...has ever owned a dog, they would recognize that they can convey great happiness, and give unconditional love. But does one truly comprehend on how beneficial canines can be? Dog owners are less likely to suffer from depression, and tend to be very active people. Non-dog owners lack strength in responsibility, and happiness isn't as exceptional in their lives. A dog is a man’s best friend, and without a dog one does not truly have a best friend. Canines can be extremely beneficial to one’s physical health. Studies have shown, people who are dog owners possess lower blood pressure in high stressed situations, rather than people without pets. The reason for this is because when playing with a pooch it can elevate levels of serotonin...

...are more equal than others." The relationship humans tend to have within the animal kingdom is not as civilized as it should be. When looking at it from a moral and religious perspective, humans should treat all animals equally. Statistics have shown that in developed countries such as the United States, animals such as dogs are treated far better than other animals. The question then arises, why do dogs get treated more diligently while other animals with the same mental capacity get slaughtered and consumed? By looking at "Let Them Eat Dog" by Jonathon Foer, the perception of why one should not think of dogs as superior animals and why the idea of consuming a dog should not be looked down upon in society will be thoroughly analyzed and examined. People in the United States think it’s morally wrong to eat dogs since it is a household pet. The same people who don’t eat dogs, eat other animals such as pigs, chickens, and cows, which is questionable because they still devour animals that are necessary to the environment and society today. In "Let Them Eat Dog" by Jonathon Foer, the author gives logical reasons on why we should eat dog, and why it is not harmful to the society in any manner. It's legal in 44 states to eat dog, and dog meat poses no greater health risk than any other meat. The problem arises is that a dog is labeled as a "man's best friend". Therefore, it is merely wrong to even think of eating a dog in the United States. Because pets such as dogs and cats are considered...

...differences lead us to anthropomorphize dogs. This anthropomorphization can have many negative effects on our canine friends. Anthropomorphism is when you treat animals as if they were our fellow humans, although this is a big problem because animals are completely different than humans mentally and emotionally. Dogs don’t see as many colors and don't see as clear, but they are able to see well in the dark. Dogs see different than we as humans because of their alternate eye construct. This is supposedly due to the fact that “dogs have no fovea (or area with 100% cones), it is estimated their eye for detail is 6 times poorer...

...some great things people do with their dogs. Most activities welcome all dogs, whether purebred or of mixed breed heritage. Some of these activities are classed as "working dog" activities, but are also done on a recreational basis, or as a public service. Some dog activities are purely recreational in nature, while others are competitive dog sports. Many of these activities may be new to you. I have chosen my links based upon how welcoming they are to the merely curious. People who play with their dog, stay with their dog. Why do dog activities matter? Why promote them? Dog activities matter because they help dogs keep their homes. When people and dogs do things together it is good news all around. Many of these activities provide the structure that helps people learn to better communicate with their dogs. The dogs have a better opportunity to learn good manners. That makes them easier to live with and less likely to be given up. The activities help people get in touch with one another to share information. That also helps people to learn about dogs, to avoid problems, and to solve them in a healthy way. The activities provide exercise in a fun way that boosts the relationship. The exercise, in turn, reduces boredom. A dog that exercises with its human is less likely to have behavior problems. A wonderful side benefit is that these activities can be a mental boost for humans and dogs alike. Do we need lessons on having fun with our dogs? All the evidence is, yes, we need...

...more than just the thoughts of a dog going for a walk. Through various poetic techniques, Doty is able to express the basis for a very serious human ailment which is present in (nearly) all of us. This chronic crisis of which we are guilty of is literally expressed in words better than any human could say. In this poem, Doty is showing us that dogs, even though they are much more simple-minded creatures than us, possess profound wisdom which we would do well to take heed. Not only that, but the situation is taken to a whole different level in the final two lines. The most basic element of this poem to understand is that the speaker is a dog (presumably a golden retriever). The thoughts of this dog quickly rattle by as the reader tries to keep up: “Fetch? Balls and sticks capture my attention / seconds at a time” (1-2). And for the preceding four lines the dog stays true to this, and each idea he (we’ll assume the dog here is male) presents us truly lasts no long than a second each. The above lines also serve as an excellent example of Doty’s use of enjambment in this poem to help represent the dog’s never-ending train of thought. The transition from the first to the second stanza flow better than any of the lines surrounding them: “Sniff the wind, then / I’m off again” (4-5). By putting the break one syllable before the end of the line instead of at the end of it denies the reader even the shortest of breaks from one stanza to another. This shows that the dog is...

...My best Friend It is often said that a dog is a man’s best friend, and rightfully so. Not only do dogs possess all of the qualities we look for in a companion, but they also lack those qualities and habits that we often find irritating in our friends and family. Dogs are loyal, caring, and enthusiastic. They are not offended easily, rude or mean as people can often be. I believe that at some time in their life, everyone should experience the joy of owning a dog. A dog companion has all the same benefits as a human companion without the constant work and effort required for human interaction. They will listen to you for hours on end without a single argument or complaint, when you’re sad there’s no one better to lay with you while you cry, and when you want to exercise they will be more than happy to accompany you on a morning run or hike. In fact, in many instances I find that my dog gives me a reason to get out of the house, thus motivating me to work out. Dogs are always willing to go on an adventure with you, whether it be going to the lake for a day or walking down your driveway to get your mail. They are always more than happy to tag along with you, making your chores and daily outings a little more pleasant. When I’m having a rough day nothing lifts my spirits more than walking through my front door and seeing my dog, sitting and waiting patiently. I don’t know of anyone else who is more excited to see me on a daily basis. It is an instant self-esteem boost to...

...Health Alliance, 2013). Dogs are the most common household pets in Australia, which has approximately 4.2 million pet dogs (Animal Health Alliance, 2013). However, dog aggression is the most common pet dogs’ behavior problem and it causes a major public health problem in Australia (Voelker, 1997; Schalamon, 2006). According to the Annual Urban Animal Management Conference (2013), average 14,000 Australians are injured due to dog attack each year and about 1,400 of those injuries required medical treatment or hospitalization. Over sixty percent of dog attacks occurred at home, which means an owner or household-members have a higher possibility to be victimized in a dog attack. Over the last three decades, numerous of researches have been indicated that owner attachment levels and dog characteristics are the major factors leading to aggressive responses in pet dogs (Borchelt, 1983; Landsberg, 1991; Hunthausen, 1997; Hsu and Sun, 2010). Although these findings provide evidence for the link between owner-dog interaction and the aggressive behavior problem in pet dogs, surprisingly little research has examined the link between pet dogs-directed aggression in human and the controlling behavior in a relationship. To redress this imbalance, it is important to explore the connection between pet dogs aggressive behavior and domestic violence. Aims and Objectives The aims of this present study are to explore the connection between human directed aggression by pet dogs and controlling behavior...

...Why Humans Should Not Feed Their Dogs Human Food American obesity is not only a problem for humans but also for dogs. Families have trouble denying table scraps to their best friend, especially when they are in the habit of doing it. Feeding a dog table scraps can not only quickly lead to obesity and behavioral issues, but it can also impair the dog's health depending on the types of food given to the pet. Even though there are a number of foods safe for dogs to consume, there are even more human foods that can negatively affect a hound's health. Most families do not do enough research on what foods are unsafe for a dog to eat. Americans love their canines and want to reward them with table scraps, but although it may seem...

...Madagascar, Mexico, Peru, and Zaire. The Kingdom Animalia includes the following species: mammals, insects, birds, echinoderms, and etcetera. In this paper we will discuss two from the following areas: mammals (cats and dogs), insects (ants and flies), pigeon and chicken (birds) and echinoderms (star fish and sand dollar). o Mammals The domestic cat or also known as species Felis catus (Cat, 2009) can be dated back about 3500 to ancient Egypt. They were used as pets and mousers. Over time, cats have been worshipped or deemed evil because of their association with witches. The weigh an average of 6 to 10 pounds. Cats unlike dogs move by using their front and back legs on one side first, then the other. Cats like dogs are also very smart and carnivorus. Like dogs, they are skillful hunters, but unlike dogs, they are very nimbled and skilled on their feet. The domestic dog or also known as the species Canis lupus familiaris (dog, 2009) may have been around for almost 60 million years in what we now consider Asia. ...my cats Long time ago, a people raised a cat and a dog as his pet. And the cat and the dog were very good friends. They ate together, lived together, and play together. They almost stayed together all of the day. One day, the master lost his ancestral gem and he was very sad. Then the cat and the dog decided to find the gem. On the road, they met a mountain, the dog said” Cat brother, climb on my back!” Then they met a river. The cat couldn’t swim. The dog said” Don’t worry. I can help you. Climb on my back.” Finally, they found the gem. But when they returned to home, the cat told their master” it’s me who find the gem, and the dog did nothing.” When the dog wanted to explain it, the master didn’t give dog a chance. He gave the cat a delicious fish, and kicked the dog out of the door. The dog and the cat weren’t friend since then. That’s why dogs bite cats as soon as they meet, and dogs always pursue while cats always escape. And another reason is that dogs and cats have very different language. When the dog meets the cat, the dog always wags tail, because they think it is a friendly way. But cats often think it is provocation. But nowadays dogs and cats aren’t always enemy any more. Sometimes, they can stay together peacefully. Maybe you could say the dog is a better pet. But I don’t know why, I just like cats very much. I always become crazy when I meet a cat. They are really cute. When they want something, they fawn on you and follow you all around. And cats can be very...
