Shepard Fairey made the Barack Obama “Hope” poster supporting his presidential campaign. He made it “illegally” because he had no permission from the campaign to make them and distribute them, but it immediately became an inspiring iconic picture that represented the campaign. At first Fairey made the picture as a poster and sold many prints on the street. The Obama campaign stated they were not involved in the making of the poster at all. The original had the word “PROGRESS”. The campaign asked Fairey to change the word to “HOPE”. After the revision, the campaign openly used it to promote their campaign.
