“I’ll smoke my last cigarette,” he said to his wife. “Stupid of me, it was the one thing I forgot to bring back from the farm.” He reached for it, switched on the silent wireless. He threw the empty packet on the fire, and watched it burn. As it burned he took a deep breath feeling a sort of calm, feeling that everything is over but deep in his heart he knew that those birds were going to come back. And at that moment he heard a tapping on the door. Once more, just like the beginning, and he turned his head around as fast as he could and peered at the door. He grabbed his rifle, marched towards the door, put a stern hand on the handle and pulled the door open with all the strength he could. Nat was furious! However when he opened the door he saw nothing there, except one small bird. His wife now behind him said, “ that is no harm to us at all, calm down Nat. Its just one small bird… actually not even a bird its only a chick.” Nat, now calm says, “ well thats true he doesn’t look like any harm.” and with that the bird made one small chirp and a swarm of majestic large birds swarmed into their home. Attacking both Nat and his wife. Screaming, the two ran as fast as they could heading towards the children but the birds had already got to them… blood splattered everywhere, on the walls, on the sheets, and the children lay there ripped to shreds from these disgusting, evil, birds. A large shrill scream came from Nat’s wife with one look at her kids and she collapsed to the floor. Nat now in a state of panic, rushed and closed the door to the room thinking of what he could possibly do next to save his wife and himself. He thought long and carefully, Nat decided that this is his fate and aloud he said, “ I will die, but I will not die without a fight” slowly making his hand into a fist. And with that the birds blew open the door and looked Nat straight into the eyes and went for it. Nat tried his hardest to protect himself and his wife but it was already too late… his eyes were swollen and scratched in seconds. Blood seemed to just gush out of everywhere, pain struck him as if a knife in every part of his body. And they both die

Since the male-dominated society considered women’s tasks less important than men’s, men treated women with a lack of consideration. In the 20th century drama “Trifles,” Glaspell challenges the suppression in effect during her lifetime, basing the play on a series of news stories she wrote about the real-life court case of a woman prosecuted for murdering her husband. In “Trifles,” Glaspell uses symbolism to show that male sexism causes a lack of empathy which leads to men’s failures as much as it does women’s. 'Neglect' is defined as 'the state of being uncared for' and within Jane Eyre, neglect is a constant theme. This is evident in the way Jane is neglected from childhood, and how this has a knock-on effect on the way she behaves throughout the rest of her life. Other minor characters such as: Adela Varens, Mrs Fairfax and Bertha are victims of neglect. Through language, structure and the form of the novel Bronte creates an air of isolation. This in turn emphasises, primarily, Jane's neglect. The main way in which this is explored throughout Jane Eyre is how the main protagonist finds herself in states of constant isolation in every main stage of her life. It can be said that, essentially one of Jane's main aims during her journey through life is to finally experience reciprocated love and care, that lasts.  Jane was arguably at her height of neglect during her childhood years and it is here that Bronte is able to present it most effectively. In the third stanza, theauthor writes, “‘Open then the Door!/ You know how little while we have to stay,/ And, once departed, may return no more.” There’s several refrains to this throughout the poem, first in the seventh stanza: “Come, fill the cup. . ./ The Bird of Time has but a little way/ To flutter-and the bird is on the Wing.” The entire ninth stanza describes the summer month “that brings the Rose” taking “Jamshyd and Kaikobad away”, and so forth and so on ad nauseum. Again, in the fifty-third stanza: “You gaze To-Day, while You are You-how then/ Tomorrow, You when shall be You no more?” The poet seems to be in an incredible hurry to get this life going before some cosmic deadline comes due, and more than willing to encourage any of the laiety he encounters in the course of the poem to do the same.
