...Unit 2 Assignment 2 P4 There are many pieces of legislation that are put in place to protect and safeguard vulnerable people; like Mrs Naidoo. I am going describe five pieces of legislation and regulations, and explain how they safeguard vulnerable adults. The Care Standard Act 2002 The Care Standard Act is in place for anyone who receives care. These are the minimum standards by which every care provider must adhere to and are inspected on a regular basis. Its policies include giving patients the right to a choice of home, everyday living, activities, protection and administration of medicine. This legislation helps to direct care organisations regarding the protection of vulnerable adults. It does this by giving vulnerable individuals the right to a social life and to make sure all their needs are met, which will really help with their health and well being. For example this regulation could really help someone like Mrs Naidoo, who is not joining in social activities. She is being left out of social activities, which she has a right to and this means she is not getting any social life. Therefore, this piece of legislation really would help her. The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 The Disability Discrimination Act aims to end the discrimination that faces many people with disabilities. It gives people with disabilities rights in the areas of: • employment • education • access to goods, facilities and services, including larger private clubs...

...This paper will focus on the evolution of the juvenile justice system. More specifically, how the system changed, structurally and procedurally. The paper will cover if these changes resulted in a better more efficient juvenile justice system. These changes will be explained by showing how they did or didn’t help the juvenile justice system. The last thing being discussed is whether or not the juvenile justice system still acts in the best interest of the juvenile. The paper will also discuss how the system is or isn’t acting in the best interest of the juveniles. To be able to talk about the evolution of the juvenile justice system, one must start at the beginning. The first juvenile court was created in 1899, in Cook County, Illinois (Bates...

... The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) is the principal federal program through which the federal government sets standards for juvenile justice systems at the state and local levels. It provides direct funding for states, research, training, and technical assistance, and evaluation. The JJDPA was originally enacted in 1974 and even though the JJDPA has been revised several times over the past 30 years, its basic composition has remained the same. Since the act was passed in 1974, the JJDPA focused solitary on preventing juvenile delinquency and on rehabilitating juvenile offenders. Since the original enactment of the JJDPA in 1974, the periodic reauthorizations have been controversial, as the Act's opponents have sought to weaken its protections for youth, reduce prevention resources, and encourage the transfer of youth to the adult criminal justice system. The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act follow a series of federal protections, known as the "core protections," on the care and treatment of youth in the justice system. The four "core protections" of the act are, the Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders (DSO), Sight and Sound separation, Jail Removal, and Disproportionate Minority Confinement (DMC). The "DSO" and "Sight and Sound" protections were part of the original law in 1974. The "Jail Removal" provision was added in 1980 in response to finding youth incarcerated in adult facilities resulted in "a high suicide rate, physical...

...Well Doc, I don’t quite know what to do. I haven’t been able to sleep, and when I do get the privilege of sleep it only lasts for a few hours before I wake up due to a dramatic nightmare. So many bad things had happened on that island, so many bad things that I cannot get out of my mind. No matter how much I try to forget about it I just keep reliving what had gone on. I need your help; I don’t know how long I can go on like this. I learned a lot about myself and others, sadly I don’t know if I like it. When the plane crashed on the island I thought I was with the most able bodied kids to help all of us survive. We were all from a higher end academy and had vast knowledge in miscellaneous subjects. Also, we were probably the most mature kids for are age, coming from the U.K of course. Yet, I was wretchedly wrong. One thing I found out about those kids is that naturally humans are savages. Another boy on the island, Simon, was viciously murdered because we were all dancing and in the moment and acting wild. Looking back on this event I don’t remember much of what went on except the fact that we killed an innocent boy just because we were dancing and having fun. That was not the only time I saw savagery. It happened when Jack and his hunters killed the sow. They didn’t just kill a pig for food, the vindictively and ruthlessly murdered a pig. The kill of the pig seemed as if to give them a high. The hunters were in awe of the fact that they could dominate another...

...Juvenile crime issues in the criminal justice system can be just as complicated as dealing with adults, but the punishments are not as defining as it is for adults. Many individuals believe that when a juvenile goes to court and is punished for his delinquent acts, the people think that that is too harsh; but when the adults go to their court hearings and their punishments are set, people tend to think that that is too lenient. It always depends on the situation, regardless of where or when the act took place; they look at several key factors when deciding the punishment that is suitable for that particular crime. The criminal court system is basically the same, they attempt to better the individuals that have made mistakes in their past by sending them to institutions that will help teach them the difference between what is right and what is wrong. The difference between a juvenile court and an adult court consists of several different perspectives. One of the differences is the terminology used during the court cases, another is the leniency given to the juveniles rather than disciplining them by making an example out of them. Adult court relies on the retribution rather than “cutting them a break”. Juvenile crimes are not prosecuted but better known as “delinquent acts”, and if the crime is considered bad enough, they will try the juvenile as an adult; other times, they are fined, sentenced to a detention center, or sometimes both of the occasions. With juveniles, the cased...

...Television has been associated with influencing controversial acts since the beginning of its creation. One of the most recent acts that television is being blamed for is the violence associated Columbine High School murders in 1999 [ (Updated: TV and Film Violence Reaches a New High, 2011) ]. Many adults enjoy the entertainment of bad cop versus good cop, as well as the violent acts that are performed by both parties to get to the bottom of the case. However, are shows like CSI, Blue Bloods and Law and Order responsible for the violent acts done in society? Is there a connection between these shows and children who commit horrendous acts of violence? According to Leonard Eron, Senior Research Scientist at University of Michigan, “Television alone is responsible for 10% of youth violence” [ (Media Violence: Facts & Statistics) ]. There needs to be stricter laws to help eliminate many hours of television violence on air. This is a community effort in which action must be taken now. The government should have stricter policies in place for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to regulate. The FCC should be regulating television violence like they regulate sex, nudity and foul language. Television is an enjoyable time for most families. It has been used in many ways to assist parents in their everyday routines. The option of television allows many parents to sit their kids in front of a box and complete tasks like work from home or preparing dinner. Children watch on average...

It never says in the story ¨racism is bad¨ or anything like that, so it is up to the reader to interpret the message the author is writing about and it could possibly be interpreted in different ways. There are three themes in the story that make it meaningful and a good story. And these themes are all somehow related to each other and add detail to each other. The three themes are racism, the corruption of adults, and the innocence of children. In ¨The Secret Integration¨, racism plays a big role in developing the...

...“I act quite young for my age sometimes. I was sixteen then, and I'm seventeen now, and sometimes I act like I'm about thirteen.” (Salinger 9). In the novel “The Catcher in the Rye” the main character Holden Caulfield struggles between acting like an adult and acting like a child. Whether he’s out avoiding all of his problems or he’s trying to get a waiter to bring him an alcoholic drink even though he is under age, Holden acted like a child. Holden is seventeen during the time he is telling us about the things he did when he was sixteen and throughout the whole novel he is continuously doing childish things. In chapter six when his roommate, Stradlater, had come home from his date with Jane, Holden was purposely trying to annoy Stradlater by calling him a moron. He knew Stradlater did not like being called a moron so he said it as a sort of defense, not only did he start calling names but he also tried to bunch Stradlater. Holden resorted to calling names and physical contact when he could have just as easily told Stradlater that he did not like the idea of him going out with Jane....

...well. This is because advertisements are not the main reason people take up smoking. Another reason is that the cigarette industry has gotten around the ban by using forms of hidden advertising and corporate sponsorship. The cigarette industry also relies on the printing media to advertise its product. Smoking has become influential to both teens and adults due to many different forms of advertising. Up until 1971, cigarettes had been advertised like all other products, but health concerns led to a government-imposed ban on broadcast advertising. In April of 1970, congress passed the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act, which banned the advertisement of cigarettes on radio and T.V. It also required a stronger health warning on cigarette packages, saying “Warning: The Surgeon General Has Determined that Cigarette Smoking Is Dangerous to Your Health”. [1]This government-imposed ban was executed on January 2, 1971. [1] Although this Act did not stop Smokeless tobacco ads, a second ban took effect on august 28, 1986 banning all smokeless tobacco ads. [2] In 1984 the Comprehensive Smoking Act was implemented by the congress. This act was put in place by the federal trade commission to control the size, wording and application of warning requirements on tobacco products. [4] All tobacco packages were to have one of the following labels: “SURGEON GENERAL’S WARNING: Smoking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphysema, And May Complicate Pregnancy” or “SURGEON GENERAL’S WARNING: Quitting...

...childhood and adulthood by talking about Allie and holding on and that's his childhood. His adulthood is what he fears to enter, because he's scared to grow up but he acts like an adult. He can't get over allie's death we see this because he still talks about him and he wrote a paper about Allie for Stradlater's composition paper. He acts like an adult but he doesn't want to have the same life like every other adult. One way he likes like an adult is he drinks like one. He represents what most other kids feel when they're growing up. Holden is poisoned to entering the adult world even know he acts like one but he just doesn't want to face that he's growing up. We see him acting like an adult when he curses throughout the story because we all know that if someone curses it's cool and that's what adults do. He says “Sonuvabitch”, “Crap, “Damn” and “Goddamn”. In chapter 7 holden says sleep tight ya morons! He always calls people morons he even says “morons don't like it when you call them morons” in chapter 6. ...are the exception. For analogy purposes, let's look at the lioness and her cubs. She brings the cubs with her on hunts, allows them to stalk the prey and sometimes, even allows them to initiate the kill. She expects them to exhibit adult lion behavior, while never letting them take the full responsibility yet. Why? Because they still don't know what they're doing. They only know what they've learned thus far. She still needs to teach them the finer points of being an adult lion, before they are ready to be treated like one. Human teenagers, like the lion cubs, know what they are supposed to do up to a point, but still require more teaching, guidance and object learning, before they can be treated like adult humans. I'm fairly certain that as you've grown, your mother stopped holding your hand when you crossed the street. She stopped cutting your food up for you. She started letting you dress and clean yourself. These are all steps toward adulthood, requiring you to act in an adult capacity, while still acknowledging that you are a child and still in need of teaching before you can act in full adult capacity. The faster you learn and the more responsibility that you show your parents you can handle, the more they will treat you like an...
