The book The Ersatz Elevator is about the Baudelaire orphans and their uncle, Count Olaf, that is trying to take the kids and make them work for him and his friends. Mr. Poe, their parents close friend, does not believe that count olaf is try to take them away. Count Olaf has tried to take the orphans in all of the books and he was not successful. He tries to take the orphans by killing or taking away their caretakers. Every time this happened they have to take them to a different place. Every time this happened the orphans would tell their uncle that it was count olaf but he never believed them.
