1: According to Ellis’s preface, explain what is so phenomenal about the founding of the United States?

Ellis’s found the founding of United States so phenomenal because it was very unlikely that the task would have a successful outcome. Ellis stated “ All the major accomplishments we unprecedented. Though there have been many successful colonial rebellions against imperial domination since the American Revolution, none had occurred before.” ( Page 6) This was amazing because it had never been successful before. The British was described to have the most powerful military force and was put together to defeat “ all national competitors” (page 6). It was like David against Goliath, it seemed like we had no chance of conquering independance. …show more content…
The long-term prospects were that an independence new nation was very likely. Short-term prospects were the advancements with the size and scale of the nation would be extremely overwhelming to the governing capacities. John Adams described the task as “impossible”.
3: Examine some of the criticisms of the Constitution Convention
In the book, the Constitutional Convention was criticized in many ways. It was criticized because “ the convention was extralegal”, “ its sessions were conducted in utter secrecy”, “ southern delegates used the proceedings to obtain several assurances that slavery would not be extinguished south of the Potomac” and that “ the machinery for ratification did not require the unanimous consent dictated by the Articles themselves” ( page 8). It is said that this is true.

4: Evaluate some of the problems that plagued the United States making it difficult to “build a nation?” In your opinion, which problem was most pressing?
