between the lack of students’ awareness and the degraded quality of the facilities. What is more, we realized that the students’ responsibility for protecting the school facilities is the main...
