... Begin with the fact that the bid had been rigged. I as the owner of the company would not have had like to this kind of business being concluded underneath my nose. Yes, I may benefit but my loss after being investigated is much greater. With this being said, what was done is illegal in Russia. Seeing that this kind of practice is unethical, I would simply not accept the business regardless of being blacklisted from the country. The cost of being investigated by the FAS and charged with cartel and bid rigging is far worse than simply accepting the business, paying the 3%, and employing the purchasing manager. The charges that could follow from accepting such business could potentially follow with imprisonment, fines up to $500,000, blacklist, and compensation to the other companies involved in the bid. The compensation can be request to be paid for by the interest of the capital until the full capital amount is reached. All of this more than likely will account for 20% of my gross profit income and then some more. (Law & Practice, 2015) Money coming in and out is fixable but a rebuild the reputation of a company could take years and money. Following up with all of this, I personally would fly over to Russia to oversee exactly what else in the operation of my company. Personally fire the purchasing the manager and rehire the next manager personally. I feel that these actions will help avoid any further complication to come out of the blue. As well as begin searching for...

...For my cold war research project, I chose the Hollywood blacklist as my topic. The Hollywood blacklist was the time period where writers, actors, directors and anyone who was in the screen entertainment business was denied employment due to the belief they were a part of the communist party. It all started when the HUAC called out for seventy-nine people who they were hinting pro-communism into their movies. Although never proven true, those seventy-nine convicted when they refused to share their political parties. Nineteen of the seventy-nine refused to cooperate, while others dropped out from many other excuses. That left the ten. Those convicted ten, were known as the Hollywood ten (technically eleven) “Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the communist party?” Is what was asked of by the accused ten men during the trials that followed after by the house of un-American activities (HUAC). It was proven at some point that each person was a member of the communist party. the ten refused to answer any questions regarding their political belief. Many members of the communist party were only members briefly before switching back. It is said that many people joined the communist party on the act that the believed it had more benefits at the time than capitalism....

...Taking on McCarthyism: Hollywood’s Response to the Blacklist Instructors name Date Taking on McCarthyism: Hollywood’s Response to the Blacklist Following the communist scare of the 1950s the House of un-American Activities (HUAC) was established and it made a blacklist of movie actors, screen writers and directors who they considered as allied to the communists party. The most prominent of these was the ‘Hollywood ten’ who refused cooperation. This paper will critically examine the black list and the response of Hollywood to the list and to Senator McCarthy who was a significant figure in the movement. This paper will focus on the response of artists who made films that addressed this imposition, scrutiny, and show that Hollywood did not stand for this opposition. McCarthyism is an act of making ungrounded accusations that touch on issues of treason and disloyalty a term that was derived from the name of Senator Joseph McCarthy during the 1950s when there was a communism scare. He chaired several committees that were involved in the accusations against different people who were suspected of being communists. The term was derived from his obsession with communists although he had nothing to do with the Hollywood arrests (Humphries, 3). During this period, movie directors and screenwriters used to get subpoenaed to attend hearings where they would be required to defend their position and involvement in the American communist party. Many of these directors lost their...

The United Nations (UN) was the first international organization to undertake significant actions to fight against money laundering through adopting several conventions and resolutions. Following UN action, the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF) was formed by G-7 countries in 1989 as the first intergovernmental body which has recommended forty recommendations to combat money laundering in 1990. In October 2001, the FATF expanded its mandate to deal with the funding of terrorist acts and terrorist organization, and it took the important step of creating the Eight (later expanded to Nine) Special Recommendations on...

...Journal Assignment 09: Salt of the Earth Word Count: 301 1. While some may view this film as boring due to the topic, I certainly enjoyed watching it because of how well-made and inspirational it was. It was so moving to think that some of these people with no acting experience could create such deep emotions. There wasn’t much I didn’t appreciate about the film; however, I'm not very happy that our government allowed these events leading up to the movie creation to occur, but it made way for the film. This film has had a profound effect on many people, allowing them to see how power in the wrong hands can do more harm than good. 2. One storytelling device that particularly caught my eye throughout the film was the use of hard-focus which gave the movie a realistic picture quality. Additionally, the use of a lady narrator creates real innovativeness due to her being both a protagonist and a narrator. 3a. This film was created during the highpoint of McCarthyism in the 1950s and was made completely by a professional cast and blacklisted crew. The film was banned in the United States by congress until late in the 1960s. 3b. Now that I am aware of the context of the film and the fact that it was banned until the 60s, it makes me wonder about the blacklisted crew. I haven’t heard of any movies banned with a blacklisted cast, so I find that interesting. However, this doesn’t change my impression on the film as a whole. 4. There were a couple themes that I got from...

...Maggie Brown His 132-02E April 4, 2015 McCarthyism Throughout the 1940s and 1950s America was overwhelmed with concerns about the threat of communism growing in Eastern Europe and China. Capitalizing on those concerns, a young Senator named Joseph McCarthy made a public accusation that more than two hundred “card-carrying” communists had infiltrated the United States government. Though eventually his accusations were proven to be untrue, and he was censured by the Senate for unbecoming conduct, his zealous campaigning ushered in one of the most repressive times in 20th-century American politics. Almost at once, the aura of invulnerability that had surrounded McCarthy for nearly five years began to disappear. First, the Army undermined the senator’s credibility by showing evidence that he had tried to win preferential treatment for his aides when they were drafted. While the House Un-American Activities Committee had been formed in 1938 as an anti-Communist organ, McCarthy’s accusations heightened the political tensions of the times. Known as McCarthyism, the paranoid hunt for infiltrators was notoriously difficult on writers and entertainers, many of whom were labeled communist sympathizers and were unable to continue working. Some had their passports taken away, while others were jailed for refusing to give the names of other communists. The trials, which were well publicized, could often destroy a career with a single unsubstantiated accusation. Among those well-known artists...

...“I confirm that this assignment represents my own work and where quotations and/or ideas have been utilized from other sources these have been acknowledges and referenced accordingly.” Assignment I Question 1 Alliance Bank (Bahamas Ltd) is an established offshore bank with an international presence, through a network of subsidiaries, branches and representative offices in over 15 locations. The referenced branch is located in jurisdiction of The Bahamas. A full range of banking and related financial products and services are offered to clients including but not limited to, bank accounts, wire transfers, cash deposits, and credit cards. Money laundering can be defined as the process of disguising or concealing illicit funds to make them appear legitimate. This is achieved by the launders disguising their identity and or distancing themselves from the illicit activity that would have produced his property. It is imperative then that MLROs fully appreciate the vulnerabilities of their Bank’s particular products and services in order to be able to implement systems to prevent exploitation, and be able to properly evaluate unusual and potentially suspicious activity. The core characteristics and vulnerability of the products and services previously mentioned, from the perspective of anti-money laundering are as follows: Bank Accounts: Bank accounts are the entry point into the financial system. Once this is achieved the launderer has access to a wider network of vehicles...

...what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” America, paranoid of the “imminent” Communist overthrow, has lived in constant fear. The culprit of the Red Scare, Joseph McCarthy, was actually the senator of Wisconsin. On February 9, 1950, McCarthy delivered his Wheeling speech, announcing he knew the identities of 205 undercover Communist Party members working for the United States government. His speech swayed an American populace that was already keenly aware of a Communist China and a Stalin-controlled Eastern Europe. McCarthy was thrust into the spotlight, setting fire to the political landscape, and pushing America to the edge. McCarthy, now in a position of influence, called for the phenomenon known as the Blacklist Years that stifled American freedoms. The Red Scare was a time of uncertainty and distrust. Neighbor turned on neighbor, friend against friend, all afraid the person beside them was a Communist revolutionary. Blacklisting, in this case, is suppressing people,...

...“The Blacklist” In season full of mediocre (or worse) new shows, NBC's The Blacklist has been a nice surprise. When I saw the pilot, I thought it had no business being as rock-solid as it was, but I wrote off the show's long-term prospects because I didn't think James Spader was enough to carry the show on a weekly basis, and the ongoing story about Red and Elizabeth seemed pretty obvious. However, after catching up on the series this past weekend and watching Monday's "General Ludd," I realized that I was only partially correct. Spader is mostly up to the challenge as The Blacklist's centerpiece, and the ongoing story is pretty obvious, but the show has done quite a bit of legwork to keep it compelling in the first eight weeks. Although it's likely that the plum post-Voice time period gives The Blacklist most of its ratings juice, I'm no longer shocked that it's the season's biggest hit. Here's why. 1. A good balance of procedural stories and ongoing mysteries I've had a few discussions with friends lately about what it means to be a broadcast drama in 2013. One of the takeaways has been that, more often than not, when people think of a broadcast drama, they tend to focus on shows that are almost exclusively procedural, relegating the obviously "great" examples like The Good Wife or Scandal to a small group of outliers that are more often compared to "great" cable shows. And while I love the kind of intense serialized stories those series can tell, shows like The Blacklist prove...

...PrivExec to maintain their privacy. 3 System Design Since the application must be allowed or disallowed to execute based on the whitelist or the blacklist hence it is absolutely crucial that the whitelisting and blacklisting must be performed before the process is created but after it is called for private execution. This ensures that the process isn't created if it isn't given permission. When the command is run in terminal to send a process for private execution then the name of the process is first sent to a whitelisting/blacklist process. Here the process name is first checked against a whitelist database. If a match is found then the process is then allowed to be created by using the fork process. However if the process is not available in the database then the private execution command is directly terminated and control is returned back to the terminal. If the whitelist database is empty then the process name is checked against the blacklist database. If the process name is absent then the process is created else private execution command is terminated immediately. 4 Implementation For granting permissions to the application we always consult either the whitelist or the blacklist instead of making use of both simultaneously as the two may conflict with each other. Thus we have given the whitelist precedence over the blacklist. Whitelisting would prove to be more effective as the user would only require to know which applications should be allowed to execute in private...

Accordingly, social rights fans embraced a double system of immediate action consolidated with peaceful protection, using demonstrations of common insubordination. Such actions served to impel emergency circumstances between social equality defenders and legislative powers. These authorities at the government, state, and nearby levels "typically needed to react with a quick action to end the emergency situations. What's more, the conclusions were progressively considered as useful to the dissenters and their reason. ...producers, state department officials, etc. The witnesses were to attend the court and testify in hearings (ABC-CLIO, McCarthy hearings). The committee used the procedure of forcing people to give names of others or as they called “naming names” (Sonia Benson). The witnesses usually refused to name people by invoking the Fifth Amendment, stating that a person cannot be forced to testify against him or herself. (ABC-CLIO, blacklists). On the other hand, to prevent terrorist acts, the act enhanced surveillance procedures. (Gale) The act strengthened and expanded the power of the police and the government to spy on people without charge. The HUAC and the Patriot Act had a huge impact in the American society. The people who were investigated by the HUAC were blacklisted from employment and suffered loss of jobs, careers and also imprisonment. The biggest blacklist was the Hollywood Blacklist, where a group of actors, producers directors, who ended up without a job and jailed (ABC-CLIO, House Of Un-American Activities Committee). Only a small number of people in the blacklist managed to “recover” their jobs (Sonia Benson). The American society was in fear and developed trust problems. The Patriot act restricted people’s freedoms and abused the First and Fourth amendment (Benson). People obtained less privacy, especially electronically. The act basically restricted people’s civil rights to protect their lives. The acts possessed a few differences, but they were established with one significant...
