...Alternatives for conventional cancer therapies are on the rise. They treat cancer in safer ways. People mostly decide on alternative cancer medicine as a last resort after conventional methods have failed, or when they are too weak after a series of conventional treatments to take another. These therapies should be integrated with conventional treatment and not only as a last resort. One such therapy is with dichloroacetate (DCA) which is sodium salt from dichloroacetic acid obtained as a by-product of the chlorination of municipal drinking water. It is an inexpensive and nearly harmless chemical which has also been used for the treatment of diabetes in the last twenty years. In 2007, University of Alberta discovered that DCA causes death of cancer cells without affecting the healthy cells. According to Medicor Cancer Centers Inc., which treated patients who were drained after conventional cancer treatment using DCA treatment, 60% reacted progressively to the DCA therapy with reversible effects. The cost of treatment in Medicor Cancer Centers Inc. is between $160 and $190 weekly with about $75 monthly for supplements which manage the side effects during the therapy. It is cheaper than conventional cancer treatment. Many people use the therapy in their own home, to lower costs, but it is better to have a doctor who can control side effects which are reversible under supervision. ...Alternative Cancer Treatments According to “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention” (2013), “Each year globally, 12.7 million people learn they have cancer, and 7.6 million people die from the disease” (para. 1). Cancer treatments can be affective, depending on the type and level of the cancer. Doctors often offer different treatment options to patients. Most of these treatments include medications that can affect the body in a harmful way in attempt to kill the cancer. Many patients are starting to look for alternative treatments. There are no conventional or alternative treatments guaranteed to cure a patient from cancer. A major concern about alternative treatments is its use as a false lure to a cure. Although there is no cure for cancer, alternative treatments may prove to be helpful along with conventional treatment as cancer becomes more common. To understand how alternative treatments can assist cancer patients along with their conventional treatments, we must first ask what cancer is, and how it can affect the human body. According to “National Cancer Institute” (2013), “Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues” (para. 1). As cancer cells continue to divide, they can also spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. These abnormal cells can cause some major issues throughout the body. A broad spectrum of non-specific cancer symptoms can include a nagging...

...Homeopathy: An alternative means of Treatment Nicoline Lami Edie Langston University Introduction Homeopathy is an alternative medicine developed more than 200 years ago in Germany at the end of the 18th century by Dr Samuel Hahneman. This natural healing system is based on the theory “of like cures like” wherein an actual substance that produces symptoms in a healthy person can stimulate self-healing of similar symptoms in a sick person. Plants, minerals and animals are compounded into different forms such as ointment gels, drops, creams and tablets. The word homeopathy comes from the Greek word; “homeos”, which means similar and “pathos”, meaning disease (Wyatt, Sikorskii & You, 2013, p. 34). Our rationale for choosing this topic is our desire to broaden our knowledge on the intricacies of homeopathy. It is a concept that eludes us as nursing students. As people who collectively have as final goal to provide health care to the population in general, it will be of interest to know what other forms of complementary medicines our clients are using. In addition, people who use homeopathic medicine do so while still actively seeking the services of medical practitioners or cannot afford conventional medicine or better still because it is a practice that has been handed to them from generation to generation. According to Zimmerman (2012), 30% of nurse-midwives in North Carolina recommended Statistical data suggest that homeopathy is a well-known...

...Alternative Cancer Treatment by Tammy Willingham-Loomis Alternative Cancer Treatment A diagnosis of cancer affects the patient, family and friends. The individual may feel uncertain, scared, numb, confused or angry because of the cancer diagnosis. The person may mentally shut down, have difficulty listening, remembering and even understanding what the doctor said. Many people that have a cancer diagnosis may have 5 years left to live or even less (American Cancer Society, 2014). James "Rhio" O'Connor was no different when he was given no more than a year for survival after receiving a diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer. Rhio’s chosen path in fighting this deadly disease allowed him an additional six years with his family and friends (O’Connor, 2014). Treatment can be expensive, painful and make the individual feel sick. Feeling scared and trapped people often seek out anyone that may offer a cure for their cancer (American Cancer Society, 2014). Rhio was no different; creating a controversial treatment protocol that consisted of minerals, vitamins, fruits and vegetable components. Rhio’s lifestyle changed and a vegetarian diet was consumed with foods high in herbs, amino acids, necessary fatty acids, enzymes, and Rhio practice mind over body medicine (O’Connor, 2014). Many individual’s diagnosed with cancer travel to Mexico seeking natural holistic cancer treatments that are not FDA approved. Clinics and institutes in Mexico offer holistic cancer treatments. These...

...Abby Baker Instructor: Donna Ewing BIOL 1408-87 17 July 2015 ADHD – Alternative Treatments for Children Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a syndrome that involves behavior that is impulsive and inattentive with motor restlessness and abnormal energy levels. Children diagnosed with ADHD have differences in the frontal lobes of their brain compared to those who do not have the disorder (Austin, Staats, and Burgdorf). Experts consider ADHD a condition that has no cure and it is generally treated with stimulant medications. These medications act quickly to reduce the impulsive and inattentive behaviors associated with ADHD. However, these medications can have side effects, while improvements in academic achievement and interpersonal relationships are small (Conners). There are options for parents who want to explore alternative therapies for ADHD that are long lasting but with fewer side effects. Therapies such as neurofeedback, “green-time,” Cogmed Working Memory Training, and fish-oil supplements for ADHD offer parents a choice to move away from or use in combination with medications. Neurofeedback, sometimes called EEG biofeedback, is based on the concept that the brain produces different brain waves according to the type of brain activity associated with current mental states. A focused and attentive state will produce different brain waves than an excited or drowsy state. Research indicates that the frontal lobe areas in an ADHD brain have low levels...

...operations and formulates a discussion as to the surrounding outcomes that the prohibition of CSG operations would have on the Australian industry if this proposition were to be approved. This is mentioned through several key areas, which are: the economic and environmental value of CSG to the Australian economy, the effects of a proposed policy ban on the industry as well as the effects of such a ban on surrounding companies. An alternative policy will be put forth to ensure the government’s main objective of the protection of the natural environment is able to coexist with CSG projects in the future. The report will conclude with recommendations that the government should consider with the alternative policy. Conclusion (100) In conclusion it is evident that the proposed policy by the government “to ban all Coal Seam Gas (CSG) projects to protect farms, nature reserves and ground water” is flawed and would have detrimental effects on the mining industry and companies associated with CSG extraction. To address these negative impacts an alternative policy has been created with the aim of ensuring the coexistence of CSG projects, farms, nature reserves, and ground water. Some recommendations are offered below to aid in minimizing the effects on the industry and relevant companies...

...For the past couple of months I have been working at Fun House pizza in Lee's Summit, MO as a cook. My goal has been to save up around $4,000 and then sell my 2002 SS Monte Carlo so I can buy a new car. So the time comes to where I have enough money saved to sell the Monte Carlo. I come to the decision that I could get the most money if I post it on craigslist so I did and within an hour I got a cool from someone who wanted to buy the car so I sold the Monte Carlo later on that afternoon, but when I sold it I forgot to take my plates off the car which at that point in my life did not know mattered. Alright now I got all they money I had earned and I was looking for a new vehicle. I looked around a couple of days for a SUV and I found a 2004 sport ford explorer. I wanted to go look at the SUV so I asked a buddy of mine if he would take me out to Compass Motors in Kansas City and he agreed. He comes to pick me up and we head out to Compass Motors we arrived and I got to drive the SUV around and I thought it was good so I bought it. I soon found out that was a mistake when I later on arrived home and showed it to my father, grandfather, and my mother who all told me that I had made the wrong decision and needed to return the SUV and would be lucky to get my money back. That next morning me, my father, and grandfather all went back down to Compass Motor to talk to the man who sold me the car to go get my money back. Me and my father go into the store and talked to the man who sold...

...towards my decision problem: To pursue the path of the ‘Corporate Ladder’; one of a simplistic, ‘bare bones’, and uncomplicated lifestyle that I have in Columbus, OH (aka “Cowtown”)? I have hit the mid-life checkpoint and desire to have a plan in place so that it does not evolve into the proverbial mid-life ‘crisis’. My decision for this problem is based on objectives that meet my physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual wishes and goals. Among the alternatives I considered, I selected “Relocating/Transferring to another state with my current company” . I believe this alternative will provide an ideal mix of consequences and benefits such as flexibility, opportunity, challenge, short-term change and long-term sustainability, ability to modify the decision and its subsequent outcomes; as well as acceptable tradeoffs. The primary factors that led me to this selection are that this alternative lends itself to buying more time and gathering information to determine if this alternative is, in fact, the best alternative for me. This method helps to mitigate risk, but more importantly achieves my fundamental objectives, which were the determining factors for my decision selection. Problem Statement The nature of my decision problem is that of a life choice—the path I desire to construct for myself heading into the future—what my career choice(s) will be, overhauling and simplifying my priorities, getting rid of the dross. At first glance, this may first appear to be too...
