Social Work is a field that gets put on the back burner most times. Treated unfairly the Social Workers must find available options for clients and resources. More and more lately programs to benefit the well-being of adults and children are being cut back or even eliminated altogether. Therefore, we need Social Workers to vouch for their clients and issues that they feel most compassionate about. The best way to make ones voice be heard is through voting, attending public meetings and advocating with policy makers. Unfortunately, at times it is difficult to get one’s voice heard when so many policy makers are corrupt and do not have the best interest for the people they represent. I explained I wanted to go over future fiscal plans for the local middle school. I also included that I voted from him last year even though I did not vote for him nor did I know who he really was. Nonetheless, One hour after I emailed him, he returned my call as I had included my telephone number in the email I had sent to him. I was shocked to see his name on my caller id. Padula said he was very interested in speaking with me and I should attend the town council meeting that was being held in an hour. I accepted the invitation even though I had already intended on attending the meeting. After the twenty minute meeting at the town hall on October 20, 2015 had concluded I stayed behind to speak to Padula and had a one on one conversation. Unfortunately, the meeting did not discuss and issues, problems, or concerns about the schools at all, but I listened and took notes during the meeting. The meeting was causal and the councilmen spoke when they felt the need to speak regarding what was being discussed at the meeting.
Angelo Padula Jr. was said to have made some controversial comments about the schools in West Warwick. The President of the West Warwick teachers alliance said that “Padula would rather pay fines than to teachers” Cahir, Thom (2012). I was not a fan of the comment that was said about Padula.
