ARISTOTLE

Background
Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle was born circa 384 B.C. in Stagira, a small town on the northern coast of Greece that was once a seaport. When he turned 17, he enrolled in Plato’s Academy. In 338, he began tutoring Alexander the Great. In 335, Aristotle founded his own school, the Lyceum, in Athens, where he spent most of the rest of his life studying, teaching and writing. Aristotle died in 322 B.C., after he left Athens and fled to Chalcis. Aristotle’s father, Nicomachus, was court physician to the Macedonian king Amyntas II. Although Nicomachus died when Aristotle was just a young boy, Aristotle remained closely affiliated with and influenced by the Macedonian court for the rest of his life. Little is known about his mother, Phaestis; she is also believed to have died when Aristotle was young.

ARISTOTLE’S PHILOSOPHY AND THE SOCIAL ISSUE OF POVERTY

“The rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the destruction of the poor is their poverty.” Poverbs 10:15 KJV. This verse connotes that rich people have their riches to rely on by that means denying the Glory of God in their lives. And the poor have no such reliance but if they don’t trust God through their hardship, these rich and poor people will be destroyed through criminality.
Being without things, having little money, not many material possessions and in need of essential goods, these would describe poverty. Poverty is the highly problematic issue here in the Philippines. With this, the government should know the pulse of the people in order to eradicate poverty. But if this government don’t care the increasing percentage of poverty like in the Philippines, it leads to revolution and change into a crime. Because of poverty, evil thoughts of getting out from the vicious cycle through doing illegal things or ways to save them from poverty or that will improve their living. These thoughts and ideas that cause them to forsake their values or even change their attitude and behavior towards the issues that are happening around them as long as they can stop being poor. It is not true that committing crime would help improve your life and save you from poverty but instead, it could harm yourself and even your family. Just like in here in the local areas, we heard many issues and even we see in the national television many happenings like revolution and crimes. We heard thefts, bulgaries, carnaps and even killings. With these issues we have now, let us think and wander if this is the life we want to live together with our love ones. The only thing that would help us is to trust God that He will guide and provide you for everything with your hardship and perseverance and the most importantly is doing what is good in humanity. With these highly increasing issues, it should be STOP.
