...How Will I Achieve my Goals? Imagine starting college for the first time after being out of high school for more than 11 years; sounds terrifying, right? It wasn’t school itself that was terrifying to me but entering a classroom. After two years, I am still trying to overcome this fear. Just the thought of having to speak in front of numerous other students is simply nerve racking. Not understanding things as well as others is another fear that I have from the result of being out of school for so long. My goal in life is to become a patient advocate by using my strengths in paying attention to detail, having compassion for others, and having strong leadership traits. Accomplishing these qualities will improve my weaknesses in communication and confrontation skills. Paying attention to detail will be very beneficial in my goal of becoming a patient advocate. The reason is that I am able to think outside the box, to see the big picture, and to have the ability to not let the little details go unnoticed. Most people can only see what is right in front of them, an attribute that is called tunnel vision. I, however, gather the less important details to help contribute to the bigger picture. For example, when my father passed away, I undoubtedly remember the actual circumstance; but I also remember the little details such as the weather, where I was and what I was doing when I found out, and the feeling that overcame me. This event in my life heightened my compassion...

...skills are essential in achieving career goals. Aside from work, writing is used in many other areas as well. Writing being of the importance that it is in today’s professional world, I would like to become more fluent in writing professionally. As a current student enrolled in Business Administration writing will be even more important in my career than it is now. There is always room for improvement. I would like to expand my knowledge of professional and/or formal writing. The more I am aware of the better I will become at writing. The better I am at writing the better I will be at my job. In grade schools you learn about punctuation and such. I would like to take that basic knowledge and expand it. Ideally, I would like to leave this class being able to place sentences and punctuations together in such a way that it is intriguing. Intriguing in such a way that my point is understood and persuasive if necessary. Given the career field I have chosen, it will be paramount that I can take a stand and make a difference. Any one person is able to take a stand. However, not everyone can adequately present their case in such a way that makes a difference. Whether it be about a business or an assignment for class, my goal is to be able to stand out. I would like to take away as much as I possibly can from this class in order to gain the knowledge to achieve my goal. As I am sure I am not alone, I would thoroughly enjoying expanding my vocabulary....

...Three concepts that will help me in completing my graduate degree In this lecture, I have gained insight into several strategies that will help me with the successful completion of my degree and achieve my career goals. Among the many, the three main concepts that I have learned in this lecture, which have appealed to me the most as a means to successfully complete my graduate degree are: * Time management * Preview of assignments * and Lecture note taking. It is an essential component for the progress and successful completion of any course. We all have a set of goals, but all goals do not weigh the same importance. Managing time properly helps to prioritize goals, after which one’s daily routine can be organized to achieve these goals (“Time management guide”, n.d.). Procrastination of work is commonly seen when an individual fails to manage one’s time. Also, it is seen often times, that students, without proper time distribution, devote a lot more time than required to certain study activities, while many other important activities are neglected (“Time management guide”, n.d.). For a higher education degree, such as a Masters, time management plays a key role in every stage of the coursework. A sense of time is critical for the following: a. Setting aside time for self-study on a weekly basis. A timed self-study can help an individual to preview and review course materials. b. For assignments, it is critical to assess time carefully...

...Looking Towards the Future When I was younger my parents always taught my siblings and I to set individual goals for ourselves and family goals for everyone to achieve. We would each write down one or two goals on New Year’s Day and we would sit around the dinner table and read our goals to the rest of the family. After all 7 of us read our personal goad and goal for the family we then would go and put them on the fridge where they stayed for the majority of the year. When our goal(s) got accomplished we would cross it off or put a check by it. Of course when we were all younger our goals were definitely not as specific as they were when we got older. At the time I thought my parents making us do this was dumb and ridiculous but as I got older I realized what a blessing it was, and how much it truly did help in our family life, and personal life. Since I’ve had to set goals my entire life I have learned that by doing this it makes projects, assignments, daily life, etc. a lot less stressful because I know what I want to achieve, how I’m going to do it, and by when I will accomplish these goals. Goal setting is also psychologically healthy. It helps you feel more purposeful, and that can stave off a sense of stagnation and mental health issues like depression (http://vizedhtmlcontent.next.ecollege.com/pub/content/9ab3605a-5a33-4b14-8048-143db6e60251/Setting_SMART_goals.pdf). ...Personal Goals Diana Meldon HCS/301 February 12, 2013 Thomas P. Carras, MSEd Personal Goals Setting goals should not be just for school assignments but should be part of one’s everyday life. Developing goals gives people something to strive toward and allows an individual to keep going forward in life. Without goals, it is very easy to give up when things get rough. According to Bishop, Carter, and Kravitis (2011), “Setting goals involves defining what an individual is aiming for in both long-term and short-term time frames. Long-term goals are broader objective an individual wants to achieve over a long period, perhaps a year or more. Short-term goals are smaller steps that move an individual toward a long-term goal, making it manageable and achievable, piece by piece (p. 98). Smart Goals is a tool that helps to focus and create effective goals. Smart Goals is an acronym that consists of five steps: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time frame (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2011). Examples of using these acronyms for writing this paper are Specific – by receiving a B grade in every nursing class, Measurable – by completing each class for a step closer to receiving a degree, Attainable – by commitment and many hours of study, Relevant – achieving a B grade is not unrealistic with commitment and determination; the goal is to think positive and know that I can achieve anything, and Time frame – every five weeks completing a class The following are the...
