The historical leader I chose to analyze is Arnold Orville Beckman. Arnold Beckman lived to be 104 years old, he led a vibrant and fulfilling life from 1900-2004. He was a talented pianist, well-known for his impact in the world of chemistry, his investments in technological advancements, as well as his charitable donations and generosity to his community. Doctor Beckman and his wife Mabel Beckman were contributors of the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center where I am currently employed. This center is in part a museum exhibiting Doctor Beckman’s many inventions but also a venue holding meeting space for events in educational fields related to lectures on topics of science, technology, engineering, or pharmaceuticals. Social events are forbidden, on the basis of intent to inform and discuss fellow researchers on these studies solely. I find myself very intrigued by this man not only for his several honorable inventions but also for the mottos he lived by, and his “Seven Rules for Success.”
Arnold Beckman’s, “Seven Rules for Success” include: “Maintain absolute integrity at all times, Always do your best, never do anything half-heartedly. Due to his advancements in technology in the United States Dr. Beckman was awarded the National Medal of Technology in 1988. In 1989 he was recognized for his service with a Presidential Citizens Medal from the Ronald Regan administration. President Bush awarded Dr. Beckman the National Medal of Science in 19892. These were all well-deserved for his progressive movement in helping the nation understand instrumentations utilized to help measure science, as well as implementing the scientific advancements throughout our
