Is being bored really that bad? I think that being bored is bad, but it can also be good. Here are a few good reasons why it's good, but also bad.

First, boredom is good because you get sleep. Humans need around 8-10 hours of sleep everyday and if you don’t get that many hours you can nap. Sometimes it's also good to be bored so you can think about what happened good that day.

Next, boredom is also good because it helps people not abuse drugs and alcohol. This can saves people's lives. 50,000 people died this year from being under the influence of drugs and alcohol. This fact shows that if you are bored, you won't abuse drugs and alcohol, which can save your life.

It's true that boredom can be bad, and here is a reason

...Color Psychology Paper Research Question: How does color affect one’s mood? Review of Literature: Colors may just seem simple and unimportant, but they affect our daily lives more than we may know. If someone is feeling angry, it could just be because they’re angry, or it could be perhaps that they are surrounded by or looking at the color red. That’s right! People’s moods can change just because they are looking at different colors! There are many theories on how just a simple color can change one’s whole mood. According to Johnson (2007), color does affect mood by producing certain chemicals and stimulating different feelings such as hunger. For example, blue can make one feel calm because it releases calming chemicals, and red can make one hungry because it is an appetite stimulant. Yellow can make one feel irritated, and it is a fact that people lose their temper most in yellow rooms. However, pink is tranquilizing and can make one feel weak. In conclusion, Johnson says that depending on the color, one’s body can do things (like producing chemicals) that cause a certain emotional reaction (mad, sad, etc.). Another idea, by Smith (2007), is that the effect color produces is based on what one’s body does in response. For example, yellow is mentally stimulating, and activates memory, whereas red increases confidence. Also, brown can make a person feel orderly and stable, while a dark blue can make one feel sad. Therefore, Smith says that different colors do in fact change...

The Research of Why Students Are Quiet

...The Research of Why Students are Quiet             In the article, Mary M. Reda proposed a question that asked why herself and the audience though that students were quiet in class. Through her observation of students, studies, and talking among her colleagues she came across many details that answered her critical question. From the start, Reda knew that the students who were unspoken in class had a background involved with racism, sexism, and classism but she didn’t know how big of a role it played until she conducted her study. When her study ended she produced three explanations for the student’s silence in class: fear of being judged, high stakes situation for class participation, and their own personal comfort levels.             Reda begins by informing us of what the characteristics are of the quiet students are that she has taught through her many years as an instructor. Her colleagues collectively stated that the quiet students are hostile and less intelligent than the other individuals that speak in class. Reda explained her opinion that she agreed some students are shy and bored but also that students face other factors such as racism, classism, and sexism. Her personal mission was to find out what caused students to speak or not speak in the classroom setting. Reda began her yearlong study by assigning a paper to her first year composition class that asked for their outlook of what creates a quite student and conducted interviews of five “quiet” students in her...

Great Essay Presentation

...Tips for a Great College Essay Why write an essay? The purpose of the essay is to convince admission officers whom you’ve never met, in less than ten minutes, that you would be a good match for their colleges. At the most basic level, it allows admission officers to evaluate your communication and writing skills. In addition, the essay allows admission officers to discover more about you as a person – a side of you not shown by statistics like grades and SATs. The essay gives information about your history, attitudes, interests and creativity; it gives a sense of your values and goals. What admission officers are doing is creating a community…looking to see how you would fit in that community, what would you bring to that community and what sets you apart. How the essay is evaluated • • • Is your writing mechanically sound? Is your writing style comfortable? Can you write a good sentence? Can you write a good paragraph? Do you address the question asked? Can you form a thesis? Can you discuss a theme? Is your argument logical? Can you get in and out of the essay with some finesse? Do you write with style, nuance and creativity? Do you write with a distinctive voice? Choosing a topic Choose the essay topic that appeals to you most. The topic is less important than your delivery Remember: there is no right or wrong answer. The college just wants to know who you are and how your mind works. Facts About Obisety

...population. To help end an epidemic battle with obesity we need to find out its leading factors. So many factors lead to obesity it can be a complex combination of lifestyle choices. Many people now a days aren't physically active spending hours in front of their television or computer spending most of the day doing work, school work, or leisure actives. From my own experience I spend about 2 or more hours in front of the television or computer. People who are inactive gain weight due to the fact that they do not burn the calories that they take in from eating and drink. Inactive lifestyle raises other health risk such as heart attack, diabetes, high blood pressure, colon cancer, and many other health problems. “Other reasons for not being active include: relying on cars instead of walking, fewer physical demands at work or at home because of modern technology and conveniences, and lack of physical education classes in schools(NIH: National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute). “Our environment doesn't support healthy lifestyle habits; in fact, it encourages obesity” (NIH: National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute). Most people don’t have time for physical actives with working long hours and or attending school in their free time. Poor neighborhoods have no parks or walking areas giving those in that location have nowhere to go exercise. Most of the gyms in neighborhoods are too costly, and people cannot afford them, which then turns them to not work out. Many live in an...

Learning and Teaching

...more and can recall better when they have hand on experience or how Jensen (2005), called “hand on, mind on learning, ” he continues saying that children don't learn by reading instead they learn by doing things by themselves. For that reason is why I always implement hand on experience in my students learning. For example, if I am teaching a lesson on “trucks” I will provide all the materials needed it so my students can manipulate and build their own trucks using their imagination. Some of the materials I will provide to them are play dough, construction paper shapes, and some manipulative toys that they can use to build their trucks. I also try to maintain my students engage the more I can. “Knowledge depends on engagement. Engagement is inseparable from empowerment. Empowerment means the opportunity to contribute. Learning is an act of participation. We are all lifelong learners” (Jay Cross and the Institute for Research on Learning, Informal Learning 2007). When I am teaching I use different method to engage my children. For example, I use music in the classroom because I know they love music. I use music at Circle Time, Physical Development and Large group activities. Also, when it's time for transitions throughout the day. As cited on Merrell (2004), “The...
