The muse of Beale Street Over the years, Beale Street has evolved into a well-structured entertainment stop. Between the thrilling nightclubs, small tasty pubs, and the sweet love of music, Beale Street has provided Memphis with endless opportunities to have a great time. Beale Street gives the community of Memphis a hot label, according to Planet Ware Beale Street is Memphis’s second top tourist attraction. However, we must give credit to music and rock n roll, without the inspiration that rooted from music, Beale simply wouldn’t be Beale. Beale Streets’ music genre is a variety of types, however, mainly blues and rock n roll. Music plays a different role throughout Beale. For example, one might view music as the weekly band that plays at …show more content…
Silky’s is an Irish pub located on Beale Street. This pub is great for events and crowds of all kinds. Also, Silkys is home for great good and great entertainment, such as local piano players and singer groups. Fortunately, Silkys prices on food and drinks are reasonable to any customer. One of the most famous things about Silkys is not only its outstanding food and entertaining, but the goats that live there. Yes, goats, and on occasion the owners allow the goats the walk in the bar area, giving the customers a chuckle and something not to forget. For a rating of 4 out of 5 by Trip Advisor, some viewers briefly described that they had an awful time while other commented on how great the food and atmosphere was. A few reviews: “We had a terrific time during our stay. The band Almost Famous was incredible. The bar was so good, we went back for 2 nights” and “The atmosphere couldn't have been better. The guys on the pianos are excellent. Will play anything you request. They are not limited to any certain genre. Absolutely awesome!! The outside patio was also great. Great for large groups. By far my favorite place on Beale Street for the entertainment factor

Advertising

...INTRODUCTION Advertising or advertizing in business is a form of marketing communication used to encourage, persuade, or manipulate an audience (viewers, readers or listeners; sometimes a specific group) to take or continue to take some action. Most commonly, the desired result is to drive consumer behaviour with respect to a commercial offering, although political and ideological advertising is also common. ...Research on Educational Impact of Games A Literature Review Institute for Games for Learning NYU Education/Assessment Group CUNY Education/Assessment Group White Paper # 02/2009 Version 0.1 June 25, 2009 Florrie Ng Helen Zeng Jan L. Plass Gaming Literature Coding In response to researchers’ calls for more systematic investigations of the use of games for learning, we conducted an extensive literature review on this topic. By surveying prior research, we examined the themes that emerged, the methodology employed, and the findings yielded, the ultimate goal being to identify knowledge gaps in the literature. To this end, we reviewed the relevant research conducted in the last 15 years by following the procedures outlined below. (a) Using the widely used social science database PsycINFO, we searched for articles which focused on both games and learning. The keywords chosen were “gam*” and either “learn*”, “teach*”, or “educat*” (the wildcard * can stand for any of a defined subset of all possible characters; for example “gam*” includes “game,” “games,” “gaming,” etc.). This generated about 4000 peer-reviewed articles from the earliest date (i.e., before 1960) to the end of 2008. (b) Given that studies conducted a decade ago tended to be less rigorous methodologically or yield obsolete results, we decided to focus our attention on more recent research. Once we narrowed down the time period to the years of 1995 to 2008, about 2400 peer-reviewed articles were left in the...

...Language in Society 21, 1-26. Printed in the United States of America Social network and social class: Toward an integrated sociolinguistic model1 LESLEY MILROY AND JAMES MILROY Departments of Speech (L.M.) and English Language (J.M.) University of Newcastle upon Tyne Queen Victoria Road at St. Thomas' Street Newcastle upon TyneNEi 7RU, United Kingdom ABSTRACT In sociolinguistics, approaches that use the variables of socioeconomic class and social network have often been thought to be irreconcilable. In this article, we explore the connection between these variables and suggest the outlines of a model that can integrate them in a coherent way. This depends on linking a consensus-based microlevel of network with a conflict-based macrolevel of social class. We suggest interpretations of certain sociolinguistic findings, citing detailed evidence from research in Northern Ireland and Philadelphia, which emphasize the need for acknowledging the importance of looseknit network ties in facilitating linguistic innovations. We then propose that the link between network and class can be made via the notion of weak network ties using the process-based model of the macrolevel suggested by Thomas Hejrup's theory of life-modes. (Sociolinguistics, sociology, quantitative social dialectology, anthropological linguistics) One of the most important contributions of Labov's quantitative paradigm has been to allow us to examine systematically and accountably the relationship between language...
