Moreover, due to the famine in Chikatilo’s village, stories of cannibalism were common so much so that Chikatilo’s mother claimed his older brother Stepan was kidnapped, killed and eaten by starved villagers (Andrei Chikatilo, Criminal Minds Wiki, par 1).
