...intimate. The background noise was filled with a light roar of the other group’s conversation, and a jazz station played quietly from the speakers overhead. Person A was a male around the age of 22. He was tall and thin with a short dark haircut and a brown eye. The first nonverbal observation I made of person A was the way he was dressed. He had on a blue button down shirt and a pair of dark jeans. His clothing was coordinated with a pair of brown shoes. I think he took his time to match up his all outfit because everything was on point. The verbal Expression I picked up was how he was nervous. He was careful about everything he said. He looked like he was scared he might say the wrong thing and ruin the date. He didn’t have much self confidence at that moment but the more they communicate the less nervous he become and easier to talk to. Person B was a Female around the age of 21. She was pretty tall and thin as well. She had long black hair with big golden hoops. I made the same nonverbal observation about person B as well. She was dressed in a short red dress with a really high black hill, golden wallet and golden hoops. It looked like she took her time as well as she was dressed. ...LSI : Life Styles Inventory MGMT591 – Dr. Hallcom 9/13/2013 The Life Styles Inventory survey, provided by Human Synergistics International, measures a person’s personal orientation toward thinking and behaving. The questions contained in the survey measure twelve styles related to the thoughts and attitudes that motivate a person’s behavior, how a person might relate to others, and how a person might problem solve and/or make decision (“What lsi measures”, 2012). Various psychologists and management scholars, i.e. Maslow, Hertzberg, etc., influenced the questions presented in the survey. The goal is to use the results to examine my strengths and those other areas that need improving. My styles profile is broken into three parts: constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Of the twelve styles, my primary style is ‘achievement’ and my backup style is ‘approval’. These styles have the greatest influence on my behavior. In selecting that slice of my circumplex, the achievement style is characterized by “a focus on achieving a standard of excellence; the knowledge that individual effort counts,” and “a belief in the benefits of asking for and giving honest feedback” (“Your lsi styles,” 2013). Most of the items that comprise the achievement style manifest itself in my personal- and work-life. For example, I enjoy being busy, learning more, taking on difficult tasks and accomplishing them. I pride myself in...

Unless, of course, they do NOT want you to identify it with a name. ??) Ever since I was a child, I’ve always wanted to become a brain surgeon, because I want to help people and make a difference in the medical field. My immediate goals are (goal is) to graduate from high school with a diploma and a high GPA. Next I hope to get accepted into my first four year university where I can continue with (consider deleting it) my education. Being a part of ASPIRA has help (has + past participle = helped) to improve my leadership qualities (as well as my self confidence). It also has allowed me the opportunity to receive individual guidance in preparation for my future (like) applying to universities and scholarships, as well as preparing for a job interview. These steps can be complicated and frightening, but receiving the encouragement and support from ASPIRA, I feel more confident that I will be able to achieve my goals. I don’t know where else I would be able to get this invaluable help. I am in need of financial assistance in order to attend college, because the career I am trying to pursue will require lots of money and I am a low income student. I only have one parent to support me and it will not be easy for my dad to pay for my school and take care of my other siblings. I am the first child...

...What are the best qualities to look for in the leader of a business team? There are many qualities that could make someone a great team leader. However, not all great leaders have the same good qualities, and all good qualities are not found in every leader because everyone has their own strong and weak points. What is important is to figure out your own values and working styles, then look for a leader with whom your personal traits and qualities can complement each other. Doing so will likely develop a strong foundation for growth and success. Three of the most important traits that I would personally look for in a strong leader would be integrity, self confidence, and intelligence. One of the most important traits to seek in a strong leader and entrepreneur is integrity. For a person to have integrity, it means that they will act with honesty and reliability. They also demonstrate take responsibility for their actions and not try to sugar-coat things or cover them up. Being able to trust in a leader is incredibly important because that means that people following the leader or working with him or her can trust that what is said is what will be done. That in turn means no deceptions and no unfortunate surprises. A leader with integrity will likely also demonstrate good ethics, another key trait for developing a successful enterprise. An entrepreneur creates a business and sets an example that reflects who they are as a person. Acting with integrity will create an environment...

...either from work or personal life. We could assess their effectiveness by measuring the final output - the productivity and quality of the work of non coached employees compared to the work of coached employees, wheather there are some differences in the outcome, or not. Also by observing how the employees interact with one another, wheather they are smiley, or still frustrated. 2. Would you welcome hppiness training in your workplace? Why, or why not? I most certainly would, as in times that there is a lot of work needed to be done in such a little time, everyone gets really frustrated, stressed and angry, feeling they will never have it all finished in time, the happiness coach would be much appreciated. He couldboost their self confidence, show them how to cope with the problems and I believe, that when you are in the good mood, confident about yourself, you are more likely to be nice and supportive to others and also do things faster and they seem much more easy for you. 3. Some argue that the happiness coaches are a way for organizations to aviod solving real work problems – a diversion, if you will. How might we make this determination? Some employers might cover low effectivenes and productivity of their employees with a bad mood, that they are not happy, but it might be for the bad working conditions or bad management, so they hire a happiness coach to make employees more satisfied, but in the case...

...RA3 – Reflection of techniques Barometer of confidence +Using a scale system helped me identify what current level I felt I was. +Open questioning for the analysis of current level enabled me to explain why I felt I was at the current level stated and give examples to reinforce the level indicated. -The scale system though is relatively vague in regards to numbers and their value. It is through interpretation of their value in regards to how confident you are rather than a systematic and calculated approach. This means the level you suggest you are currently achieving could be over or under the realistic level. -Answering is subjective and could have an element of bias. There are no set criteria to base the level and descriptive answering on. Learning Styles Questionnaire +Questions asked reinforce a particular learning style when answers are collated, to make the claim to be stronger in a particular learning style more valid. +Questions can be related to the careers work that I do and therefore indicate the learning styles I tend to use in appointments. -Questions can be interpreted in a variety of situations, so the answers given may not truly reflect the learning styles being used. -Final scoring of answers given doesn’t indicate the scale of which a learning style is used. It is only an indication and further analysis would need to be used to definitively suggest the learning styles more suited to an individual. My results are fairly even and don’t indicate...

...developing resilience. Some factors include a positive outlook on life, spirituality, active coping, self-confidence, learning and making meaning and acceptance of limits. Developing and maintaining a positive outlook on life includes finding something to laugh about, calming and comforting yourself, recharge yourself before the next situation. It is also important to take time to relax and have time to yourself. An example of doing this is incorporating spirituality in your life by ways such as praying, meditating, or relaying on a value system or a set of guiding life principles. Active coping includes never giving up on trying to solve problem and seeking help when you need it. Being confident means expecting that you can handle the problem and knowing you will be able to bounce back from the stressful situation. Looking for meaning in the experience and understanding that bad things can and do happen to anyone. Accepting your limits means putting things into perspective and realize you will have times of joy and times of sadness. Through practising these factors, mental resilience will be a skill you will accomplish. 3. To destroy your resilience all you basically have to do is look at the ways of building your resilience and do the opposite. Do not connect with other people or yourself. Ignore help, always think theirs no light at the end of the tunnel, and feel no confidence about yourself. Always putting yourself down, being lonely, neglecting your body and mind and always...

...The informative article “Is a Little Knowledge Really a Dangerous Thing”, written by Romeo Vitelli in Psychology Today on 13th November, discuss the consequences of being overconfident and how it occurs in the first place. Vitelli focus in the article is to have a better assessment in the decision-making process. He argues that being overconfident caused the learner to misjudge their ability and skills. He also claims in the article that overconfidence will cause the beginner to come up with their own conclusion while convincing themselves that they were right without a proper research. The article is convincing with a simple and valid explanation, but disappointing as the article is biased to Vitelli favors. This is shown in the article as he did not include any advantages of being overconfidence. It seems to me that the article is written in an expository style as Vitelli intend to offer readers information about the danger of overconfidence. Therefore, the lack of opposing argument cause the article to appear biased, even though the author did not include his own opinion. To support his idea, Romeo Vitelli use simple and popular culture as an example. This allows a better understanding of his target reader, beginners. The author also includes tangible information by using the research article of six studies by Carmen Sanchez and David Dunning. He also includes educational terms such as ‘beginner bubble’, ‘probabilistic learning tasks’ and ‘exuberant theorizing’ in the article...
