...Charqweshia Tucker Teamwork is becoming more common in the workplace, more and more companies are utilizing the concepts of teamwork or group dynamics. The two words are similar with different meanings, teamwork can be referred as "a group of people working together in a group" and group dynamics can be referred as "individual roles and interactions". There are more roles that are played in the workplace outside of a leadership role. The roles can be formal or informal and can be played by one or more members. During my research I found six common roles that are played in the workplace, which include: the agenda setter, the cheerleader, the critic, the gatekeeper, the joker and the leader. The Agenda Setter The Agenda Setter is "who regularly puts new ideas and issues on the table" (pg. 136). This role is important within a group because this role is responsible for providing an agenda and supporting materials ahead of time. By doing so it will help maximize the time that the group has to ensure that everything is covered in a timely manner. This role can be done by The Leader but it will make things run smoother if an Agenda Setter is assigned. According to the textbook, The Agenda Setter is very important and most meetings cannot survive without one (pg. 137). The Cheerleader The Cheerleader is "who encourages any sign of progress"(pg. 136). This role can be played by one or more people at a time. "An effective Cheerleader will point out the common ground...

Pg.331 #1 The speaker is someone giving a girl instructions on what she needs to know and how she should act now that she is becoming a woman. I think the speaker cares for the girl and wishes to help the girl develop into a respectable woman, but feels that she must display authority in order to get the girl to listen. The speaker attempts to teach the girl by repeating details such as how to "set a table" in five different circumstances. Pg. 366 #2 In Bursons photography she purposely has the backdrop black so that the models faces can stand out. The hair of the models used fades into the backround, so you cant really tell if the person is male or female. I think that’s what she was striving for, one should not judge based on sexual orientation. In one picture, we only see half of the models face. She focuses on flaws, and imperfections, and the models gender is...

...instigator which can sometimes be similar to the Joker but tends to create problems in the good setting just to get a rise out of people. The Critic or backseat driver is always the first one to point out the issues going on or to say his or her own negative opinion but never offers a good suggestion on how to fix the problem. There’s always the cheerleader or supporter that will just cheer about anything in general it might not even be good process being made but something is going on so the cheerleader is cheering. The outsider or rebel typically sits there alone not joining in, doesn’t try to fit in to the group or conversation. The leader or Alpha is the one the final decision has to be approved by. They might not always be the spear head of the situation but before anything gets decide they need to give their approval for it to happen. Those are only six of the roles you can find yourself in, sometimes it’s based on your personality other times you’re just put in that role and just forced to make it happen. There sometimes can be more than one person in that role such as the joker or cheerleader they typically even find themselves becoming closer since they have that in common. However you can have more than one leader and usually if there is more than one critic they will just start attacking each other and brining even more of a conflict in the group. Just the same with trying to have more than one leader, there can always be a vice president but trying to have two presidents...

...students as one of the most respectable sports, but also a class placer for the players. The stereotypical high school jock is among the most popular of the student body. So, while it is not only a sport, it is an essential part to today’s high school life. However, the sport has been recently scrutinized more heavily due to dangers that can ensue on the field. The current debate is whether or not schools should offer the sport as a possibility for young adults. As I've stated, football is one of the first things that comes to an American’s mind when high school is mentioned. It’s associated so highly with the institution that expelling it from the daily life of teenagers seems almost unrealistic. Since it became popular, football and its cheerleaders has been a marker for social rankings among high schoolers. The tradition of football also ranks schools among...

...Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, "Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." Ray Williams wrote the article “Anti-Intellectualism and the ‘Dumbing Down’ of America,” Williams argues that people are anti-intellectuals who dismiss the art of science, and humanities and replaced by entertainment, ignorance, and gullibility. These individuals believe they know and understand everything when in reality, all we are aware of happens to be replaced by ignorance. American culture is easily entertained and almost always uninformed however society doesn’t stop and questions what going on. American people accept media foolery such as what’s trending and the latest gossip without hesitation because...

... The Power of Literacy He asked me, “Susan can you please read the next two paragraphs?” My nightmare came alive! I swallowed hard saliva thick in my mouth. When I was a little girl, I used to dream about becoming a great dancer. I remember I used to ask my mother to take me to all the dancing contests in town because that was what I loved to do. I loved to dance. I never gave much thought or worry about reading a book. For me, that was absolutely boring. I didn’t care about improving my poor literacy skills. I believed, that a dancer did not need to have good writing or reading skills. At that moment, I was only concern about how I was going become a better dancer. Time went by, as expected, and my dream of being a dancer changed. When I started high school I discovered my passion for numbers and problem solving. The world of mathematics became my new passion. Again, I continued thinking that I didn’t need to have perfect writing and reading skills, until that day. In 10th grade, I was asked by the professor to read two paragraphs in class. As I started reading, I was so nervous that I misread leaders as cheerleaders. All my classmates started laughing at me, including the professor. I could feel my cheeks turning bright red, and my eyes tearing. I just wanted to run out of that place and never come back. That was one of the most embarrassing moments in my life. I still can’t imagine how I confused...

...my school. She was pretty, outgoing, and every boy at school had a crush on her. She was everything I thought I wanted to be. We were both cheerleaders and got to know one another at cheer camp that summer. We hit it off right away and started spending every day together. There where a couple of other girls in our clique that we hung out with, too. In order to be friends with these girls, I had to break up with my boyfriend who was my first love. They told me that no one was allowed to have a boyfriend, but we could hook up with anyone and everyone. I should have backed away at this point in the relationship, but I was determined I was going to be friends with them and become popular. At the beginning of our friendship, nothing serious happened. We just hung out like normal teenagers do. About mid-way through my freshman year, things started becoming risky and more serious. Stefanie and the two other girls in our clique, Sarah and Lydia, started doing things that I only thought girls did in movies. They began drinking, using drugs, and experimenting with sex. Every day was a party to them. I had made a promise to myself several years earlier that I would not drink alcohol until I was at least out of high school, and that I would never experiment with drugs. I wanted to be a virgin until I was married. My promises were becoming harder and harder to keep while I was hanging out with the popular girls. I began to drink a little, but sex and drugs were out of the question...
