Boogaloo, as described in the texts, is a mix between African-American style jazz and Latin music. This melding of cultures had appeared in the United States in the late 1960’s in a very intriguing combination. Today, when one thinks of Latin music, they typically think more about the catchy, high-pitched rhythms, like salsa. Boogaloo, however, has a more relaxing “blues” feeling and also incorporates English and Spanish within the lyrics. On the other spectrum, jazz has a more mellow and thought provoking atmosphere to it.
