...The film Antwone Fisher is an autobiography directed by Denzel Washington, based on the life of a United States Navy sailor, named Antwone Fisher, with emotional problems and a violent temper that can often be triggered by rage. Essentially it can be concluded that the psychological and emotional problems Antwone experiences are what make him such a prime example of social determinism. When further examined, Antwone was more specifically influenced by early childhood trauma, his naval psychiatrist Dr. Jerome Davenport (Denzel Washington), and the emotional connection he makes with Cheryl (Joy Bryant) a fellow officer in the navy. As a child Antwone was frequently abandoned and abused; in the end, this ultimately affects his emotional and physical response to the people in his everyday life. His mother, Eva Mae Fisher, abandoned him after he was born and unknowingly sent him to a foster home in which Mrs. Tate, Antwone’s foster mother, abuses him and calls him derogatory names throughout the entity of his childhood. However it doesn’t stop there, as the movie progresses Mrs. Tate eventually kicks him out of the house and leaves him alone and starving out on the streets of Cleveland, but not before his childhood babysitter had her way with him. Antwone later reconnects with his...

...Movie Antwone Fisher MCPY 600 August 16th, 2007 The movie, Antwone Fisher is a wonderful and thought provoking film full of symbolism, pain, and hope. Antwone Fisher takes the audience through a journey of various subsystems of communities: prison, orphanage, foster care, homeless shelter, and the Navy. However a community encompasses more than a system. Community is ever changing, evolving, and interacting with the needs of the people developing into their own. Communities are influenced by environment, political climate, and economy. We watch Antwone Fisher dream of his perfect family, and the need he has to make a connection with his past. However, the journey he goes through with the help of his Psychiatrist, Dr. Davenport and his girl friend Cheryl, is trying, sometimes turbulent, and full of pit-falls. Antwone reaches his own epiphany when he learns who he is, meets his family, and is able to trust others while overcoming his fear of rejection and abandonment. As I watched the events unfold through Antwone’s eyes, I asked myself what specific influences kept him from turning to violence and crime on the streets. I find those answers by carefully examining the progression of events, Antwone’s choices, positive influences, as well as looking at the meaning and symbolism behind the scenes. The first scene of Antwone Fisher sets the tone for the character development throughout the movie. Antwone stands...

...Antwone Fisher In this report I will analyze the film “Antwone Fisher” using four standard categories to fully analyze this media product, these are cognitive, emotional, moral, and aesthetic. Cognitive is the mental process and thinking which can be something based on your knowledge of being able to interpret a media product or scene, or can be more complex as to knowing how some media products are created in limited ways in order for them to be successful. Emotional catches the feelings of a person and being able to accurately interpret those feelings. Some lower levels of emotion are those such as hate, fear, and lust and these are easy to interpret and most people know them. Some higher levels of emotions are ambivalence, angst, and confusion. The third standard category is moral, the ability to infer the values underlying the messages. Moral is concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character. ...Vander Burgt HRE-4M 3 October 2011 Antwone Fisher, Determined or Free? The film Antwone Fisher is an autobiographical drama based on the true story of Antwone Fisher’s problematic days growing up. Antwone Fisher (Derek Luke) is a sailor in the U.S. Navy with an explosive attitude, whom is ordered to see a naval psychiatrist, Dr. Jerome Davenport (Denzel Washington), about his volatile temper. Slowly Fisher begins to reveal the emotional problems that ultimately trigger this rage. The viewer learns that Antwone’s father was killed and his mother, subsequently ended up arrested and giving birth to Antwone in prison. Soon after, Antwone was sent to a foster home managed by Mr. And Mrs. Tate (Ellis Williams and Novella Nelson) where he was physically and mentally abused. The only support he received was from his best friend, Jesse (Jascah Washington) During his sessions, Antwone develops feelings for a fellow Naval officer, Cheryl (Joy Bryant) and starts to treat Dr. Davenport as the father figure he never had. Ultimately, Fisher begins the quest to find his real family with his newly found girlfriend, Cheryl. While viewing the film, one may begin to question whether Antwone is a product of free will or social determinism. Through Antwone’s past; the frequent abandonment from close one’s, consistent abuse in foster care and the lack of a supporting family, it is visible that Antwone is a product of social determinism. All in all, Antwone Fisher is eccentric and emotional due to the...

...HLT 362V Exercise 36 Questions to be graded 1-10 1. The researchers found a significant difference between the two groups (control and treatment) for change in mobility of the women with osteoarthritis (OA) over 12 weeks with the results of F ₍₁‚ ₂₂₎ = 9.619, p=0.005. Discuss each aspect of these results. Answer: The F value at 5% level of significance shows a significant difference between the control and the treatment groups. Therefore, the null hypothesis should be rejected because the p value 0.005 is less than 0.05 which means that the control and the treatment groups are different. 2. State the null hypothesis for the Baird and Sands (2004) study that focuses on the effect of the GI PMR treatment on the patients’ mobility level. Should the null hypotheses be rejected for the difference the two groups in change in mobility scores over 12 weeks? Provide a rationale for your answer. Answer: The null hypothesis would be that the means between the two groups, the control group and the treatment group will be equal. Since the p value is 0.005 0.01, the result is not statistically significant. Therefore, I would accept the null hypothesis because there is no difference between the control group and the treatment group. 6. Can ANOVA be used to test proposed relationship or predicted correlations between variables in a single group? Provide a rationale for your answer. Answer: No. ANOVA cannot be used to test proposed relationship or predicted correlations...

It was ]anuary of 201,0 and she and her colleagues were about to review the first retail sales results following a major strategic initiative to reposition and evolve the EILEEN FISHER brand. 2009 marked the 25tri anniversary of EILEEN FISHER and the occasion gave the company the impetus to pause and assess its history. The company had enjoyed phenomenal success in its first quarter century: its growth in revenues and profits had been driven by both the skong brand loyalty of its core customers, and the opening of fifty retail stores dedicated to the brand. The company was consistently recognized as oue of the best companies to work for and had an impressive environmental sustainability and social responsibility- record. However, a startling discovery had emerged. The median customer age was currently at 59 and increasing each year, keeping pace with the age of the company's visionary founder, Eileen Fisher. Despite the company's best efforts to design age-less clothing to appeal to multiple generations, as Fisher herself aged, so too had the customer base. The company found itself stereotyped as a brand for older, and, to some extent, customers with...

...Analysis of Research Report Mara Morris Statistical Applications HCS/438 May 4, 2014 Silvio Di Gregorio Analysis of Research Report Introduction The article “How much do parents know about first aid for burns” presents results of a two-month study conducted at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. The premise of the study was to verify if a relationship existed between the general knowledge of initial first-aid treatment for burns and age, gender, education, ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The Statistical Procedures Mentioned in the Study Pearson’s chi-squared test was used to determine if there was any correlation between genders, education level, age and first-aid knowledge. The use of logistic regression was employed so that all variables could be compared. There was found to be insufficient data collected to evaluate any relationship based on ethnicity. The Conclusions Reached in the Study It was concluded that people of lower socioeconomic status were less likely to have knowledge of initial first-aid treatment for burns. They were also less likely to have had any first-aid training. Persons of a higher socioeconomic status were more likely to have received first-aid education, which 40% of those stated they had received their first-aid training through their workplace. The study did not show any statistical significance for gender or age in the basic knowledge of first-aid for burns, but did show that prior first-aid training reflected better knowledge...

...NHL Regression Analysis Write-Up 1. I chose the topic because I am a big hockey fan, namely the Los Angeles Kings, who I have been following for quite a while. I am trying to find out whether the amount of goals scored, the number of minutes penalized and a Canadian nationality correlates to a player's salary amount. 2. I think my model will predict estimates of the conditional expectation of my dependent variable (annual salary), given the independent variables (goals, PIM & Canadian nationality). I expect the b for x1 (goals) to be positive as the more goals one scores, it warrants higher skill, thus higher pay. I expect the b value for x2 (PIM) to be negative as an increase of penalty minutes translates into less playing time which can result in lesser opportunities to score/assist on plays. Also, players that accumulate more penalty minutes are more likely to play the role of "enforcer" than "goal scorer", thus are historically paid less than most players. I expect the b value of x3 (Canadian Nationality) to be positive as most players in the National Hockey League are of Canadian nationality. 3. The coefficient parameter for annual salary, goals, penalty minutes and nationality are as respectively follows: 39058.28, -10044.7929 and -354824.588. B0: This intercept literally means if goals and PIM were 0 while nationality was not considered at all, that annual salary is 39058.28. That would not be sufficient. We are relatively more interested in the change of the salary...

Executive Summary When preparing to write an executive summary, ask yourself the following questions: • Who will read your executive summary? Sometimes your executive summary may have an “intended” audience: your professor might require you to write it for a CEO, department head, or supervisor, for example. On other assignments, your audience won’t have a specific identity, but always keep in mind that the reader of an executive summary needs to know all of the important information in the main document without reading the actual document. Even if you know that your instructor will be reading everything that you submit, write the executive summary as a “stand alone” document. • What is the main document’s main topic, theme, or idea? Most reports have a “thesis” or central point that they are seeking to communicate. Try to sum this up in two or three sentences. If you are having trouble with this, imagine that someone has asked you, “what’s this report about?” and that you have to explain...

In Table 1, the c² = 6.45 for the Race of Child. 3). Four null hypotheses were accepted since four c² values were not significant, as indicated in Table 1. No significant results indicate that the null hypotheses are supported or accepted as an accurate reflection of the results of the study. 4. The c² = 21.95 for Marital Status (%): Married/living with partner or Living alone. The symbol next to this c² value indicates that it is statistically significant at p ≤ .001. If alpha (α) = 0.05 for this study, then p is less than α indicates that the c² value is statistically signifi cant. 5. No, p ≤ .001 has a greater significance than p ≤ .05, since the smaller the p value, the more significant the findings. Thus, p ≤ .05 is not as significant as at p ≤ .001. 6. Mean household income has a greater statistically significant value because it is reported significant at p ≤ .001, whereas Education (of adult) is reported significant at p ≤ .05. The smaller the p value, the more significant the findings. 7. Yes, Mean household income is also significant at p ≤ .05, since p ≤ .001 has a greater significance than p ≤ .05. What is significant at p ≤ .001 is also significant at p ≤ .05. 8).
