Art is such a freeing exercise that can easily improve a person’s mindset. The way it works is by creating connections, such as: the connection between artistic engagement and the psychosocial and biological manifestations of that connection. More specifically, there is evidence that engagement with artistic activities, either as an observer of the creative efforts of others or as an initiator of one's own creative efforts, can enhance one's moods, emotions, and other psychological states as well as have a salient impact on important physiological parameters. Abstract art is the most expressive type of art for stress and anxiety relief because it allows people to let their emotions flow loosely on to the canvas. Since there are not any specific guidelines for this form of art, it is represented differently through a person’s eyes, “Art can't be explained adequately in words, because it's influence on people is so personal and speaks to the nonverbal parts of our existence. Therefore, art is an experience. You must let go of your need to put things into words, and let the artwork take you somewhere” (“Understanding Abstract Art: The Secret to Making Sense of Modern Abstract Art”). Painting this style of art creates tones and moods that sometimes are too complicated to put into words. The final outcome of the art piece will be interpreted depending on how the mood makes people feel. The creation of an abstract art piece is composed of loose, relaxed, and free-flowing strokes, which help establish calming effects that relieve anxiety and stress. Abstract art is the most relaxing form of art because it unshackles us from the burdening chains of stress and anxiety. Abstract art is used in many facilities because it is asserted as the most therapeutic. I have been conducting experiments with creating abstract art in different environments, chaotic and serene. I have found that it is hard to focus on creating art in a chaotic environment, but if a person would allow himself or herself to give in to the creation process then it doesn’t matter what setting they are in. The creation process is of most importance because it is the main contributing factor for relief of stress and anxiety.
