Toys where out dated and there was lack of organization. KB Toys’ KB Toys started out as a candy wholesaler in 1922 (KB Toys, nd).Toys was not what the Kaufman Brothers, KB, where looking for however when a debt could not be paid by a client Kaufman Brothers inherited a wholesale toy company during the 1940s (KB Toys, nd). KB Toys changed their name a few times through out the company’s life span. Kay-Bee Toy & Hobby Stores was the first name to take life and sale items at discount prices. By 1977 the store had changed focus to just toys and it was such a big success the name was changed to Kay-Bee Toy and Hobby Shops, Inc. (KB Toys, nd). In 1981 the company is purchased by Melville Corporation and is a division known as Kay-Bee Toy Stores (KB Toys, nd). By 1996 the chains of stores are sold to Consolidated Stores Corporation (KB Toys, nd). Once Consolidated bought Kay-Bee the image of the company needed to be enhanced, thus the KB logo was created (KB Toys, nd). KB toys had a great idea with providing toys at a discounted price. This idea kept KB Toys in business for 86 years (The Washington Times, December 12, 2008). Wal-Mart also had the same idea to provide toys for a discount price, because of Wal-Marts buying power KB Toys was not able to compete and decided to close the doors in 2008 (The...

...As we arrived at Lucas Oil Stadium I could hear all of the fans shouting “Let's go hawks, let’s go hawks, let’s go hawks.” It was bonkers how many fans there were, which caused a big commotion since you could barely budge your way by anybody. But there was no time to look around I didn't want to get misplaced in this crowd. In order to get to the stadium we had to go through a hotel. While we were in the hotel I could definitely tell some people had had a little too much fun, one guy we saw was passed out on a couch in the lobby, people were messing with his hat but he didn't even budge, sadly he was an Iowa fan. Also when we were traveling through the hotel we heard one of the staff refer to having “junk” in the lobby, this made me laugh because he had his mad face on. I knew that this was going to be an entertaining night with the awesome stadium, crazy fans, and the fun surroundings....

...going to stop until the end.” No one raised their hands so I continued reading. All of a sudden there was a huge rumbling in the ground and Iggy was getting raised higher and higher up towards the surface. She hit the surface and was immediately pounded by big shards of sleet and hail. It wasn’t long before she was separated from all the other rocks and was turned into sediment yet again. After more cementing and compacting Iggy along with all the other sediment turned into another sedimentary rock. But this time was different Iggy was going farther and farther down into earth’s crust when she fell into a big body of magma. She was instantly melted and turned into molten rock. The volcano above started rumbling and Iggy was sent very fast towards earth’s surface. She flew out the mouth of the volcano and landed in a nearby field. There she cooled into a special Igneous rock called Obsidian. There she laid for a long time until one day a small boy picked her up and threw her into a small fault. She tumbled down the small crack. Rocks from above also fell on top of her and provided heat and pressure. This caused her to form into a Metamorphic rock. All of a sudden magma bursts from out of nowhere and propels Iggy and a lot of other rocks towards earth’s surface. She came out of the ground and glided through the air and landed with a splat on a small lakeside shore. There she spent the rest of her life and lived happily ever after. “How did you guys like that story?” I asked...

...SOGO: A FRESHMAN'S ARCHITECTURAL CRITIQUE 03/11/2014 0 COMMENTS The hotel industry is one growing business in the Philippines, among others. It was made, primarily, to provide accommodations, shelter, food and other services to tourists and travellers. Eventually, hotels have adapted to the progression of society, adding new features and functions to attract more customers, yet, in recent times, hotels have started to become different than usual, changing its function into something very sensitive. Hotel Sogo serves as an example. Hotel Sogo is a four-star hotel that was established in 1992. Today, it has a total of 32 branches nationwide, but the critique will focus on the North Edsa branch. The Hotel Sogo - North EDSA Branch is located behind Trinoma Mall. Standing beside many commercial establishments an MRT Station, and a major road, the Red-colored building catches the attention of many. Its facade is boxy, simple and plain. It was colored mainly in red, with accents of yellow, probably to attract more attention. Assuming that a viewer is standing a few meters from its facade, having the chance to view the whole building will be difficult because of many telephone and electric wires and the MRT tracks obstructing the view from that point. At the left of the facade is a driveway that leads to the basement parking. The entrance also served as the exit way, which makes it difficult for cars going down to go up if another car is moving out. The parking had...

...spread throughout the small communities. Most of the housings are apartment complexes or townhouses with a few roadside independent housing. These houses are multifamily dwellings, mostly with brick and wood exteriors, the traditional housing style. The lawns and surroundings are well groomed without any disrepair. They have roadside parking in front of the apartments, and they seem to be very crammed in one specific apartment complex (Avery apartments). There seem to be vacant apartments as evidenced by the “now leasing” board displayed, but there aren’t any houses on sale. There aren’t any open drainage ditches or gutters. There are appropriate streetlights and sidewalks for safety. Open Spaces .5 There is a lot of public open space in the community in the form of little parks for the community children to play on slides, there are benches scattered in the communities for perhaps people to sit outside in good weather while the kids play. The complete neighborhood is lighted. The open spaces seem to be well maintained without...

...I grabbed my helmet from the shelf. The sun had just risen, glowing through the trees like a flashlight on the damp grass. The car was packed to the top with show clothes, makeup, food, and drinks. We rolled into the parking lot. I slowly opened the door and rose out of the car, the the cool, morning air hitting me like a wave from the ocean. Already horses were being worked in the arenas on longlines. trotting around in circles to warm up their legs, probably getting dizzy. I approach the silver metal trailer, Goldie lifts her head up from her breakfast and looks at me, as if saying, “How are you this early morning?” Goldie tossed her head before returning to her hay. She had the biggest personality ever put inside a horse, and all the horses in the world, no matter how expensive, could never measure up to her. I walk up to her and give her a hug, before grabbing a brush and starting to rub her coat until all the dirt was gone. Next I got her bridle and slipped it over her ears. She didn't even hesitate when I asked to slip the bit in her mouth....

...Driving Forces | Restraining Forces | 1. Time Period Restriction | Time commitment | 2. Parking Maximum | Environment | Driving Forces * Time Period Restriction Statistically, 80% of the students, staff and lecturers mostly prefer to use their own personal transportation rather than public transportation provided from UCSI University because of the luxury in terms of convenient driving their own car, time consume to reach on time rather than drive further from UCSI (example like parking at Giant and walk to UCSI which takes 10-15 minutes), short distance to walk from car park to classes or office and safety guaranteed from stolen car because a lot of cases in Malaysia where people steal cars without any traces. Although, the capacity of parking spaces are insufficient in UCSI University because of the population of the students, staff and lecturers are getting higher and almost everyone is driving to UCSI and park their car even though it cost them RM4 daily. A good strategic for UCSI Management use to solve this problem is to implement driving forces is the time period restriction. Due to insufficient car park spaces, management could make a strategic plan of time usage for selective parking spaces on the ground floor (from the entrance of UCSI car park and heading to the exit UCSI car park instead of the hilltop). UCSI University has their own IIS system where all information of each students, staff and lecturers will be recorded when they registered themselves...

...found that just a bit of laughter can make the situation one hundred times better. When I lived in Alaska, my family and I faced some of the harshest winters on record. Moving from Maryland where it was odd if we even accumulated a foot of snow during the winter months, we were in for a big change. We moved to Anchorage Alaska in January, right in the middle of the winter. I had never seen so much snow in my life. Because of so much snow accumulation, businesses would constantly have to use giant snowplows to remove all of the snow from the parking lots. After the plows had scraped all the snow off the top of the surface, it was not out of the ordinary for there to be a solid sheet of ice covering the parking lots. Being a new resident of the state, I underestimated at how much ice would actually be throughout the parking lot. When the parking lots were full of ice I always thought that it was the most fun thing in the world to slide across the ice on my feet. I found this fun and all, until one day it took a turn for the worst. We were at the local Wal-Mart and we had just got dumped on with four feet of snow. The snowplows were right in the middle of clearing out the parking lot so they were leaving paths of solid ice, perfect for sliding on. My mom never fancied me sliding across the ice. She would always say...

...Question 1 Due to a shortage of space for surface parking lots, the University is considering the development of a new policy for the re-allocation of all existing parking permits. Briefly describe two reasonable policies that might be considered, the strengths and weaknesses of each, and what data and information you would attempt to obtain as a basis for the evaluation of the various alternatives. Answer: 1. Alternation of vehicles: in Brazil is a practice commonly used, which consists of the relay boards that can drive around the city in this case parking on predetermined days. For example, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday can only park the car with plates ending with numbers between 0 and 5, and on Tuesday and Thursday only plates ending with numbers between 6 and 9. This encourages users to use alternative form of transport such as bus, bicycle, rideshare. • Strengths: - Decreased the cars flow in the parking lot and the traffic of the city. - The current space is sufficient to accommodate the cars in the parking lot of UofR. - Encourages people to use alternative transportation and harm the environment less. • Weaknesses: - Restricts mobility of people because there are places in town that take a long time to take a bus or no bus routes nearby. - Reduces the comfort and practicality - In days of snowfall the locomotion becomes difficult if you have to take a bus. 2. Increasing the rate of parking and offer discounts according to the number of people inside...
