Rhetorical Elements All writing has a purpose, whether you’re writing a fictional novel or an auto-biography, everything has a motive. Purpose in writing is very significant because without it, the reader wouldn’t know what the point of your writing is about. Purpose is what turns your writings from pointless to meaningful. The audience are the people reading what you’re writing, to be more specific; the target audience are the type of people (mostly age group) that your writing attracts. Its always important to be consistent with your writing and please your audience because they’re the people that read your work. Stance is the position you’re in in your writings, if you’re writing an essay about how President Lincoln should’ve never abolished slavery, then your stance would be how you favor slavery. Stance plays a pivotal role in writing because it lets the audience know what your position is. Genre is type of classification your writing is under, if you’re writing a fictional novel on werewolves then the genre of your novel would be horror. This gives the reader a general idea of what your writing is about. Design is the blueprint of your writing, it’s the way your writing is written. It can be vague or full of details, you can start from the end of your story and work your way up to the beginning. Its what gives your story structure and formation. Without design all the other elements would be insignificant.
