...CIS 210 - Use Case for ATM Services 4/29/12 Kevin Hagan Dr. Yohannes Abate Making a withdrawal via an Automated Teller Machine Making a withdrawal of funds from your bank account via an automated teller machine (ATM) is easy (Richardson). There are only a few steps involved, and there is no need for the customer to have to go to the bank itself anymore. While there are no restrictions, you can make withdrawals from any ATM on the street, the only exception over using the bank’s ATM is that they may charge you a fee for using another banks/companies ATM. For illustration, we will be using an ATM at the bank itself, so that if there is a problem then the customer can go inside and discuss this problem with a representative of the bank. The assumption is that you are at the ATM and currently have an account with the bank. Step 1: Insert your ATM card or credit card. Step 2: Enter your personal identification number (PIN). Step 3: Select “Withdrawal” from the transaction menu. Step 4: Select “cash” from the next transaction menu. Step 5: Select the amount of cash you wish to withdraw. At this step, either you can withdraw a preselected amount, or you can enter any other amount. Step 6: When prompted, select confirm on the amount that you wish to withdraw. Step 6: Take your detailed receipt with a summary of your withdrawals. Step 7: Remove your ATM card from the machine. ...Adapted Homework, Ch. 11 (11 points possible) 1. “An Analysis of sustainability is similar to a five forces analysis.” Comment on this, focusing on the firm you’ve been studying for your term project. (1 point) A sustainability analysis is similar to a five forces analysis because they are focus on creating competitive advantage. The sustainability analysis is to analyze and find a way to compete with competitors and deal with potential entrants, in order to maintain profits in the long run. The analysis includes the company’s resources and isolating mechanism that help the company to sustain its advantages. The five forces analysis also analyze 5 factors, like supplier power, buyer power, competitors, new entrants, and substitutes and complements, which affect to the company profits. The company can use both analysis to build competitive advantage and maintain its position, market share, and profit margin in the industry. 2. (a) How do economies of scale affect sustainability? (b) Economies of scope? (2 points: 1 point each) When economic of scales happens it definitely affects sustainability because the resources and isolating mechanism changes. For some companies might be easier to scale to large quantities of production and the competitive advantage could change for the one able to do it. Economies of scope will also change the sustainability because producing two products because it is the same cost to produce one of them can change how companies limit...

Through the project the focus has been on using the ATM on a simple and reliable manner which makes use of normal database and input/output operations to give the desired results to the customer. This project is based upon the basic uses and functioning of the ATM as a whole where a customer can create a bank account, deposit his/her balance and retrieve money using a credit or a debit card. Banking system software keeps the day to day transaction record as a part of complete banking. It can keep the information of the account type, account opening form, deposit and withdrawal and searches the transacton, transaction reports, individual account opening form, group accounts etc. The exiciting part of this project is that through this software we can display transaction reports, statistical summary of account type and interest information. 2. ...Professional ethics includes relationships and responsibilities to customers and others who use the technology products that we develop. Honesty is a fundamental ethical value, however, some ethical problems are more subtle than the choice between honesty and dishonesty. As technology professionals, we must have a "..good conscience in all things ... (Hebrews 13:18)" as we strive to do a thorough and careful job. But, we must recognize that, even using the best design methodologies, it is possible to produce software that is flawed. Discuss the following: * Should producers of software-based services, such as ATMs, be held liable for economic injuries suffered when their systems fail? * Does your perspective on the level of culpability change when the development was conducted in accordance with industry best practices? * What steps, if any, can be taken to protect against potentially dangerous programming mistakes? The first question in the discussion board is interesting because there can be valid arguments made on both sides of the question. If it is found that the producer could have taken steps to avoid the economic injuries suffered from their software then they should be held liable for the damages but if the damages are no fault of their own then they should not be held liable. There was a recent case that got worldwide attention when hackers broke into Sony’s PlayStation network and stole account information from millions of customers. One article that...

...of servicescape. Miles & Cannon 2012, stated that firm competitive strategy has an impact on the strength of the relationship between customer satisfaction and servicescape characteristics. Hill’s strategy was to go against industry trends, which were focused on making profits rather than providing a service to customers. Hill also reduced the listening gap. The listening gap is first gap in the Gap Model of Customer Services that illustrates the relationship between company’s perception of consumer expectations and customer’s expected service (Dehghann, Shahin, & Zenouzi, 2012). Hill decided to concentrate on the 62% of customers who chose the bank on convenience instead of the rest of the industry that was focusing on 3% clients, who chose the bank based on high interest rates. The services Commerce Bank offered were based on a personal contact. Their offices were run on “10-minute-rule”, which meant the branches were open 10-minutes before the opening time and closed 10-minutes after official closing time. Longer operating hours allowed more time for customer service. When it was raining, a customer was escorted out by an employee holding an umbrella. They also had phones by ATM machines, so that customers could call if they needed some assistance. Other ways to increase the customers experience were to offer a check view feature for online banking and introducing drive-through-window. This Commerce’s customer retention methodology allowed Commerce Bank to offer lower interest...

...LITERATURE REVIEW The researcher will review existing literatures on customer service in the banking industry of Ghana. This chapter takes a look at the various variables that may influence important customer service amid fierce competition from the perspective of some writers and researchers. It starts with profile of the banking industry under study through to the importance and nature of the customer practices, Customer Satisfaction, Retention and Customer Loyalty, Customer Relationship Building and its practical implications for the study. THE BANKING INDUSTRY During the past decade, the financial sector in Ghana has undergone major changes mainly through the financial sector structural adjustment programme as part of the economic recovery programme. Moreover, globalisation, mergers and acquisitions, and the emergence of new technologies have contributed dramatically to stiffer competition and pressures on profitability (Amoako 2012) Before the 1950s, the number of bank accounts in Ghana was very few and what mattered most was the personal contact between the Bank Manager and his customers. There was hardly any urgent demand for information because of the low volumes of transactions. This made it possible to satisfy customers with manually kept records. Thus the majority of banking services were performed using manual operations and personal contact with customers without much information transfer and handling of customer data. As commercial activities increased...

In oppositions to such companies, service companies are first of all preoccupied with preserving their current customers. A frequent example, as an average, is that the cost incurred for attracting new consumers is five to six times higher that the one incurred for maintaining current ones1. Moreover, the loss of a consumer reduces the profit by approximately 118 USD, while its preservation costs only 20 USD2.
