...Drawing on Memory, an exhibition by Eden McNutt was on display at Arizona State University’s West Campus’ University Center Building gallery just recently. McNutt’s art revolves around his childhood memories while growing up Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. While growing up, Eden had faced racism and bigotry vicariously through his friends. He and his friends faced racial divides in order to keep their friendship. The art that was displayed at the ground-floor gallery was a reflection of his past and of current situations. Aside from his own work being presented, footage of present day Pittsburg was also being displayed on a loop. Along different panels, there were about three or four different pieces of his work hanging. Some smaller and some larger...

...an American artist, in 1890. The pieces he created during his life are exhibited in different museums and private exhibitions. The subjects of his pieces are very attractive to the eyes and many tastes, because they depict the images of a lighthearted daily life of society. The piece that I am analyzing is currently on exhibit at the Phoenix Art Museum in, Phoenix, Arizona. Who was Julius LeBlanc Stewart? He was an American painter born in 1855, in Philadelphia, Pa. When he was ten, his family settled in Paris, France where he spent most of his life as a “figure” and “genre” painter. His style and choice of subject matter were greatly influenced by the collection tastes of his father, who particularly patronized the contemporary Spanish-Roman school, the artists Eduardo Zamacois, Federico Madrazo, and Mariano Fortuny (Dictionary of American Art, Icon Editions, p.341). He died on January 5th, 1919 in Paris, France. After his death, several friends, consisting on the painters Beraud, Walter MacEwen, and Gari Melchers, were appointed to a committee to advise on proportioning many his works of art to various American museums. It was Melchers that personally arranged the gift of At Home to the Telfair Academy in Georgia, while other beneficiaries were the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago; the Corcoran Gallery and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. (Hiesinger, Catalog 1998). From his earliest painting dated to 1876, this American painter...

...now stands Mexico City, they found an eagle holding a serpent between its claws on a cactus. The Mexica thought this was a message from their god Huitzilopochtli (sun god) telling them that there was their sacred land. Pre-Hispanic Cultures Before the Mexica arrived to the center of Mexico and Central America, many pre-Hispanic cultures were developed, sharing their traditions and culture. When we talk about Mesoamerica, it refers to cultures that existed before the European conquest in the territories that are now Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. In Mesoamerica grew and faded many cultures, some of the most important were the Olmec, Zapotec, Maya and Aztec. These cultures had their own art, architecture and religion, most of these cultures were conquered by other cultures and therefore there was a mixture developing and forming a new and enriched culture. These cultures lived on the Pre-classic, Classic and Post classic which is division in periods of the pre-Hispanic period, some of these cultures lived for over a period, others just lived through one. The Conquest of Mexico and the Creation of New Spain In 1492 Christopher Columbus arrived in Cuba and thought that they were in the Indies (today India). Almost thirty years later, Hernán Cortés invaded and conquered the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan and for the next 300 years, Mexico was under the control of the Spanish monarchy, were the Indians and Spanish lived together...

...earliest ideas of the Post It right through to the products available today. 3M The physical invention of the post it spanned over a period of 10 years, however, I believe the earliest derivation of the modern day Post It Note can be traced back to the very establishment of the 3M Company itself. In 1902 the business got off to a rather bad start when a group of investors by mistake bought a mountain containing worthless mineral to start a business to mine corundum to manufacture sand paper). Unsurprisingly the company did not generate profit for 14 years. Seemingly spurred on by their less than successful origins, 3m have since always strived to create a working environment in which innovation can flourish. Brand (1998) on the topic of 3m states that “to guarantee such conditions are in place and sustained over time, requires a long term commitment from top management, the recruitment and retention of the right people and a strong support and recognition programme.” Brand (1998) insists however that innovation cannot be allocated to one or two individuals in an organisation, that “it must permeate the entire fabric of an organisation and every department within a company, not just...
