...For me, AVID was fun, helpful, beneficial, and exciting. I learned many things in AVID such as the proper way to take notes, how to be more organized, more about college, more about my peers, and how to keep up with my grades. This helped me alot because I will use this knowledge from now on. But AVID also help me academically because we did TRF’s that help me with confusion, grade checks, and binder checks. Binder checks helped me be more organized instead of having papers from different class mixed up. Grade checks help me stay on top of my grades, and check powerschool at least 4 times a week. AVID was fun for me because we took trips, had parties, did activities on most fridays, and did work that was fun instead of complicated. The trip we took to Camp Manitoqua was fun because we did team building activities but, had fun while doing it. When we did the “campfire” in class on fridays or, the activity when we went around and answered the question, then ate our marshmallow or poptart, helped us learn more about each other. The good news warm helped us express ourselves, give good news, and start our morning right. Almost everything that we did was fun and exciting....

...In AVID 2, there were many things that I approved in academically. There were also non-academic goals that I worked on outside of the classroom. I can definitely agree that there are things that I have improved on and things that I should still work on a little more. AVID has helped me with my organization problems and has allowed me to plan things more effectively, as well as study better. I am now aware of how important college is, and how important it is that we work hard in high school so that we can become successful in college, and so on. From all of the activities, reflections, and field trips that we went on, I realized how beneficial high school is, and how it’s going to affect your future. Academically, I have gotten better with turning in my homework. I also take more time to do my homework, and make sure that it’s correct. AVID has helped me turn in my homework on time because Mr.Hansen stresses every day how important it is that we use our Google Keep to record all of our homework for each CORE class. I also make sure that my homework is correct because each teacher discusses the same thing with us; Doing your homework is optional, but it will prepare you for what you’re going to be tested on, and will make you...

...I worked as an AVID tutor/substitute teacher at a middle school and high school from 2010-2013. I helped students complete their homework in any class and also gave them tips for success in middle school, high school, and college to be successful. I also helped them create better study habits and note taking skills. Three tasks I enjoyed the most were showing them new and easier ways to solve equations, easier ways to stay organized, and being able to give them advice on how to figure out what career might be the best for them. I enjoyed these tasks because they not only helped the students, but they also allowed me to use the knowledge I had learned when I was in the AVID program which helped me become successful. To complete these tasks,...

...In 1980, as a direct response to a social problem that was manifesting in schools across the nation, Mary Catherine Swanson began AVID. She was of the belief that with enough support and determination, any student could become “college-ready.” Her dream was to change the notion many teachers held that children who bussed to schools from less advantaged areas could not succeed on par with other students (“Our”). As a result, these students were indeed only achieving as little as their teachers believed they would- a common phenomenon called expectancy effect (Sutherland, 1972). In 1992, AVID became an official nonprofit and has since been implemented in over 6,000 schools across the nation, from elementary to post-secondary institutions. Designed...

In the colleges, students are prepared to be independent and acts as a bridge between high school and employment. Therefore, before students get into the colleges, they are well prepared through various programmes. Advancement via individual determination (AVID) is one of the programmes used to prepare students to be eligible for the four years in college. This programme is an instructional programme based on research, where teachers are provided with training that enables them to help their students develop critical thinking skills: its major focus is on career and college readiness. This programme targets the middle students who have the desire to go to colleges, through a well-defined criterion used to select the students. However, this programme has failed to be a success and it is the interest of this research to find out the reasons as to why it is failing....

...CASE STUDY Presentation of Case 1 Company X is a motor vehicle dealer for the past fifteen years and Mr. A is one of its avid customers. The firm has no problem in Mr. A in terms of its paying practices because it pays its obligation in relatively good order. But in 1971 and 1972, Mr. A suffered a series of business reverses which forced him to suspend business operations and thereby incurred further losses. Because of this financial reverses, he was not able to implement his planned replacement buses. Aggravated by the high cost spare parts, income from operations literally nose-dived, thereby preventing from keeping up-to-date his installment accounts with Company X. By the end of 1972, on six vehicle accounts outstanding with Company X. Mr. A was overdue by about P100,000 consisting of around four monthly installments. In consideration of his past patronage, the company did not press collection as it would with other account. Instead, the company’s credit officer called Mr. A and discussed with him the financial problem. A 2-month moratorium was granted in hope that Mr. A could recover and thus resume payments. But in early 1973, when the accounts were seven-installment overdue or an aggregate amount of P150, 000, Company X decided to file a court action. The company chose to file a case for a sum of money since they know that they cannot recover the amount of outstanding by repossessing the vehicles which by that time were already much depreciated. Mr. A did not...

That is why in recent years high schools have started to encourage students to pursue a college education as well as begin to prepare the students for college. The current methods high schools are implementing offer general ways of preparing students for college that are often times ineffective and lack proper execution. Since college preparation is critical for high school students to increase their chance of successfully graduating from college, it is now more crucial than ever before to provide proper college preparation for tomorrow’s college students. However college preparation requires more than just helpful techniques for studying and teaching yourself. College preparation also requires a good amount of hard work and learning core subjects that form the foundation for which we build our...

...always been curious to what that entailed in terms of actual velocity. Sports and statistics interested me because i've been an avid sports fan the entirety of my life. Statistics are basically the legitimate version of fortune telling. I chose colors because the different gamma wavelengths, and what the human eye can perceive fascinates me. I chose distance, rate and time to further help me calculate traveling at static and varied paces with stops in between. I hoped to gain more general knowledge from completeing these projects which i did. The two most interesting things from these thought projects were from the colors, which was green being the most distinguishable color to the human eye and the actuality of the speed of light. I believe my mind is now honed and further able to tackle further problem solving and mathmatical problems. The thought projects I have chosen were Decimal to binary, Density, Speed of Light, Sports and statistics and colors. I chose decimal to binary because i've always been curious as to what the varied combinations of 0 and 1 could produce. I chose density as figuring out how and why materials contain different amounts of mass is intriguing. I chose the speed of light, because i've always been curious to what that entailed in terms of actual velocity. ...Liberman, an avid marathon runner and trainer decided to open his own business a one-stop shop selling running gears and equipments, after being retrenched from his office day job. He decided to venture into this business in particular because of his passion for running and being healthy and fit. There are no shops selling running gears and equipments in his town yet. Any avid or non avid runners who wishes to buy any running gears and equipments has to place their orders on online shops to pre-order their gears and it takes about 2 to 4 months tops for their order to arrive. They not only have to pay the price of the item they have just purchased but also the postage costs are borne by the customers. Being an avid runner himself, Liberman then opened up a shop selling running gears and equipments of various brands, known as Running-Man Shop. The selling prices of these running gears and equipments are set to be the same as the online shops which his customers usually visit. Liberman gloats that opening Running-Man Shop is better than having his customers making online purchases as they do not have to pay for postage costs and Running-Man Shop can cater to the market niche that has been ignored. His shop has become very popular among runners, and his one-stop shop selling running gears and equipments has been very busy since in first opens. Running-Man Shop has become the first one-stop shop famous for its good quality and various branded running gears and equipments. Running-Man...

...that came before them! Every one of them” (Barbash and Andrews, Washington Post). My results found that most people had extremely prominent views when it came to this. I have included two people from each age group to help conclude the views. Jordan F, thirteen-year-old Hispanic female who plays sports almost every single day of the week and is a semi-avid sports fan, says she really has no opinion on this topic but she knows her parents are annoyed whenever they show the players kneeling on television. She claims she has some idea as to why they are protesting and the players should be reprimanded in some way whether they are benched or fined. Aaron C, fifteen-year-old Caucasian male who, like Jordan, plays sports almost every day and who is also an avid San Francisco 49ers fan says although he does not agree with Colin Kaepernick’s actions, he will always be a fan of the team. He thinks that players should not be reprimanded for this type of protest because it is not a negative action—like domestic abuse, DUI, or homicide. Kortney D, eighteen-year-old Caucasian female who engages in the occasional sport activity, is an avid sport fan who believes that this whole ordeal is wrong—although she does not know why they are opposing. She believes that athletes should be penalized for doing such activities; she considers those who copy the professional league athletes are just trying to gain media attention—as if they do not really understand why they are objecting the anthem. Joey...
