...$5,619. The penalty could be 0.5% per month (or fraction thereof) up to a maximum of 25% for failure to pay the taxes that where due. If Paul penalty would have been 0.5% the amount owed would be $7,866.60 {$5,619 + $2247.60 (5,619*0.05*8)} or could be up to a maximum of $16,857 {$5,619 + $11,238 (5,619*0.25*8)}. Also the IRS could impose an interest charge per day of 3%, as of the last interest table (interest change every 3 month). As for problem 1-47 the IRS can audit Dan tax return but they have to meet certain criteria. The IRS has a 3 year statute of limitation but there are 3 exceptions to that limitation: * The IRS has six years from the date a return is filed to audit a tax return and to assess additional tax if the taxpayer omits income that amounts to more than 25% of income that was reported on the tax return. * The IRS also has six years to audit a tax return and assess additional tax on income related to undisclosed foreign financial assets if the omitted income is more than $5,000. * The statute of limitations on audits and assessing additional tax remains open indefinitely if the taxpayer files a false or fraudulent tax return. Therefore the IRS can audit Dan 2010 tax return because it falls within the 3 year limitation. The IRS can also audit Dan 2008 because he failed to report $40,00 of income and that is more than 25% of his income in 2008( income of $60000*.25= $15,000) as for the 2003 tax return...

...Madeleine McCann, the British toddler who vanished from her family’s vacation apartment in Portugal in 2007, may be alive, according to detectives conducting a review of the investigation. Scotland Yard made the announcement on Wednesday, noting that officers reviewing the case discovered up to 200 new items for investigation using existing evidence. “We genuinely believe there is a possibility that she is alive,” Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood from Scotland Yard’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command told reporters. (MORE: Case Closed for the McCanns?) The review team is now combing through evidence and reports from Portuguese authorities, inquiries held by U.K. law enforcement agencies, and the work of private investigators hired by the McCann family. In a statement released this morning, Scotland Yard said the existing evidence includes around 40,000 pieces of information. “We are working on the basis of two possibilities here,” Redwood said. “One is that Madeleine is still alive; and the second that she is sadly dead.” Hoping that she is alive and well, police have issued an age progression image of Madeleine, who would be nine years old. Madeleine was three when she disappeared in the resort town of Praia da Luz, and her cause became one of Britain’s most famous missing persons cases. Celebrities like David Beckham appealed to the public for information regarding Madeleine’s whereabouts. Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, secured an audience with the Pope and...

He also questions whether or not, thousands of "people" die by lack of adoption, because if they are not adopted they will lack certain cognitive experiences. Neurologically, a person is defined as someone with a detectable brain wave, which develops in a fetus at approximately 25 weeks. He argues that until 25 weeks, a fetus is not considered a person because they lack brain waves. (Pence, pg...

...Icon Analysis: Johnny Depp Mikael Stoffer Baker College of Owosso Icons are recognized everywhere from producer, actor, model, worker, the list could go on forever because icons are anyone who is very successful and recognized widely as a symbol. An Icon has to be someone who is admired and considered successful to not only one person, it has to be a good chunk of people who can all agree that they are considered an icon to many people. But there are few people who would be considered an icon in the invention field because so many people are inventing things nowadays. But there will always be a set of people that come to mind when thinking of those few people in such a big field of interest like inventing, Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Bill Gates, the list could go on till you do not recognize anyone else. With actors there are plenty to choose from because actors can play many roles and be considered the star of the show or movie but even a side character can be considered an icon because they lifted spirits in a movie, but in most cases it is because they played so many roles. I’m going to be analyzing an actor that has so many roles he is considered to be Hollywood’s man of a thousand roles (Skillern, M.). His name is Johnny Depp, and he has played many eccentric and villainous roles that he is widely considered an icon throughout the entire acting community. Johnny Depp is the icon of Hollywood’s actors, one of the top 10 fashion icons and could be many...

One must collect data that will help to deliver the material at each level of understanding in an audience with such diverse roles. We are dealing with a different culture and background from our own with many different beliefs as well. The needs of the affected families involved with the "Chilean Mine Collapse" were assuredly sensitive and great caution was needed in communicating with them. Imagine a young mother and wife of one worker just sitting at home and sees the news of her husband's mine collapsing and not knowing any more details. All sorts of thoughts start to race through her head, is he dead, is he alive, why did this happen? The company now has the responsibility to inform such family members of the affected miner's situation and provide necessary details and support. The family has...

...of Engineering, Shivaji Nagar, University of Pune, , India akirti2008@gmail.com, k_adoni@rediffmail.com 2 College of Engineering, University of Pune, India rdj.extc@coep.ac.in ABSTRACT Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) eliminates the complexity associated with an infrastructure networks. Wireless devices are allowed to communicate on the fly for applications. It does not rely on base station to coordinate the flow of the nodes in the network. This paper introduces an algorithm of multipath OLSR (Optimized Link State Routing) for energy optimization of the nodes in the network. It is concluded that this solution improves the number of nodes alive by about 10 to 25% by always choosing energy optimized paths in the network with some increase in normalized routing overheads. KEYWORDS OLSR, multipath, Energy Optimization, Nodes Alive, Overheads 1. INTRODUCTION A Mobile Adhoc NETwork (MANET) is a multi-hop, distributed and self configuration network[1].The communication between two distant nodes is through the number of intermediate nodes which relays the information from one point to another. As nodes can move randomly within the network, routing packets between any pair of nodes become a challenging task. A route that is believed to be optimal for energy utilization at certain time might not be optimal at all, few moments later.[4] Traditional proactive routing protocols[3,5] maintain routes to all nodes. Even if traffic is unchanged, repeated topology interaction happens...

...Here is my evaluation of Melissa, a 25 year old woman who was brought into my care unconscious and unresponsive after an automobile accident. When she was given an EEG there was no evidence that the mammalian part of her brain had any action potentials. With further investigation, we have seen AP in her primitive or reptilian part of her brain and that is why Melissa is still breathing with help of respirator and her heart rate is within normal range. Her Cortex obtained major damage in her frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal lobes and shut down all neuron activity in Melissa’s brain. Meaning her brain is producing no electrical impulses, or impulses that indicate it can-support life. A person in this state has no thoughts, and no chance of ever having thoughts again, and can only be kept alive with constant care by medical staff and machinery. Melissa has brain death and will no longer be able to be herself ever again she is accentually dead, as the Melissa you know died the minute her Cortex was damaged and her neurons stopped producing electrical currents. This patient is only breathing and her heart beating because the reptilian part of the base of the brain is still sending out life supporting neurons to keep these basic functions going. This is not to be mistaken for a coma,if she was lucky enough to endure this kind of brain damage, she may be able to stay alive and regain some of her traits that make up who Melissa is. There are no guarantees that if Melissa did...

...Thirty-three workers became trapped during a Chilean copper mine collapse near the northern town of Copiapó, Chile on August 5, 2010. The tragedy captured the attention of media, and audiences, around the world alike. Once reported, hopes and prayers went out the trapped workers, the workers families and the rescue workers from the hearts of many. During severe heart-wrenching incidents, such as this, it is important to consider the roles of those involved. The potential needs of the workers, whose lives were at stake, and the needs of their families become extremely important when discussing the incident. It is important to know how to address everyone involved while considering their needs. Waking up on August 5, 2010 was no different from any other day for these workers. The miners kissed and hugged their family members before heading off to work in the Chilean copper mine. The day had been the same as the day before for the miners. Close to the time for the miners to take their lunch break, the tunnel collapsed leaving them trapped 300 meters below ground level. Other miners feared that the thirty-three miners still inside the mine were in the disaster zone when the collapse happened. The workers that were trapped had to have been scared not knowing if they were ever going to be able to see loved ones again. For 16 days, the workers had no communication from the outside world, and no way for the outside world to communicate back to them. Fear, itself is scary, but fear...

...Reactions to the Fire: Triangle Shirtwaist Company On March 25, 1911 a deadly fire broke out on the ninth floor of a clothing warehouse called the Triangle Shirtwaist Company. Out of five hundred employees working, (mostly young women), one hundred and forty six had died as a result of the fire. The survivors of the fire were left to relive those agonizing moments over and over in their heads. How could such a horrible disaster occur? The images of people leaping from ninth story windows to their death because they did not want to burn alive would forever haunt the victims and the people of New York City. Employees of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company mostly had been young women, some as young as fifteen years old, and most were Jewish and Italian immigrants hoping for a better life no matter how bad working conditions were (http://www.ilr.cornell.edu/trianglefire/story/fire.html). The Triangle fire was the perfect example of how inadequate fire prevention had been back in 1911, not enough fire escapes, doors had been locked, fire escapes were not functional, many problems had captured after this tragic fire erupted. When the fire did erupt, firefighters arrived to the scene with inadequate ladders, most of the ladders were too short to even reach the ninth story. After the fire had subsided, many people were furious and took to the streets protesting for better working conditions, workers went to the unions hoping for a change to occur and also demanding that...

...UNIT1 Possible Essay Questions HOW ESSAY QUESTIONS ARE GRADED: The essay questions do not necessarily have "right" and "wrong" answers. You are graded on your ability to USE the information you have learned in class. There may be multiple ways of answering the questions. To earn full credit, the information you present from class must be accurate, you may not ignore major concepts which contradict your argument, and your reasoning must be sound. WARNING: Do NOT get your answers from the internet ‐ these answers are usually WRONG because the responder is not in this class. They are providing answers using different information. 1. Some political figures have dismissed Evolution or Climate Change as "just a theory." Explain why this phrase is inaccurate. Because it is a scientific theory---strongest explanation supported by a large body of scientific research with minimal influence of humans. There is evidence to prove it. 2. Some people argue that extinction is normal and happens with or without humans (which is accurate). So why are scientists so concerned with extinction? [ Be specific. Give at least 2 reasons with empirical evidence.] Extinction is normal but we are currently in the Holocene extinction period and 100-1000 times as man species are going extinct every year than the normal “background” extinction. We are at a period where 10,000-100,000 species go extinct every year. The normal is 10-100 species per year. 3. Damian eats a bowl...
