For many years, children had been abandoned by parents who may not properly take care of them. Therefore, the children are put into the foster care system where they live with strangers, move from home to home,and abused by foster parent . As I uncovered the coatings of this book, I discovered that love, trust and acceptance is a yearning for those who lacks it. Ashley Rhodes-Courter,throughout the story had a lack of love, trust and acceptance with being in different fosters homes/ parents, and child welfare administrators,as a young age. As I discovered the deeper lesson in Ashley's life. In the memoir of “Three little words” by Ashley Rhodes-Courter, Ashley has been through many foster homes, caseworkers and therapy but she never lost sight of loving her mother. However, throughout her years in foster care, she got adopted by Phil and Gay Counter. As lovely parents, they were Ashley lack her love toward them. In a quote from the book Ashley state “Even if gay really thought she loved me, I felt nothing”(Courter 212). …show more content…
Ashley been though different child welfare, caseworkers, foster parents, Guardian and attorneys. Most of them have been telling Ashley lies when she wants to know the truth. In the book, Ashley states at a young age how she first felt “I might have been too young for an explanation, but years would pass without anyone answering an of my question”(Courter 10). Even at a young age, she started to question, ‘what go on’ or ‘why i'm living with stranger’ but no one would answer her and little by little, she starts to lose trust. When Ashley got adopted she still wonder if they were going to send her back to foster care system for doing something bad. For instance,” I liked the courters’ large house , my school, and my friends. I just had to figure out how not to blow it”(Courter 201).
